I purchased this bookshelf for my aunt to use in her room at a nursing home. This is not fine furniture but looks nicer than the average shelf in-a-box. The style is nice.
The instructions were not well-written, but we were able to assemble it fairly easily. No missing parts. Some of the pre-drilled holes had been spray painted, which isn't bad in itself, but there was lumpy sawdust residue in some of the holes, covered by a light coat of paint, so we had to ream those out. It wasn't difficult, but caused some delay in assembly. Some areas of raw wood showed after assembly, at some holes, but I don't think these would be noticeable in the setting where this will be used. If so, we could cover them with a permanent marker.
The shelves are particleboard. If you remember the following four points, you'll probably have no problems with assembly:
Assemble with a helper. Easier with two people.
PLEASE SET UP THE SIDES WITH THE APPROPRIATE HOLES FACING INWARD, FOR THE EASE OF ADDING THE BRACES (INCLUDED) LATER.
Ream out all holes, gently, to ease alignment and assembly
As instructions state, do not overtighten until all parts are in place.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Melissa Beautiful piece of furniture, however...
The furniture itself is of good quality, however, it took almost 2 weeks to arrive, and the packaging was falling apart when it arrived - thankfully, nothing was damaged inside the box. In addition, when I received it, the directions for assembly were not included, and when I called Home Depot, they had no way to reach the distributor to locate the directions - we had to figure it out on our own. Lastly, I realized that the actual brand is one that is sold on Amazon for $30-40 cheaper, and I would have received it in 2 days with my Amazon Prime!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Franci worst mistake buying
Its really too bad I had no choice as I wanted the bookcase in place for company coming the following weekend. I have been waiting for this review. 1. Box was dinged on the corner so hence the top shelf (most visible) has a ding in it. 2. two dowels from one shelf were missing so we had to improvise by cutting 2 pencils to the correct length. 3. The underside of the top shelf is scratched. If you would like pictures I can send them to you.

This is black, not dark wood. I had to take it back, which was no hassle at all.

The only complaint I have is that the factory put the finish over the pre-drilled holes on the top, which made it tough to get the screws in.

After purchasing an espresso bookcase at Lowes that turned out to be damaged once opened, we turned to Home Depot for a nicer replacement and were very pleased with this one. It was a gift so it had to be in good condition and we were not disappointed! The packaging was excellent...nothing arrived damaged and the finish was great for this low a price-point.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Verified Reviewer Very attractive book case for the money
I am very pleased with these bookcases. I bought two to cover a small wall in a study. They are attractive and sturdy. Some small flaws in the finish which we covered with a stain pen.

It is great. It was easy to assemble, it looks good and my collection of casserole dishes and platters look great on it.
