I purchased this item in double to use instead of a desk hutch to put on my built-in desk. I love them!!! They hold my library of books and decorative items. It's good quality, well finished. It's a no brainer to set it up. I am thrilled with the result!

These shelves actually exceeded our expectations. The quality is great and they came fully assembled, which we did not expect. Excellent value for the money. Just what we wanted.

Over the last 10 years I have bought 14 of these bookcases. I am posting this review in response to the reviews that say they are "flimsy" and need to be anchored to the wall. Not true. My bookcases are stacked two high and totally loaded with stuff. These bookcases have never fallen over or collapsed under the weight. I have other bookcases with adjustable shelves held in by plastic and even metal pegs that have collapsed while these have held up. I have only ordered the oak finish (which is a little warmer than some of my other light oak) so I can't comment on the other colors.

I purchased four of these bookcases. They are attractive, but the construction is flimsy. They are definitely NOT the sturdy, thick wood kinds of bookcases I was expecting. Stacking them was not as easy as expected, either. The wood was warped just slightly, so it made it really hard to line up the pegs on the bottom of one bookcase with the pre-drilled holes on the top of the other bookcase. Finally, I have these bookshelves on carpet...not a good idea! These bookshelves (stacked tall like I have done) should only be used on tile or hardwood floors. These shelves looked a little like the leaning tower of Pisa before I added stabilizers at the bottom.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by HannahHoch Solid bookcases, easy assembly
I am so happy with these new bookcases. I got two of the 27.5" wide ones and stacked them and they are very sturdy. The pieces are simple, the red color is deep and just dark enough that it doesn't look fire engine red. The whole look is quite harmonious with the rest of the room. I'm very pleased with the price, and the incredibly easy assembly. The instructions recommended that two people would be needed to stack them but I (a 5'2" woman with limited armspan) was able to manage lifting and fitting one on top of the other.
For a price similar to other big box stores, this bookcase definitely beats theirs for quality, by a lot. It's a really great value.

There are very few white folding bookcases on the market, so I'd have to recommend this if you're in the market. However, the price is high compared to bookcases of a similar style but different finishes from other companies. The finish on this is also rather thinly applied and not very smooth. The folding mechanisms were well constructed, however, and all of the hardware matches well for installation. One useless aspect is the white plugs that are supplied to cover the screws. The plugs were poorly finished and do not fit at all in the holes. I had to purchase ones of a different size, paint them myself, and then install them.

Nice shelves. They fold out easily so little assembly other then stacking shelves together and tapping on mantel top. It is wobbly with both shelves stacked so for safety I will be adding a wood block on the bottom and top shelf unit to brace to the wall at the stud. I think it is because the shelves are not that deep and if you bumped them the shelves could get knocked over unless braced. I do wish it had better side to side structural support.
