Can this flooring be put in the kitchen? And if so is it a good idea.

Asked by: Jaw
Yes it "could" be, but no recommended due to next to bathrooms, kitchens are the second most room to have moisture. There are other floor products that would be better utilized in the kitchen.

Hand Scraped Dark Hickory 12 mm Thick x 5 7/16 in. Wide x 48 in. Length Laminate Flooring (17.99 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 83.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good Completed flooring 2 days ago. We were a little skeptical at first after reading reviews from others sites. Almost decided to go with the pergo brand but to save a little money we chose this one. No major issues while installing. Got easier to put down the more we did. I love the look of the flooring. I wanted it to be dark and this is dark enough.

So I've read a lot of the reviews on here and I've installed almost 1,000 sq ft of this flooring so by this time I know it pretty well. Yes, you can work off of both sides of the laminate. We did this to allow the flooring to be continuous through rooms and closets without the need for transition moldings. The locking mechanism on the flooring is pretty good. I had multiple boards where the short ends connected but still had a small ridge where they met. This happened a few times and the easiest solution was to simply use a different board and move the problem board to another area of the flooring. In short, sometimes two of them, for whatever reason, will not interlock on the ends appropriately. But every time this happened, it was an instance where the board could still be used in a different location. This translated to very little waste! Unfortunately, the biggest drawback when installing, seemed to be that almost every board needed to be tapped on with a tapping block to have it seat appropriately. Once you tapped it with the tapping block, you would see the small crack that remained disappear (which is what you want!). After a while, it became part of a routine so it was less bad. This means that you absolutely need to have an installation kit when installing the floor. I purchased mine at the local discount tool retailer...HF. The finished product looks great and it seems to be very resilient to wear so far. It is a great flooring, at a great price, and if you take your time to be sure all connections are made well, it is a fantastic flooring!

I have installed numerous wood floors including nail down, and click-lock. This is the worst product I have ever seens for locking and staying in place. Some of the boards seem to be warped and they just will not stay together during the install. This is with using all the proper tapping blocks, spacers and pull bars. The worst thing is that Home Depot will not take back the opened box that you have to use to figure out its not going to work. It has a great look to it but steer far away unless you want to be bringing it back at a loss.

I purchased this product on sale from HD after recently purchasing a house that was fully carpeted with a wood sub floor. I installed over 1500sqft of this product to cover two large rooms, a hallway, and entry way and two closets. The flooring itself looks fantastic, getting the floor to lock together in some cases was difficult to do but as a DIY'er trying to install a floor by myself for the first time I found this job fairly easy to finish. In some spots you may find yourself with boards that don't perfectly lock due to small warping or defects in the tongue and groove but I was almost always able to sub in another board and use the problem board somewhere else. I purchased an extra 10% worth of flooring to compensate for cuts and waste and wound up with the perfect amount to finish my job. I'd recommend this product and also recommend that you purchase a good tapping block before install. Having a tapping block will get your through almost any problem areas you experience while trying to install this floor. Oh, and did I mention the floor itself looks great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value & durable We purchased the hand scraped farm house hickory flooring after doing a lot of research on reviews. We got it on sale for $1.59/Sqft online. It arrived on a couple pallets from a freight delivery service (we ordered about 1200sqft). Putting it together went smoothly for two first time DIY. The cutting and measuring was the most time consuming. We let the flooring acclimate indoors as per directions that come with the flooring and followed all directions closely. We also purchased T-molding, but could not find the exact matching shade, and found one close enough. We have two dogs that have dropped bones, ran around, and we even gently moved the refrigerator over the floor and had no scratches. It seems like since we put in the new flooring, it has attracted everything to drop on it, or attempt to scratch it. But still no scratches. We had a couple tiny chips during installation that I was able to camouflage with a furniture marker. I am picky about decorating and home design and was worried about some cheaper flooring that looks cheap or tacky. The floor looks just as good as more expensive flooring, and is extremely durable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the price I have more expensive stuff made by the same company in my front room. (It came with the house I bought, 8mm $2.79 sq ft.) I bought this 12mm for $1.50 sq ft. Nobody can tell the difference when they come in. It is a little quieter due to the thickness. Only a 30 year warranty instead of a 50 like the more expensive stuff. Try getting carpet for that price and actually wanting to keep it that long. My installer said that you can only install it one direction not both easily. He had to start on the wall of the bedroom and work across the hall to the other bedroom. He would have preferred to start in the hall and go both ways. He made it work.

We replaced our entire previous homes carpet and installed this product ourselves. I absolutely LOVED the finished result. We are big DIYers and found this product to be fairly simple. Some of the joints required a little more effort than others. The matte finish of the product is great not to see footprints. I have 2 teenage boys and 2 dogs....we wanted something that was durable, easy to clean, and beautiful. The hand scraped texture would hide scratches well if you were to have any. We are currently building a new home and this is the product I am putting throughout my new home. It was difficult to find transition pieces that worked with it. Most of the transition pieces fit better on 8mm floors. We did find some elsewhere that worked perfectly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap quality, AVOID Don't be fooled by how attractive this laminate is. It's manufactured poorly. The tongue and groove system for assembly is so flimsy and breakable. In many of the boxes I opened, the tongue on the short ends was already broken. And this was not a shipping or handling issue. The tongue was just peeling away from the board. When I tried to install these planks, many of the ends kept popping up. This flooring boasts a "click and lock" system. But there is not clicking and no locking. I've installed quite a few laminate floors and this was the worst flooring I've ever worked with. I'm including photos. I'm taking this back to and getting my money back.
