I purchased this EXPENSIVE light as it advertised it used standard bulbs. Now that I have tried 3 types of bulbs, I can assure you this is not the case. I have not found a bulb that does not sit flush against the glass. The design for mounting the glass is also poor. This would all be resolved with an opening on the bottom instead of full glass dome. Poor design! It would be nice if a replacement dome was available that allows for an opening on the bottom side of the light....at this point, it seems like a nice way to collect bugs....if you can find a bulb that fits!

First purchase: got home and opened, it was a return that was broken. Returned light to HD
Exchanged the first light: got home and the glass was cracked. Returned light to HD
Exchanged the second light: Opened the package at the store, all secure with parts. Got home and one of the globe bolts was broken. Returned the third light to HD and went to Lowes.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Raoul Nice nautical look
I just purchased this lamp to instal it from my overhang in the front door. The lamp glass does not seal as they claim in the discription and doubt that it can keep bugs or water out. To change the bulb you have to disassemble the lamp, not an easy task. Other than that it looks very nice.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by jimbohuf Be careful what length bulb you use.
I really like the look of the lights, I bought 5 of them and they look great. However, you have to be very careful to buy the shorter length bulbs because some are longer than others and won't allow proper closure of the fixture. Very frustrating.

Love it. Easy to install/looks great. Gets away from the traditional look of out door lighting. LOVE IT.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Mahonia Major Design Flaws--Do Not Buy this Light
This lantern has an attractive design, and we liked the fact that it's "convertible." However....There are a few major flaws. First, the instructions and packaging call lfor a 100 w bulb. A 100 w bulb will not fit into this fixture, simply can't install it. Second, to install a bulb or change a bulb or clean the light (others noted it collects bugs), the light must be opened from he top, a very inconvenient and close to impossible (if the light is installed as a flush mount). Major design flaws. We're returning it.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by LL656 May have manufacturing issues or a lot problem
A standard A19 light bulb would not fit in the light fixture I purchased. The globe definitely would not fit with a standard 60 watt or equivalent A19 bulb installed. It was necessary to use a cutting wheel to remove 3/8" from the welded extension between the globe holder and the light socket. It was also necessary to remove the nut between the globe holder and light socket, so about a total of 1/2" was removed. Ease of installation would have been a five except for the problem described above. I concur with others regarding the globe not being properly sealed and the globe will become a big bug collector. The finish is okay, but essentially brown paint. I've seen better bronze/copper painted finishes. The manufacturing QA was poor on this particular unit since the hollow bolt between the globe holder and base was threaded in only two threads. Needless to say, the globe holder dropped on my head . . . my "bad" for not checking. I would not recommend buying this because the quality is not what I would expect for the price and basic feature that should be in an outdoor light.

This lamp was very easy to install. It looks great on my old porch. My only complaint is that after only a week the glass was full of dead bugs. I don't leave the linght on all night and only turn it on when I need it but even with that limited use a lot of dead insects were inside the light. It's too easy for them to get into. I can see myself having to diassemble the light a few times a year to clean out the dead bugs. Also, one has to also disasemble the light in order to change the blub.
