Customer Questions & Answers

Is it cool touch? Does it really warm up the space?

I have a 2 year old and don't want his little face or curious hands burn't by the electric fireplace. Also my back room is freezing and wondering if this will help warm it up or of it is just for looks?
Asked by: Wanda
There is one small area that is not very cool to the touch but I have a 3 year old and an 18 month old with no problems. You really have to stick your fingers up there to get to it. It definitely can help warm up the area.

It is closer to definitely closer to white than cream. I would describe it as a warm white.

does it have a remote? and can you use without heat?

Asked by: beverly
Yes, the Remote Control is included free. Be careful when you open the packaging because it is kind of small and can be overlooked. Its is wonderful to lay in bed and control your fireplace without getting out of bed. It one of the main reasons why I chose it.. I cant explain in words how Comforting this fireplace is. It is absolutely AWESOME !

Customer Reviews

Ludlow 44 in. Media Console Electric Fireplace in Bleached Linen is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Thermostat on the unit is terrible!!!! Have had the unit for 1 month, waited two weeks for shipping. Could not get home shipping, had to ship to store. YOU MUST HAVE AN SUV TO PICK THIS UP. IT WILL NOT FIT IN A WAGON OR A HATCH BACK!!!!!!! We have a master bedroom that has a ton of windows, so during the winter months in Tx, it can be a little chilly when it hits below 30. We have central air/heat but we wanted this as supplement to warm the room before we go to sleep (no need to heat the whole house). It's a reasonable sized room, at about 15ftx24ft, 10 ft ceilings. The problem is that the unit registers it's own temperature, instead of the rooms! So the air coming out is around 80/90/100 degrees (once it warms up). But as soon as the unit is on for more than 3 minutes, it kicks off, cools down for two minutes and kicks back on for another three minutes. It never stops this cycle. Because of this, it can't keep up with the chill in the room. What we have figured out is that, for some reason, 86 degrees is the magic number. About an hour before we go to bed, we turn it on to 86, with the timer set for 2 hours. At 86, it continuously blows, without kicking off and is finally able to warm the room to around 72 when it starts out at about 68/70 ambient room temp. I wish two things of this products function: 1- That there was no thermostat, and it just had a constant on/off function. This way, I could set it to Low/med/hi and get the temp I want by adjusting and leaving it on a timer. The kicking on and off of the unit can be REALLY annoying to listen to. -or- 2- Move the thermostat to a different location that is NOT NEAR THE BLOWING HOT AIR. How hard would that be? If you must have a thermostat, move it to the front portion of the unit, toward the bottom, where no air comes out of it. Then, it would have a better chance of registering the proper ambient temp. -----------Appearance-------------- I read some things here that say that the unit came unfinished/poorly finished/banged up. That is how I would describe this unit. It's nicely build, out of compressed material that is, but it's incredibly sturdy. The finish of the paint/color leaves quite a bit to be desired and if you're not up to the challenge of at least giving this thing a coat of spray paint, don't buy it. Seriously. It does not come ready to be displayed. I would be embarrassed if someone saw this in my living room or as a main focal point, as it arrives. There are exposed nail heads, there are scuffs, there are places where you can tell one area got one coat and others go two. It's VERY OBVIOUS. That being said, I shopped for two weeks straight looking for a unit that was not butt ugly and looked like it came from granny's house. This unit has a wonderful shape, a great presence (from a distance when not painted) and it's a nice height. Other units are at the knee level! This one is almost to my chest and I'm 5'10. Instead of the typical lackluster, flat firebox... THIS ONE IS CURVED! The glass on the front curves so well with the unit, it really turns the design up a few notches! A lot of these units can end up being cheap looking but this (once you finish the paint) looks really really nice. -------------Hardware----------- The cabinets on the sides are really great for storing random things that have no home, product boxes, jewelry boxes, even a a good stash for money/weapons/flashlight/etc. as it's really hard to tell those cabinets are there and no one would suspect. The top, removable, curved, pocket door is also really sturdy. The magnets they use are embedded in the wood, so when the door is off, you can't tell! The door is sturdy feeling and the provided knobs are of nice quality and a good look. The firebox itself seems sturdy and is pretty to look at. The "fire" has a warm glow and it's not as cheesy looking as most electric fireplaces. Overall, I would say this: If I knew someone personally who wanted this for focal purposes only and not necessarily to provide a ton of heat, I would say go for it. It would be great in a study, in a bedroom/guest room or in a basement, strictly to give the look of a design piece. If I knew they were up to the task of doing something about the finish, I would say "Yes, get it." If you're wanting something for practicality, this is not the one for you. If it were any colder here, I would have returned this and gotten an infrared electric fireplace. I think for the $, this unit is good enough and it's got a WAY better look than most units that are twice as much money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great product! Great look, the hidden storage on the sides does not take away from the overall look of a fireplace and mantel. The only thing that could be improved would be the door on the top portion of the cabinet, it is held in with magnets and then when you take it off, you have to store it somewhere. hinges or a cable system to lower it would be more attractive. Otherwise, it is an excellent product and looks great!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great design lousy manufacturing Delivery was a day later than promised. Delivery company lied and said I couldn't refuse product and send back through them, they drop off only. It took 2 weeks to pick up. Once bank refunded $$ it got picked up 12 hrs later. It's painted paper and particle board, under painted, bubbling and unfinished, raw unfinished edges and seams, streaked, inside cabinets were half painted half bare. Worth maybe $150 for the heater and zero for the casing. Casing is like cheap do yourself book shelves and not as good of quality. 1 drop of water or 1 major relocation would instantly weaken and damage it. It came out of box nicked from shipping pressures. Not for your living room. Amazing and functional design, photographs well. Waste of money as furniture. Better to fabricate with quality materials, better workmanship, and charge $500.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MY FIREPLACE IS SO WONDERFUL Was easy to put together. I LOVE IT ! I am a Glass Artist. I put one of my Terrariums on it and it looks GORGEOUS !!!. The fireplace just purrs along and has a Remote control so I can turn up the heat from my bed so it my toes get too toasty, I can just "push button" and Whalla ! Love it. I searched for months and did "price comparisons" and by far, Home Depot had the best deal as usual. Home Depot knocked this one out of the Ball Park.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Look For Something Else I had been looking for a white fireplace with storage for a while and was so excited to find this one and at a reasonable price. it took a week or so for delivery to the store. I picked it up, not a light piece, and brought it home. I excitedly opened the box and started pulling the pieces out to find a very poorly crafted pressed wood fireplace that looked as if it were painted by a two year old. It looked awful. The top piece was a bright white while the bottom piece was three different shades of white. The side storage doors had huge gaps so it was very noticeable that there were doors on the side. The side doors were also a different color of white from the rest of the piece. I couldn't believe that the manufacturer actually put it in the box and shipped it. Very disappointing experience.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor workmanship I bought a white fireplace which the workmanship was horrible. The materials are all different. It is made with painted MDF, painted pine, and laminate practical board. The different materials are different shades of white. The side doors (laminate partical board) have a yellowish tint which does not match the rest of the fireplace. There is wood blocks (pine) on the inside holding up the shelves which are not painted and unfinished. To top it all off the remote only works on occasion. Home Depot should not sell this product because it will give them a bad name. Quality is very poor

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stylish and Functional This Media console was delivered during the time frame promised at purchase and was very easy to assemble, The material is sturdy, and can fit a large flat screen TV; the heater was adequate for a 11 x14 converted garage and the details (knobs) (carvings) (brick facade) give it a nice polish, If you pick up at the Home Depot store bring someone who is strong as the unit is packaged very well but is heavy.
