I bought two in 24" and one in 48" in the cherry color....I am so happy with the quality and the ease of hanging. The holes were exactly cut out so my husband could hit a beam on both screws. The pics sit well due to the "lip" at the end of the shelf...no falling pics !! So happy happy happy with this purchase

There was a wooden lip on edge that was warped and not glued/fastened down. I had to remove re-glue clamp and tack down.
The holes to hook on wall were flimsy so I had to re drill and reinforce.
Finish is poor.
Disappointed but I didn't want to wait three more weeks for another. It is up

It's beautiful It is exactly what was described on the website. It appears to be very easy to hang and the little lip along the front edge will keep things from slipping off the shelf. Very happy with this product!!!!

I love my floating shelf! It is beautiful and was easy to hang. And the customer service at Home Depot in Greer was wonderful as usual! :)

I bought these shelves in 5 sizes to fill a wall in the dining room. The 12" shelf I received is two inches wider than all the others. Thus it sticks out farther from the wall. I won't be using it in the dining room, but can probably find a place for it elsewhere. The lip to keep things on the shelves is somewhat flimsy only being attached at the ends. The longer shelves have some play in the lip as a result. If you were planning to display a heavy platter, this may not be the shelf for you. They were easy to hang just by holding the bottom of the shelf perpendicular to the wall (resting a level on the shelf edge to keep it straight) and marking the holes on the wall. They will transfer some of their color to the wall if you are not careful. But it wiped off with a sponge and just water.

I was looking for a long shelf to be the focal point of a grouping of black and white pictures. This shelf is perfect. It has a raised edge, to keep the photos from sliding, is a good length, and the white contrasts nicely with the black frames. It was packed well, and arrived in excellent condition. I also liked the fact that it was made in the USA.

I bought the unfinished mantel shelf and stained it myself. It turned out absolutely beautiful and was so easy to do (my first time staining)! Highly recommended if you do not see the finish that you want. Shelf is easy to hang- just get your measurements correct. Not a flaw on it and very sturdy.
Extremely happy with this purchase
Note: There is a lip on the shelf (to prevent objects from falling) that changes the actual depth of the shelf to about 3 3/4 inches.

It seemed like a useful and attractive piece on the catalog page, but after receiving and installing my shelf, I have different thoughts. I purchased it for use over my bed's headboard to put things like a reading lamp, kleenex box, clock, remote controls, etc.
Pulling the shelf out of the box, I saw that it had a raisin-sized ding right on the front edge, even though the outer box itself was undamaged- meaning that it probably went into the box with the ding already in place! I almost sent it back right there, but since no one will ever see it but my wife and myself, I touched up the dent with a little stain and called it good.
The raised front edge (to prevent roll-offs) was nothing more than a length of 1/4" square wood, crudely glued to the top of the shelf. While a useful feature, this raised edge significantly cuts the useable shelf area, so my lamp, clock, and kleenex box sit ON TOP of the raised edge, rather than behind it.
The sprayed top-coat on the shelf was poorly executed, with several runs and darker thick spots
The 2 tear-drop mounting holes on the back are spaced at 24" and do not line up with typical 16"-center house wall studs. Two screws are supplied, but anchors will also be necessary, since you will never find 2 studs spaced correctly. My lath-and-plaster wall construction made installation that much more difficult. The mounting holes are not formed evenly, so the screws protrude from the wall at different lengths to allow for the difference in mounting-hole depth.
After finally getting the screws adjusted JUST RIGHT so that the shelf was supported snugly against the wall, I realized that the rear mounting surface of the shelf (the edge against the wall) was cut NOT QUITE SQUARE, resulting in a forward slope of the shelf (and hence the need for the raised front edge!) To level it out, I had to make some one-sixteenth-inch-thick shims, pull up on the front edge of the shelf, and shove them up into the void.
As a woodworker myself (I build guitars and basses), I now regret that I did not just build a shelf myself- I thought the pre-made unit would be easier and less time-consuming. My mistake.
