Customer Questions & Answers

Is the light kit optional? Is there a plate to cover the base of the fan when no light?

Asked by: kawena
yes to both

Reverse function

Can you reverse the fan spin via the remote? or do you have to manually access a switch on the housing?
Asked by: Carol
Old question. There is a switch on top of the motor housing to reverse. A remote switch function would have been a nice feature to have.

I need a 12 - 18" 'Mediterranian bronze' down rod for this fan. (It came with only a 6-inch down rod.) Can I get that from Home Depot?

Asked by: MowingMom
I was able to find a matching down rod at the Home Depot I purchased from. These are pretty standard though, you should be able to find a matching rod at any location that sells ceiling fans.

Is this really a dual mount fan?

The description for fan says it is dual mount, but no where in installation manual does it talk about mounting it any other beside with the down rod. What is the other mounting options and where are the instructions to do it?
Asked by: klong1118
Yes it is. The mount that comes with it will let you install on a level or sloped ceiling.

McFarland 60 in. Mediterranean Bronze Ceiling Fan is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bought, broke, and returned in two months Just returned one to Home Depot today. I bought it late January, and by the end of March, the motor was bad. It started making a clicking noise inside of the pre-assembled motor, and despite my attempts using basic mechanical engineering experience, I couldn't find or fix it. Took it down, and rather than risk a second bad one, replaced it with a Hunter, which have never let me down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have to use your brain for flush mount No flushmounting instructions, there is a plastic ring on the bottom of part C, take it off to see six mounting holes in the same pattern as the mount on the motor, use the ring that comes off with the six screws as a backing plate inside part C. Do not use parts B or D. From here it is apparent how the fan will mount to the hanger bracket. Flush mounted depth is about 15.5 inches. Very quiet, beautiful fan. Good luck, hope this helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grand, Impressive Fan We had in our VERY LARGE Kitchen/Dining area a white ceiling-hugging fan that was too small to be useful and too ugly to keep. We also have a lovely Tiffany-style lamp that we wanted to use with whatever fan we chose. Well, we brought home a high-class Hunter fan, even with an internal heater, but it wouldn't work with the Tiffany lamp and had some other issues. After a LOT more research, happened across this one and decided to try it. The original fan was too small. The 52" Hunter would have worked, size-wise, but this one is 60". Thought I'd try it. SHAZAM. Looks fabulous in our wood-everywhere kitchen, and the Tiffany lamp has some shades in it that go wonderfully with the fan body. What they don't tell you: it's really VERY efficient (12 watts at low speed, which still moves a lot of air); it includes its own "dimmer" function in the remote, which works really well (but not wit CFL bulbs - we're using dimmable LED's; and there IS a reverse function, but it's only atop the motor, NOT on the remote. I had to use a different support rod for the large Tiffany shade, but it works well. A bit expensive, but works well, and really makes a "statement." As in "I am HERE."

Rated 3 out of 5 by from GREAT FAN TILL THE LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING ...2.0 UPDATE UPDATE TO PREVIOUS REVIEW: GREAT FAN TILL THE LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING FAN IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. WAS NOT THAT HARD TO INSTALL IF YOU HAVE HAD A LITTLE EXPERIENCE. BUT AFTER 3 MONTHS THE LIGHTS QUIT. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS CLOSED AT NIGHT SO I WILL NEED TO THROW THIS IN THE TRASH AND BUY A HUNTER, SEEMS THEY NEVER BREAK! Talked to HD customer service and they said they would send me a new light kit. Expect this to arrive in the next week or so. will follow up with additional comments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great customer support I bought the fan for a replacement for the one in my master bed. I got it home and noticed it didn't have a pull chain (by design) and the circuit diagram didn't reflect how to tie in two switchs I already had in th master. Upon calling the support line I quickly got a REAL and POLITE human being. She promptly got me an electrical support personnel on the phone who quickly gave me all the answers to my questions. Needless to say I've got it wired up just the way I wanted with their quick help. Will definitely buy from them again.

Easy to install as most any other fan, but in one year after I installed it, the motor suffered from an internal motor issue. It was clicking as if each rotation was bumping an inside part. Because the motor is one pre-assembled unit, it's nothing I could fix. I exchanged it under warranty and have not had any new issues in the past few months. This is about the tenth fan I've installed, but the first to ever have a motor issue. Others (Hunter, Hampton Bay, Westinghouse) have been running nearly a decade with no problems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like it but... The good: - So I think the fan looks great, the blades are nice and don't look cheap like a lot of fan blades do. It has a nice antique-ish finish. - It mounts about as easy as any other ceiling fan I've installed but it is heavier than others. If you've installed a fan before you can install this, just read the directions. - The remote works well and the light dimming feature is nice and works well. - It mounts to a sloped ceiling, but I did buy a longer down rod than came with it. - Airflow, this fan REALLY does move a lot of air, and it does so really quietly. Usually don't need it above 2 to feel air and 4 blow papers off the nightstand. The not as good: - Incandescent Candelabra bulbs, I have bought the brightest ones I could find which are non frosted and put out about 625 lumens at 60 Watts, not efficient, and not super bright either, though much better than the bulbs that come with it. It says that it is not recommended to use LED bulbs, specifically with the dimming function so that limits your choices. - Light pattern (see picture), because I wanted/needed more light I had to get non frosted bulbs which shine directly up and while not annoying all the time, it does cast undesirable light pattern on the ceiling, and bit of a strobe light feel when the fan spins. With the frosted it's a little better but still not great. -The Remote, although it works fine, I was really annoyed to find that I HAVE to use it. I have a wired 3 speed wall switch and separate light switch wired to the outlet box. Inevitably what happens is, you go to bed at night and use the remote to turn off the light, then you get up in the morning and the light remains "off" but the switch is on. Then you go into your room at night when it's dark and flip the switch on, but it's already on, so you use your phone as a flashlight to track down the remote so you can turn it on again. Why wouldn't they include a wiring diagram or option to hard wiring to a wall control? If I could hard wire it, or use LED's, or even just regular bulbs it would be a 5

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome air flow We bought this fan for our great room. We have 10 foot ceilings and I was not sure if this fan would be strong enough. But it is!!! It puts off an amazing amount of air. I didn't install it. I had a professional install it so I am not sure about the ease of difficulty of it. It comes with a remote control which is so nice with 10 foot ceilings. The only complaint I would have is the light. It just looks kinda cheap to me. But other than that we love love love it.
