Customer Questions & Answers

Both fans that I purchased make a ticking sound. Sometimes at a higher speed it may stop but not all the time.

I had to pay to install these fans so it would be a waste of my money if I had to take them back just install a different one(brand). I love the way the look but I can't take the noise. I don't have them on most of the time. What a waste. Any Suggestions on what to check for? We have done all we could think of.

It could be that the blades are not tight. Unfortunately, I am having the same problem. I got on here to see if anyone else was going through this. I took the light kit off and made sure the screws were tight In the fan blades. This worked for me ...for about an hour, and then it did it again. So I tried again and it worked. And mid way through the night, it started back. How can I make the screws stay tight. We live the fan. It hate the noise.

How do I pair remote with receiver?

Asked by: DooDoo
Thank you for your question. The remote and receiver for the McFarland are paired at the factory and only require that the dip switches in the receiver and remote are set to the same settings. For more information on the remote dip switch settings, you can download the installation guide from the "Info & Guides" section located on the McFarland product page of Homedepot.com

can the fan be installed on a sloped ceiling? The instructions say to make sure the tab on the slide-on mounting bracket(A) socket is properly seated

Asked by: rt2451
Hi rt2451, I'm Travis from The Home Depot. Thanks for visiting our site. Yes, this fan can be installed on a sloped ceiling by adding a longer downrod. The ball will install to any downrod and then fits into the bracket with the tab. The length that you will need depends on the ceiling height and the slope angle. Longer downrods up to 72'' are available on: http://www.homedepot.com/b/N-5yc1v/Ntk-All/Ntt-ceiling%2Bfan%2Bdownrods?Nao=96&Ntx=mode+matchall&NCNI-5 or in your local Home Depot store. Thank you for asking, -Travis

Wiring both light switch and remote to work independently

I have the McFarland ceiling fan Model 51472. Can I wire the fan so it can turn on the light using either the existing single pole switch for the original light fixture and or the included remote? If so, will the current remote receiver work or do I need a different one? Are there wiring diagrams available to show this would be done? Thank you.
Asked by: Pat
The only way to wire the unit for operation is included in the instructions. You can find the manual to the right side of the product page under Installation Guide.

Is the light kit optional? Is there a plate to cover the base of the fan when no light?

Asked by: kawena
The box doesn't not come with base cover. You may be able to order it, just remember the remote that operates this fan has a light button.

Customer Reviews

McFarland 60 in. Mediterranean Bronze Ceiling Fan is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 70.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great customer support I bought the fan for a replacement for the one in my master bed. I got it home and noticed it didn't have a pull chain (by design) and the circuit diagram didn't reflect how to tie in two switchs I already had in th master. Upon calling the support line I quickly got a REAL and POLITE human being. She promptly got me an electrical support personnel on the phone who quickly gave me all the answers to my questions. Needless to say I've got it wired up just the way I wanted with their quick help. Will definitely buy from them again.

Easy to install as most any other fan, but in one year after I installed it, the motor suffered from an internal motor issue. It was clicking as if each rotation was bumping an inside part. Because the motor is one pre-assembled unit, it's nothing I could fix. I exchanged it under warranty and have not had any new issues in the past few months. This is about the tenth fan I've installed, but the first to ever have a motor issue. Others (Hunter, Hampton Bay, Westinghouse) have been running nearly a decade with no problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome air flow We bought this fan for our great room. We have 10 foot ceilings and I was not sure if this fan would be strong enough. But it is!!! It puts off an amazing amount of air. I didn't install it. I had a professional install it so I am not sure about the ease of difficulty of it. It comes with a remote control which is so nice with 10 foot ceilings. The only complaint I would have is the light. It just looks kinda cheap to me. But other than that we love love love it.

Thanks to MacGyver. Search for his review for instructions to flush mount. The lights are small stem candlelabra style. I will replace them with LED eventually. As far as install goes, pretty straightforward for me, I have installed many fans. Take your time, you can do it. My battery for the remote was dead, but not a big deal. Fortunately I had spares from my old fan remote.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Fan Had professional electrician install, so I can't attest to the ease of installation. But, since I now have 3 of the exact same fan it must suit my purpose. A note of caution- If you are using an extended downrod or installing on a slanted ceiling, be prepared for some wobble and/or clicking at certain speeds. Not ideal, but not enough to warrant a return. Also, do not expect a great deal of light from the light kit!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No Flush mount Bought this fan to flush mount in my family room. The box says it can be flush mounted along with the salesman. Got it home and after wasting a whole afternoon found out from customer service it can't be flush mounted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, elegant lines. Moves air as a ceiling fan should. We purchased two of these ceiling fans because the ones we had installed did not move air. We live in the Tropics and this is essential. This fan does the job.
