This bench is more red than I thought, even after reading other reviews, but I still like it. We purchased it for use in the living room, as extra seating, and a "toybox" for our 1 year old. I was worried about the baskets scratching it up, so I put extra polyurethane on the base of it before assembly. It helped some, but I have also hot-glue gunned some felt and ribbon around the bottom 2 inches or so - a basket cozy if you will - and that has fixed the problem. Looks cute that way. The baskets are sturdy - metal rimmed, and that will also be good with little ones so they do not get destroyed. It's not "fine furniture", but it's great for the price.

If this had been half the price, it would have been a decent buy, but there's no way it was worth the price. We bought the longest one (60") and it took forever to put together. First of all, there's no real wood to be found on this thing; it's all MDF (medium density fiberboard) and it weighs a ton. The finished product really doesn't look too bad, but I'm afraid the pieces will start to loosen over the years as the little clips and screws get stressed. The worst part is the cushion. It's held in place by little tabs of velcro that just don't work. It slides all over the place and you have to constantly adjust it.

It took me, with a little help, less than 3 hours to put together. One of the drawer knobs was stripped and I called for a replacement, which I assume will come. The construction is good compared to some other things we've put together over the years. I totally agree with the other comments about the very meager velcro attachments, but since I am using this more as coffee table/storage than a hall bench, I don't expect to be sitting on it. One of my concerns was the color of the back, since it is not up against a wall, and I am happy to say it is, while not the same material as the rest of the unit, at least fairly sturdy and black. The baskets may not be as sturdy as I had hoped, but only time will tell.

This entryway bench is a very useful size and shape. It is just what we needed in our office space. It is exactly how it is shown on the website.
Assembly was challenging as there was one piece where the screw was not long enough. I had to create the correct length of screw to hold it in place. Also there was one piece that did not have the screw hole. The accompanying bolt hole was there, so we just drilled our own screw hole and it worked fine. In addition, the assembly of the baskets was a little tricky because the screw holes did not line up very well.
I highly recommend this piece. However, if you struggle with assembling things and have no knowledge or skills in this area, it might not be the best choice.

I read all the reviews before I purchased, those who complained about assembly have nothing to complain about. I put this together MYSELF in 1 1/2 hours, my husband put in 4 screws, total!!! It took me another 15-20 minutes for the drawers and as for the wicker baskets, they are drying right now as I just spray painted them new color.
The instructions were right on, all the pieces, holes etc were there. If you have ever put an Ikea type product together, it is exactly the same. GREAT BENCH!! Shipped amazingly quick!! Would definitely recommend, I may buy another one!!

We purchased the 42" white bench and found it fairly easy to assemble - it took two of us about 2 hours. The tough part was the middle of the bench - the directions weren't quite as clear as for the other parts and we had to do some guesswork. But we were very impressed with the labeling of sections and the corresponding hardware. The cushion top is kind of cheesy and the drawers don't fit well (a little difficult to open and close - sanding helped) but the bench itself is very solid and has nice workmanship and there was not a single mark or scratch on it.

The assembly directions for this product were very easy to follow. We experienced only one mix-up. When you assemble the drawers you must be sure that the "groove" on the side and back panels is at the bottom of the drawer. The directions did not specify this and we had to re-do two of the drawers.
You need to have a very long, skinny screw-driver for several of the screws, as they go several inches down in a hole, rather than being on the surface of the wood.
I am very pleased with the product and would recommend it.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JoaneT I purchased 3 pieces from the Oxford Collection. Assembly was quite time consuming, especially when doing by yourself. Sizes very accurate. It's not hard, after you get the knack of putting together 2 other pieces. My daughter helped me with the bench which took about 1 1/2 hours. The desk, tv stand and bench look great in my office. The quality of collection is impressive and looks expensive. Call if you are concerned about the color. Online & even the catolog seem to have different variations of the Merlot color. (which is actually a red) I ordered the black. Very happy with it. I waited for the sale, got a promo code for addtional discount plus put it on my Home Depot card with no interest for 6 months. Well worth it! I would definitely recommend this collection.
