Customer Questions & Answers

I've been looking for a case like this but I'm not liking the finish

Is the exterior wood sandable so I can stain it another color? Maybe to make it look a bit more aged. or is it inexpensive wood? I would like to add maybe some moulding on top for a more dramatic effect like I would do kitchen cabinets
Asked by: Lynx
perhaps u could spray paint it the color you like.

From the internet photos, it appeared to be good quality and with the price, it should have been. The morning I began assembling it, there was an immediate problem with the bottom piece and the cam locks-first red flag. After thirty plus years as a designer and assembling just about everything, this should have been simple. The cam locks would not set deep in the holes and stay there. Once trying to lock the bolts into place, the cam locks would rise up out of the hole and not allow a tight fit. One of the cam locks actually disintegrated. When the unit was ready to attach the doors, it kept listing to the right and to the left. This should not happen if the cam bolts/locks are of good quality and fit well. Just as the doors were about to be attached, when my back was turned, there was a huge crash as the entire unit leaned in one direction and collapsed. I was speechless--in all the years of building/assembling bookcases, I never ever had that happen. After six hours of hassling with the unit, I called Home Depot to arrange for a return. Needless to say, we are very disappointed. Along with the above mentioned problems there are some aesthetic issues as well: the cam locks are silver instead of a deeper colour material which causes them to be very noticeable and there are no covers to conceal the bright silver against dark wood. The shelf pins are white plastic and again very noticeable. And did I mention the quality (or lack thereof) of the cam locks? Note to the maker of this unit-it could be a really good product if you address the design issues and the aesthetic issues. In the meantime, we are going to buy a bookcase elsewhere.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Looking Shelf / Moderate Quality I purchased this shelf in Summer 2013 and I've had it for almost a year now. When assembling the shelf, I had a difficult time doing so alone. •You definitely need more than one person to assemble the shelf. •The back panel of the shelf is quite flimsy. •The knobs and glass seem fine. •I like that the doors have magnets so when you close the door, it securely closed. •When closed the doors look slightly uneven, but this could be due to the way I assembled. •The plastic shelf holders are NOT good quality. I had 2 shelves break because the plastic shelf supports either bent or broke.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 72" bookcase Excellent Cabinet for the money. Very Heavy. Moderate assembly difficulty but if you follow the directions you will have no trouble. No blemishes of parts upon delivery and I bought two of these cabinets. Well packaged. All parts present to the exact number needed. Note: When it comes to attaching the doors to the cabinet use three of the styrofoam packaging blocks stacked up to support the doors. If you select the right combination of blocks the holes in the hinges will align with the screw holes in the cabinet perfectly. One note...there are 4 small dowels used at the bottom of the cabinet...glue these in for better support. I would buy these again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product but... Great product, but cam-locks are made out of zinc. Broke two of them easily. Home depot got me replacement parts from the manufacturer. So the customer service was great! All put together now and it's a beautiful bookcase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great bookcase. This bookcase was very easy to put together, just read the instructions and you should be fine. It looks great in our living room. One word of warning, the glass doors are very heavy and If you are not on a level hardwood floor, it will tilt forward when the doors are opened. We have a carpeted living room, so we had to make a slight adjustment to make it work, but now it is perfect.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good looking but flimsy First of all, this shelf is a good value. It's difficult to find a good looking shelf with glass doors at this price. But the workmanship/design leaves much to be desired. The side pillars are too heavy in comparison to the single fixed shelf. After assembly, I had trouble closing one of the doors until a leaned it against a side wall (I put the shelf in corner). Pressing it up against the wall helped align the shelf and now the door opens and closes easily. It's simply extremely flimsy and this presents problems with alignment. The flimsiness causes one of the magnets to mis-align and it became to strong and took too much effort to open the door. I had to remove the metal that contacted with the top magnet on one of the doors because of this. So the design/build quality is overall kind of flimsy, but it is worth what you pay. Again, it's good looking and very cheap considering that you get a big, deep bookshelf with glass doors. It's not a bad choice if you can get over the flimsiness.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product My husband and I truly believe that we have assembled literally every available brand of office-type furniture on the market in the last 20 years. This is by far the best quality of this type furniture we have assembled. We are very pleased and will purchase this brand again should the need arise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed Beautiful look to this piece. Exactly what I wanted however it was a bit difficult to put together. Took me about 5 hours to but two together. I would have been able to do the whole thing myself but you'll definitely need another person to hang the doors and move it. Also, one of the glass panes had what looks like flecks of solder I couldn't get off. I ordered two and had about 15 boxes (file sized) of books - mostly hardbacks, but also paperbacks, and oversized - and still didn't fill up all the shelves in the two bookcases I bought.
