Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by frenchdecoratorgirl Beautiful Provence File Console, but...
We purchased this file cabinet in the fall of 2014 in the cream/chestnut. It is a very lovely and substantial piece that goes great with other Provence collection pieces. Color is great (I don't mind the slightly yellowish tone), cabriole legs and roomy drawers. My only disappointment is that the chestnut top has grooves in it! In my opinion, this is not an asset, and takes away a bit of the quality of the piece. This piece looks like fine furniture except for those grooves. I have placed a pretty antique lace runner over the top and the grooves are not visible that way. I do wish HD would have mentioned this detail in their description and show it in the photos. For this reason I give it a 4 instead of a 5. Overall, a very pretty piece., though.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by KirstenS Very nice for the quality - but mind the filing capacity...
This is a very pretty file cabinet - it goes beautifully with the traditional/French country look of my home office. So many filing systems are either boring industrial metal or just frustratingly generic-looking. This piece stands out for its pretty cabriole legs and grooved top.
Here's what you need to know:
The cream color does have a yellowish/greenish cast. If you are looking for a white or true ivory, this may not work for you. It also does have some "antiquing" - read, slashes - here and there on the surface that look more like "damage." I don't mind these, but my husband thought something was wrong with the piece. The cabinet also smells a bit paint-y. I'm hoping it fades quickly.
My husband was out of town when this was delivered, so I assembled it single-handed. However, wrestling on the table top without damaging it or hurting myself (I'm a 42-year-old fit but small woman) was a bit of a challenge. The cabinet comes packed in two boxes - the smaller of the two is easier to carry, but I had to open up the larger box and carry the table top and table base upstairs separately. The UPS man helped me get it in the house. It's BIG.
Assembly takes time, but the instructions are pretty clear and all of the parts come labeled in separate bags. Where I struggled was with the bolts and cam locks - I think the drill holes for the cam locks in the piece were slightly off, because the cam locks did NOT turn properly, and one cam lock stripped and broke. I chose not to try to replace it, as it was the last one I turned. For now, the piece is holding together and feels very solid.
If you go with the drawers as configured, you may be disappointed by the filing capacity of this cabinet. Each drawer only accommodates about a foot of files, letter or legal. However, previous reviewers stated that it was possible to replace the unit's hanging bars with hanging file folder frames so that letter-sized files can run laterally instead. I purchased a two-pack of letter-sized file folder frames that I was able to custom fit to the width of the drawers (about 21.5 inches - many frame kits are pre-notched to be customized down to 23 inches, so I had to get creative with hand tools to fix mine - if you have a metal saw or Dremel it would be easier). The fit is not perfect but it works for me. Here's a photo to show the final outcome.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by SabaGuy Attractive cabinet. Challenging assembly. Less "cream", more yellow.
Like the companion desk, the piece has beautiful lines. The color under filtered sunlight or warm white lighting is more yellow, less "cream". Not confident that the wood is poplar, I saw MDF on many of the components. Assembly should take about 2 hours, but for me it was closer to 5 hours. Reason, one of the drawer glides was defective and it took some time to figure out how to fix it without sending off for a replacement. Got the glide repaired and the drawers slide easily. The cabinet was very well packaged for shipment and arrived without damage.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by jlmath Very stylish
It was in perfect condition when it arrived, well packed, no damage. Since the directions said it took 2 to assemble, I waited for my husband before I started. It was really quite easy, the only thing I really needed help with was lifting the top and putting it on. One of the rare purchases that sent "extra" items (screws, etc) in case they were needed. It is as beautiful as the pictures. As other reviewers stated, the drawer space is really limited. The 2 drawers barely took the files I had in 1 and 1/2 drawers of a vertical file. If it was just made for the files to go left to right instead of front to back it would have much more room.

Our guest bedroom needed a makeover. Needs change and we needed to get my computer out of the kitchen but still needed a guest bedroom. The Provence File Console was so perfect that we also purchased the mirrored bookcase and the writing desk from the Provence collection. Clear instructions. Parts in labeled plastic bags.My husband is very handy and did not have any difficulty with the assembly. I was intimidated by the assembly but would have paid someone to but it together because it was exactly what I wanted and could not find any country French file cabinets. Very practical, useful and inviting area; thank you,HOME DECORATORS.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ralgablind Absolutely Beautiful and Moderately Functional
It is a stunning piece of home office furniture. I bought it for looks, first and foremost.
It does not have tons of filing space as the files run front to back, but like another reviewer said, it would be easy to purchase the letter sized frames and set them in the drawers to run laterally. I didn't need as much filing space as I anticipated, but it is good to know I have a solution, should I require it. As the files are there is a bit of space on the side inside the drawers for various office supplies. Plus, as it is desk height, the beautiful top can be used for storage, too.
The instructions were 95% clear, as one drawing/instruction of the drawer glides were incomplete and a little unclear. I had to fiddle with them to figure out exactly where they needed to be screwed in. Other than that it went together like a DREAM. It took me forever (about 3 hours) to put it together as I was doing it alone and I'm slow and methodical. Everything was perfectly labeled down to the individual bags of hardware, of which there were the exact number of pieces! Don't lose one, there are no spares!
Overall, I am absolutely thrilled that I spent the money on this. I am usually a cheapskate, so this was quite a bit for me to shell out, but I'm glad I did.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PatHS I love this piece. It is exactly what I expected. It came in a very timely fashion and for the most part I put it together myself. I would totally recommend this piece. Love the color too.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JMForager Worth the loooooong wait ....
Although it took six months to receive, the Provence File Console was worth the wait. There are many pieces to assemble, but the assembly process was smooth. There was a horrid chemical stench for the first couple of days, however with open windows and a ceiling fan running 24/7, the stench dissipated. Bottom line, the wait, the multiple pieces and the initial chemical stench considered, this is the most beautiful file cabinet that I have seen.
