This bookcase is in our kitchen, with fabric bins on the lower shelves for storage, and pottery and serving pieces on the upper shelves. It is attractive (got it in black) and sturdy enough for this purpose. I'd buy several more for use as bookcases if my budget allowed right now. It went together as easy as any "assemble from a box" type of bookcase can. There were a few frustrating moments of not being able to line up the hardware just right, but several minor adjustments got it done.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0Â by Liz01 Nice looking finished product---Assembly required!
While the finished product is nice looking, my big gripe with this is that the Home Depot website stated that no aasembly was required. It was a lot more expensive than other bookcases, but I thought I was getting a solid wood finished product. Instead, it took three weeks to receive two boxes which took two people a long time to assemble. You should have an electric screwdriver for the back panel as it requires 44 screws which are very difficult to put in with a manual screwdriver. I like the bookcase, but I NEVER would have paid that much for a product that required full assembly. The back panel on ours was not exaclty aligned so installing it caused minor damage to the bottom shelf. Can't see when books are on it, but for that price, you want to start out with a perfect product.

I bought 2 of the Home Decorators Collection Sheffield Antique White 5 Shelf Open Bookcases. It took me about 1.5 to 2 hrs. to assemble one by myself. Not a problem at all. While I do like the sturdiness and style of the bookcases, that is about all there is to like.
The are many dents in the finish and many, many random spots without paint. The bookcases were packed very well and this did not happen during shipping. They obviously were shipped out in this condition. I contacted Home Decorators to see if they would send me paint to repair their product. They said they don't manufacture the item so they are not responsible. When I asked who does manufacture it, they said just tell Home Depot. Hopefully, they read these reviews. Definitely not worth the price that I paid. Unless you don't mind filling in all of the dents with wood filler and repainting, do not buy these bookcases.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0Â by Janet Wide shelves and attractive.
I do not like the haphazard little round places where the pieces were connected--these little unpainted spots certainly detract from the lovely piece of furniture. I might not mind so much if they were evenly placed. I have seen some furniture where they provided little plastic plugs of the same color. I feel that I paid a good price for this and was very disappointed.

I needed this for my cardmaking/ crafting. Most bookcases were anywhere from 23-29 inches wide. This is 36" wide which means each shelf can hold 3 of my 12" X 12" paper pads across. It makes it very efficient, plus I can stack several on top of each.
My only complaint is that on one shelf some of the screws came through a bit and made a bump on the unit that will not be visible when I put my stored items in it.
It is very big, very pretty and I am glad I bought it.
