Customer Questions & Answers

Can this floor be nailed / stapled?

The installation description only lists glue and Elastilon for installation methods. Can this floor be nailed or stapled down?
Asked by: Ed
The 1/2 inch can be nailed/stapled. You need a special nailer/stapler though. The one used for 3/4 hardwood will not work.

Can the Strand Woven 1/2" solid (model # HD13003C) or any other strand woven tongue and groove be nailed down without voiding the warranty?

In the store there is a nail down symbol next to the 1/2" solid wood but on the website and in the downloadable instructions it only mentions glue down or Elastilon installation. It looks like the 1/2" solid is tongue and groove which I understand can typically be nailed down. I want to make sure I don't void the warranty by nailing down.
Asked by: n2779
I'm looking at the instructions from mine and it gives nail down instructions, as stated before use smaller 15 gauge cleats or 7d nails. No warranty void. And after I used the glue down method (Roberts 1509) I'd never do it that way again. Nail, staple it! The glue does give a decent feel to the floor and sponges up for sound dampening but is a pain to work with and once you've got a board that dry fit just perfectly it becomes a problem and now there's glue all over, lift it up and it's dripping, splattering on the other boards and you are cleaning cleaning cleaning and still not getting it all! Don't glue!

Are the edges finished?

I have seen some products, and the tongue and grooves aren't finished. Do these have finished edges? And the short ends of the boards - do they have tongue and groove edges too? Are they finished?

The product description states that a pad is required. Is this true for glue down applications?

Asked by: PotentialBuyer
Don't remember where or why a pad would be required. I installed over normal wood subfloor with nothing under it. Installation was fine and floor looks great 1 year later.

Strand Woven Antiqued Harvest 1/2 in. x 5-1/8 in. Wide x 72.83 in. Length Solid Bamboo Flooring (23.29 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tigerstripe wood was great Beautiful product. Colors all the way through. Only smooth/surface finished on one side. Don't let the hardness fool you. It does scratch easy. The hardness just makes it difficult to use a finish nailer (18ga struggled so I predrilled the holes before shooting). I didn't use this wood on floors I used it to make sidewalls on a custom wet bar I made for a clients LSU man cave room. Overall great product. Will definitely use again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost terrific Floor turn out even better than expected. One issue is that since product is only available online it is out of your control as to lot numbers and manufacturing dates. This resulted in 3 lots over 18 months with a single order of 600 SQ feet requiring additional time to make the color blend properly. I would still recommend this product. Second bamboo project and I believe the best part of each project. I was a little concerned with waste and packaging but you could.not ask for more. Terrific packaging process and the trueness of each plank creates little waste far superior to other wood products I have laid in the past

To say this is harder than nails is no understatement. We used a nail gun with a tongue and grove shoe attachment. To nail straight through at the starter boards required 120 lbs. PSI and tongues took 110. Two things to note are 1. You are going to get a dozen or more splinters and 2. The boards are 72 3/4 inch long, not 72. We keep thinking we were measuring cuts wrong, took us several rows to figure out where our problem was. Overall I would rate flooring highly and buy again. I like the strand woven solid bamboo and prefer nail or glue to snap and click, the integrity of the joints are always significantly better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Home Depot failed me Beautiful floor. Horrible product. My contractor installed this flooring throughout my hall, living and kitchen area, as per Manufacturers incredibly particular directions. Ph tests, humidity tests, floor level tests, etc. This floor was glued down with an expensive "special" bamboo flooring glue. Within a month, the entire kitchen area was warping so severely he offered to replace it. After 2 months of being ignored by Home Depot as to any product warranty, they finally sent their expert so he could cite several reasons why it was no their problem. So I bought some MORE, (and of course I had to buy it from Home Depot to match what was not yet warped (we'll get to to that), and pay to have it torn up and then he paid another contractor to have it reinstalled. This time it took about 2 months, and now all of the flooring is warping. I have learned how to patch the areas that you cannot walk over without tripping on, but a great remodel has been ruined by a substandard product. I went to HD because of Lumber Liquidators bad rep, but I got treated no better. Very disappointing.

Installation was easy (if you have a little experience and the right tools). This flooring is very hard - it needs to be pre-drilled for face nailing. A flooring nailer is needed, regular nail guns (finish nailer or stapler will not work). Start with a sharp saw blade and have an extra blade as the product will dull the blade.
