Does a nailer exist?

This question is from Strand Woven Harvest 3/8 in. Thick x 4.92 in. Wide x 36-1/4 in. Length Solid Bamboo Flooring (24.76 sq. ft. / case)

The instructions clearly state "NOTE: For 3/8 in. thick flooring, we recommend a nailer with 1 in. long cleats. Angle entry at 55 degrees." Home Depot does not rent a 20 ga nailer, and the only one they offer for sale (not available in stores, order only for $295) has an angle entry of 45 degrees. I am unable to find any 20 ga nailer with a 55 degree angle entry, anywhere. This solid strand product is only 3/8 thick, so a 10 degree variance may in fact make the difference between splitting a tongue on install or eventual board splitting over time. So my question to Home Decorators Collection and Home Depot is, who makes and where can I find the proper tool to acheive the damage preventing recommended install method for your product?

Had the same question so I called the manufacturer directly and after speaking with their tech an 18 gauge brad nailer will work. Their tech acknowledged there is not a nailer he knew of that met the requirements, but that any 16, 18 or 20 gauge hand-held nailer held at a 45 to 55 degree angle would work. I picked up a Ridgid 18ga brad nailer for about $79 and will give it a try and report what happens. Read More

This product is not made to be glued at all according to the wrappers on the boxes---and surely not glued to particle board sub flooring; I have glued the 5/8 product to concrete without incident [so far]. When it is stapled to good plywood base felt paper should be used under it as a moisture helper

Answer:
If you are installing over a concrete subfloor, it can be glued directly to the concrete as long as the concrete is not painted. Alternatively, this product can be installed using Elastilon self-adhesive matting. I have not personally used Elastilon, but it is supposed to work quite well. There is a lot of info and video available on the web for this product

I've see the review from "Fuzzy" below, and it says to make sure that you use the expensive recommended glue. Can you tell me which brand this is? Thank you

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Big mistake Picked this floor as glue down due to the beautiful color....very disappointed with the quality of the product..installed as a glue down on concrete....floor started to buckle within 3 months after installation...certain areas of the floor buckling like potato chips..should've stayed with the 5/8" product lines...not enough time in my life to remove new flooring and replace it...let alone the added cost...I'm sure as a floating floor this would be a fair product to use...as a glue down, not very happy... Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by don't use glue down unless you know what ur doing! I hired someone off FB to install this with a glue-down application. Good Lord did he leave a mess behind. We are having a hard time getting all the smudges off. The glue is very pricey also. We plan to do the rest of the house with this, but we will use, instead of glue, a product called Elastilon....my husband did some research on it and we're hoping we don't end up with the mess these guys left. They did finally come back to clean up though. If you are looking for a floor with a high gloss this is not for you. It does have a lot of the color variation that I wanted, and the picture posted on the HD website doesn't do this floor justice. October 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful and economical product. Looks so much better than carpets in my bedrooms. We were looking to dress up the looks of our 4 bedroom floors, which had beige carpeting on plywood. We wanted hardwood and found this bamboo product which was recommended because of its hardness rating and it was solid material, not a laminate. We started with one small room first to see how well it would go down and what it would look like. We were smitten by its look and feel. It was easy to install as well. We finished the other three bedrooms. I used the floor muffler foam padding as an underlayment and a brad nail-gun with one inch brads, three per board. The gun was a bit tricky until I got the hang of it. You need to maintain the correct angle to get a good hold. You can also rent a special nailer, but I already had the gun. If you are DYIng it, you should have a good table saw and a band saw makes special cuts easy. As stated the material is very hard, so a carbide blade is best for cross cuts. The product has a variation of colors, which when mixed in gives a beautiful look. It is now 2 months since completed. Found one light scratch. Used a bit of Old English wood cleaner and no scratch. Very durable material. January 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I love it My new floor is beautiful. I have already recommended it to several family members and friends. It was a relatively easy install, my son did it for me, it was his first wood floor installation. The price was extremely reasonable, I did lots of comparisons before I purchased. September 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just right for the job The bamboo was excellent. The perfect floor for my motor home. The hardest surface of any flooring I have ever used. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very happy with the product Use the product in our basement that we finished because of the size of the planks and the quality of the engineering on the product install was very quick and efficient very happy with the overall appearance and the finish. I'm a builder and so I've used the 3/8 tongue & groove material that is stapled to the subfloor. This click together product has the same durable finish same color. so very happy with the product .but you get the speed of a click together product . So I installed a little more than 500 ft.² in about a 4 hours. I was able to lay out all my starters and finishers pre-cut them and go to town with the install. I would always recommend using a good underlayment pad. But overall very happy February 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Over 12000 sqft at risk due to defective product I have used this brand of floor in 2 different colors in about 7 homes. I currently have 3 homes with this product in at the moment. I have peaking and cupping floors all over the place. This included floor installed over plywood sub base I have heard every excuse in the book from how we used the wrong glue to the moisture content in the floor is to high. 90% of the floor was installed over existing concrete floor that was cleaned and prepped and the moisture content was checked. I was told we were not acclimating the floors sufficiently. The 3200 sqft I have down now was in an controlled air conditioned house for 60 days. We use the Roberts 1509 or 1530 glue. We have been removing parts of the floor and finding a greasy substance in these areas. I recently had Home Depot deliver 24 cases to a job. We waited 5 days for it to acclimate in a air conditioned controlled home. The boxes were opened and unpacked to acclimate. We decided to go back and test every piece of flooring for moisture and we had 7 boxes worth of flooring with the a moisture content that way exceeded the acceptable level after acclimating for 5 days. We recently had to 18 patches on a floor for the same product where it was peaking on concrete and plywood sub floor. We tested each area sub floor and it registered 0 moisture and the flooding was again of the chart with moisture content.. I went into Home Depot and asked them to pull 5 boxes of the shelf and we randomly tested the flooring moisture content in the flooring and about 20-30% of the box had a moisture content that was again extremely high. You could almost feel the pieces that were defective, as they were colder and more greasy than the rest of the box that was within range. Home Depot has filed a claim and now the manufacture is delaying the processing as the paperwork was not filled out accurately. Apparently the customer, which is me cant have an address that is different to the house where the problem occurred. The paperwork was filed out again and we are still waiting for a response from manufacturer. Today I spoke to another contractor that is having the same problem and is being given the same run around. This defective product has cost me tens of thousands in material and labor. This product is still on the shelf and will be sold to an unsuspecting customer September 8, 2015
