Product Overview

The patented High-Efficiency Blade System of the Home Decorators Collection 52 in. Brushed Nickel Windward IV saves up to 75% more energy, and moves up to 40% more airflow than standard fans while allowing for ultra-quiet, wobble-free operation. This simple, yet contemporary design has an integrated light kit with frosted opal glass bowl and includes two 13-Watt GU24 bulbs. The fan's 29 degree steeper blade pitch provides greater air movement, and features a three-speed reverse function for year-round comfort and savings. The thermostatic remote with LCD screen controls the speed of your ceiling fan (high, medium, low) and the light. The remote includes a programmable feature that allows the fan to automatically turn on and off when the room reaches a desired temperature. This Energy Star rated, Eco Option ceiling fan has less of an impact on the environment than comparable standard ceiling fans.

Sorry to hear that you are not able to remove the shade. You can see the removal process in the installation video on the Windward IV product page (fast forward to the 15:30 mark). If the bowl is stuck, you can try to lightly knock around the edges (like knocking on a door), this will help to jar the bowl loose if it was twisted on askew which could cause it to lock-up. Answer:
Thank you for your question. The blades for the 44" and 52" versions are not interchangeable. The 44" has quick connect blades and the 52" version does not.

Thank you for your question. Yes the light and fan can be controlled by separate switches. doing this would disable the remote control's light control feature. You would need to wire the fan's light wire (blue wire) directly to the wall switch - bypassing the remote's receiver. Then, you would connect the fan's power wire ( black wire) to the receiver and then receiver to the the wall switch. Please note Read More

Then, you would connect the fan's power wire ( black wire) to the receiver and then receiver to the the wall switch. Please note that this only works for standard on/off type switches. Doing this type of install would allow you to control the fan's speed with the remote. If you are wanting to wire to a speed control wall switch, the speed control must be a variable speed type switch, not a dimmer style switch. If wiring to a speed control wall switch, you would completely bypass the remote receiver ( not install the receiver.). You can not install both the receiver and speed control wall switch to control the fan. Read Less

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by light not working i just installed this and the fan works but the lights do not. my tester reads power to the wires at the bulb socket but when i put in the bulb it doesnt read power. can any one help with the solution? August 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Change to a 2amp fuse - most bad reviews because of light and/or fuse issue The fan pushes a lot of air. It looks nice. Most ceiling fan light combos have poor lighting. I have bought 2 others from the same family of fans. Nobody tells you and I don't know why the company doesn't change out the fuses, but anytime you hear about a fan with remote having problems, not just this brand, it's because of the fuse. They give you a 1.5 amp fuse when they should be putting in a 2 amp fuse. A few of the phone support guys know about this while a majority don't know, but I knew about this when I purchased and Home Depot gave me 2 2amp fuse at no charge. Never had a problem with them, so I did the same with this and works great. Not the best lighting. Not sure why they all put in such low light fixtures. I heard an electrician say he would never buy a fan with remote. He said mine would die in two weeks. Its been a year for the first one, 3 months for the second one and a couple of weeks for the third one. NO problems at all with any of them and whisper quiet pushing lots of air. I would recommend these fans if you don't care so much about the light, but DO ask for a 2 amp fuse. I almost gave it a 3 because of the lighting and the company not using a 2 amp fuse from the start, but this is a great fan. Also, I've seen so many people not install the fan properly. If you have parts left over, you didn't install it correctly. Yes, that includes the seal/ ring. I don't know what to call it, but if you don't use it, don't complain if you have problems. I've seen handymen have left over parts and you ask why and they say you don't need them. Well, that's when you have problems. Install it correctly and it will work. One fan in large kitchen on a flat ceiling, one in living room on a sloped ceiling, and one in a bedroom with flat ceiling. April 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome FAN! I love these fans! Installation was fairly easy. Only difficulty I had was installing the remote control assembly into the housing. It took me a little time but was able to get it done! If you like the style, I would definitely recommend them. August 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good office fan. This is a nice looking and fairly easy to install fan. It needs to have more wattage for the lights. August 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great! Mine was installed by an electrician but I watched and I think it's strait forward. Plus, there is an excellent YouTube video done by someone that is very informative. Pros: quiet, feature packed, moves air well. Cons: thermostat mode After installing this fan in my sun room, I could raise my thermostat for AC by 2 degrees and be comfortable. At medium speed, I cannot hear a thing. At high speed, I can hear mostly just blades hitting air. It's easy enough to use as a basic fan to controll speed and turn on the light. At best, it's difficult to set the thermostat mode properly so it turns on and off as the temperature changes. At worst, it doesn't work. I gave up on trying to use this mode and just select one of the three speeds. You can only run this fan using the supplied remote control. There are NO pull strings. If you are the type that might lose a remote, this fan is probably not a good choice for you. There is no built in way to control the unit via the Internet. It is not a smart home type of device nor does it claim to be. July 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing I specifically bought this fan because it said it uses standard CFL light bulbs. I had smart bulbs in my room but wanted to add a ceiling fan and keep my $60 smart bulbs. This fan does not use standard edison screw bulbs. It's some new standard they decided to make up and include with the fan. So now my $120 in smart bulbs are useless and when these bulbs die, I have no idea if I'll be able to get new ones. I hate doing all the research, making a decision just to get the wrong thing in the end. Really disappointing. Also, I paid a professional to install this. It took him 3 hours to figure out there was a loose connection in the remote pack. He had to crack it open, reconnect the wires more securely and put it together again. Also, the guy at home depot told me I could have separate wall switches to control the light and fan. Not with this ceiling fan. Now I have a wall switch that does nothing and one that controls both the light and fan. So annoying. Not what I wanted. Not worth the money. The only plus side is that it looks good. I wish I didn't pay someone to put it up. I'd tear it down and start again. July 18, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not as good as the Windward II So this fan has a couple of major downpoints, which really rather ruin it for me, I considered returning them but have instead opted to make do with it, though im not really happy. The glass bowl which covers the light is DARK, no, its white.. very white, but the enamel is so thick on the inside you can put 1000lumen bulbs in it and it'll look like 200lumens. It diffuses it massively too much. I'm in the process of finding something to strip them down so I can actually put them back up. Which leads to problem 2: If you use ANYTHING other than the supplied bulbs you're gonna have a bad day, in fact, even using those you have a pretty bad day, the cover is EXCEEDING close fit. Since it uses GU24 bulbs you can't buy good quality efficient bulbs without taking out a 2nd loan, so you'll want an adapter to standard fittings, which gives you a far better range of choice, And unless you use something small, its going to be a major squeeze getting the cover back on with 2 bulbs in there. The Fan itself... yeah, thats not bad at all, It puts through a ton of air and is energy star rated so its power friendly too. My third and final gripe, is not so major but its an additional annoyance. You're going to want help putting this light up, and you're gonna want stamina, not just holding it up to attach the wiring like normal in a ceiling fan, but you've also got to put up the stupid radio antenna for the remote control, which for some insane reason is a separate box which slides into the top of the bracket, above the fan. On the Windward 2, which i'd previously purchased, this was integrated into the body of the fan which made installation much easier, and honestly much more sensible, as there's less room for wiring mistakes. (Did i mention you have to wire the fan into the controller/receiver and then the receiver into your electrics? Yeah, just more faff and effort for something that should've been integrated. So yes, apart from my gripes its a good fan.. Regular price $170... maybe not THAT good but I got this on sale, I would've bought another windward 2 but Homedepot doesn't seem to like putting that one on sale. HOWEVER the light cover really ruins this for me, if you have it up there expect to be sitting in a dimly lit room. I'm currently operating mine with the cover off, it looks bad but its the only solution until I can work out how to strip the enamel properly from the cover. We actually like to be able to see in the room as well as be cool. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great buy, love this fan! I purchased 4 of these fans. I installed 2 of them, one in my child's room and one in my extra bedroom. I am very pleased with the contemporary look of the fan. I love having a remote controlled fan/light. You can create two different looks with this fan depending on ceiling height. I was able to do both looks. Assembly was really straight forward. The directions are clear and easy to follow. The first fan installation took about 1.5hours for me, but it was the first time I installed a fan. The second took no time at all! When the fan is on high, medium, and low setting there is no noise!
