Customer Questions & Answers

Does this fan work from both the remote and the wall switch?

According to my husband he followed all directions but I can't believe for the cost of this beautiful fan that the wall switch will not also turn the fan off and on. It appears that if the fan is set to operate off the remote that the wall switch does not also work. Please advise if this is not the case and where in the instruction guide we can find the directions to fix it. And thanks for your help.
Asked by: Pamiam
I wired the light strictly to the wall switch and the fan through the remote box. I did not want the lighting to be remote operated.

Do you have to use the light?

Is there a "blank cover" plate that comes with the fan, in the event I don't want to use the light?
Asked by: Diane
You can just not wire the light in, but if you are coming from only 1 power switch, you can wire it through the remote and it will control both features while receive power from a single switch.

How does the ceiling ring come down?

I have lost the manuel and need to get the fan down to correct the wiring as the fan is not working
Asked by: Kenneth
Correction...turn the ring clockwise, not counterclockwise about 1/8 of a turn.

Windward IV 52 in. Matte White Ceiling Fan is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 49.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pretty fan but electronically unsound Sure this fan is very pretty but the receiver died after 4 month's use, which means the remote control cannot operate it and there is no way to do so manually. Having being sent a replacement receiver I told it was "self explanatory" to re-install. However, on the Windward II the receiver is buried inside the motor housing spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to do this as well as speaking to 2 electricians via customer care. Eventually I was informed that the only way to insert the receiver is to detach the entire fan from the ceiling and dismantle it. My advice...but a model where you can operate it manually and save yourself the stress of going through all this!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Fan once bad part replaced I ordered this fan online and received it in a timely manner. I installed it myself and it was able to do it in one evening. Everything worked fine for ten minutes then the lights went out. Pulled it apart thinking I did something wrong but could not find any issues with installation. Started digging into the wiring between fan and lights and found a bad fuse. Went to the closest home depot and bought a replacement fuse. Took a few minutes to insert the fuse and re-attach everything to the fan and no problems since. Still not sure how I found the fuse issue, blind luck. Seems like a cheap fuse was used and that is why it blew. Fan is powerful and the light is strong, the remote has been nice to have.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Product Directions did not match the product. Turns out it had a blown fuse coming out of the box. Had difficulty in finding a matching fuse. Lighting is very dim and makes the whole room look dingy. Had it not been so difficult to install I would have taken it down and gotten another one. It DOES, however, move a lot of air.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great contemporary look Beautiful fan. However, reverse switch is on top, so with 12' ceilings, not likely this will be used much! Love the sleek unobvious look of this fan!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from very efficient, quiet fan As many people said, the fuse blew upon turning the light on. Also, I mounted it right on the ceiling, and couldn't get the cap up in position. It just wouldn't get high enough to align with the screw holes. I called in an electrician ($150) and he did it easily. To be fair, I also wanted to know if the electrical box would accept the torque and vibration from the fan. It was worth the money to me to know that it was OK. I replaced the fuse with one that has a higher amperage, and since we hardly ever use the light, it works fine. It is surprisingly quiet; in the low position (where we use it) there is no sound at all.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fan is esthetically pleasing and works well but.... The fan has very clean lines. I even like the slight angle of the blades. However, the light feature stopped working within a week after the fan was installed. When I called the warranty number I was told it was likely a fuse and they would ship a replacement. That was over a month ago and I still haven't seen it. In short, I'm not impressed...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks and works GREAT! - More noisy than the original... I picked up this fan for a room remodel. I've had the original Hunter Windward fan for years and love how quiet and reliable it has been. Home Depot delivered the new fan the next day after ordering, even though their delivery estimate gave them a week. Nice job HD! The new fan assembles and operates just like the original with a couple minor changes that are not significant. The new fan loses one star for it's very quiet motor hum when running on low speed. I suspect most people wouldn't even notice but it should be mentioned and you may want to avoid this fan if that might bug you or if you plan on using it in a bedroom. With a TV playing or normal conversation, you can't hear the hum. The original fan is absolutely silent on low speed. No motor hum on the higher speeds, only the quiet sound of air moving on the high speed. This fan REALLY moves some air!
