Does this fan work from both the remote and the wall switch?

According to my husband he followed all directions but I can't believe for the cost of this beautiful fan that the wall switch will not also turn the fan off and on. It appears that if the fan is set to operate off the remote that the wall switch does not also work. Please advise if this is not the case and where in the instruction guide we can find the directions to fix it. And thanks for your help.

Answer:
I wired the light strictly to the wall switch and the fan through the remote box. I did not want the lighting to be remote operated.

You can't have the light operated by both the remote AND the wall switch. You can only wire it to either the remote module OR the wall switch wiring. Sounds like your husband wired the fan light to the remote module as suggested in the installation instructions.

Hi Pamiam. Sorry to hear that you are having this issue. The fan should work with a wall switch, providing that the wall switch is a standard on/off toggle switch and not a variable speed control. Hi Pamiam. Sorry to hear that you are having this issue. The fan should work with a wall switch, providing that the wall switch is a standard on/off toggle switch and not a variable speed control. If you have the wall switch running to the ceiling where the fan is installed, please make sure that the wires are connected properly - there may be 2 hot wires coming from the ceiling (1 constant hot, and 1 that goes to the switch). If the fan turns on and off via the remote and the wall switch off, then that would indicate that the fan is not connected to the wall switch. With the wall switch in the on position, turn the fan on via the remote, choose any speed and turn the light on. With the fan going, turn the wall switch off. If the fan turns off, then it is connected to the wall switch and should turn back on when the wall switch is flipped on. The fan should turn back on with the same settings as last used. If you are sure that the wiring is correct, please call 1-855 HD-Hampton (855-434-2678) and one of our customer service team members can help you trouble shoot and get the fan operating with the wall switch and the remote. The manual only covers standard wiring procedures and there is not a specific section about wiring to a wall switch. Read Less

Answer:
You can just not wire the light in, but if you are coming from only 1 power switch, you can wire it through the remote and it will control both features while receive power from a single switch.

Answer:
A cover plate is not provided. That being said, I don't think you would like the look of the fan without the light installed. The rounded bottom of the fan motor is the light. Without it installed, the fan would look "unfinished". I would just install the light kit and not wire it up. The white finish of the light kit matches the white finish of the fan itself rather nicely.

Hi Diane. Thank you for your interest in the Windward IV fan. The light kit design is integrated into the fan body and therefore, there is not a non-light kit option.

I've run into situations where this ring just will not budge and I've had to use a hook to grab the upper edge of it and pry it off of the screws, but this is a last resort as it may break the ring. The ring is totally decorative and is not required to secure the fan to the ceiling. Hope this helps and good luck. Read Less

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 47 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good air movement The fan was easy to assemble and install, however it falls short in illumination- two sixty watt equivalent bulbs falls well short in a medium size room. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by love these fans We ordered four of these fans for our new home that had no ceiling lights or fans when we purchased it. These fans with lights are extremely quiet and really look nice & we love having a remote. We had an electrician install all four so can't say about the installation. The only drawback I could see is two are in a cathedral ceiling so you would have to climb a ladder if you wanted to change direction of paddles but would highly recommend these fan/light. Purchased online and received promptly with no problem. June 11, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by very efficient, quiet fan As many people said, the fuse blew upon turning the light on. Also, I mounted it right on the ceiling, and couldn't get the cap up in position. It just wouldn't get high enough to align with the screw holes. I called in an electrician ($150) and he did it easily. To be fair, I also wanted to know if the electrical box would accept the torque and vibration from the fan. It was worth the money to me to know that it was OK. I replaced the fuse with one that has a higher amperage, and since we hardly ever use the light, it works fine. It is surprisingly quiet; in the low position (where we use it) there is no sound at all. August 11, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible fan Do not buy this fan! The remote is very difficult to understand making it difficult and you can not change out the remote. June 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ceiling fan Instructions a little confusing but works beautifully. May 31, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Would give five stars except..... I love everything about this fan except that we cannot get the globe off! We installed four of them and now cannnot get any of the globes off. Four different people have tried to no avail. We have tried the tips provided by the manufacturer (we're not the only people having this problem). We're afraid that, when the time comes to change bulbs, we'll have to break the glass to get them off! Very poor design!!! May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great! High quality. Easy to install. Looks great. Great price. I recommend. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great contemporary look Beautiful fan. However, reverse switch is on top, so with 12' ceilings, not likely this will be used much! Love the sleek unobvious look of this fan! August 11, 2015
