Why not give your home a designer custom look with 2 in. solid, prime wood plantation styled bi-fold doors. These doors are ready to install and are offered in three styles, the Louver/Louver, Louver/Panel and the 6 Panel. The Louver/Louver has 2 in. slats across the top and bottom with a mid-cross rail. The Louver/Panel has 2 in. slats across the top with a beveled panel bottom and a mid-cross rail. The 6 Panel has 3 beveled panels on each of the bi-fold panel doors with cross rails separating the 3 panels. Doors can be used in interior areas of your home such as closet doors, panty doors and laundry and storage room doors as well as pass-through areas.

Answer: 
I wouldn't recommend it. The pivot holes are drilled 1/2" in from the sides and to cut the door down you'd need to take 3/8" off all 4 sides and that will be too close to the pivot holes.

can I trim down the sides 3/8" each so it will fit into a 22 1/2 X 80" opening. I can plug existing holes with a dowel and redrill mounting holes.

my opening is 45X80 and have a cabinet maker available to trim the sides and plug and drill the holes needed. i will paint the doors, so the core material won't really affect the looks unless it isnt a solid wood core. I will need two sets of doors total and need to trim each side of the 4 panels only 3/8"
