Can you remove the side plugs on these door panel rails and dissassmble these doors? Would like to make the door narrower by cutting down the center stiles and louver pieces and then assembling back together. It appears the doors are screwed together and this may be possible.

Answer:
Not easily. The plastic-type material that these doors are made out of does not cut well and the doors are quite flimsy in general. Instead of cutting the doors down, it may be better to just buy a new set in a more narrow size,

Answer:
The 18" door consists of two 9 " panels hinged together. For a 36 " opening you will need two 18" doors. Mount one on the left jamb and the other on the right jamb. The doors will meet in the middle when closed.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 120 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Looks Great We selected this door for a 27 inch closet opening. Since the door is only 27 3/4 inches, we were able to remove some interior trim pieces and install it, despite the irregular closet size. Any difficulties we had during installation related to the irregularity of the closet opening. The door looks great. The composite material makes it durable. The finish will definitely stand up better than a standard wood door. The composite frame did mean that trimming down the door to meet the irregular opening was impossible, but it all worked out. The instructions for installation were good. All the requisite tracks and hardware were included, even a basic knob. It looks great and I'm sure it will stand up for quite some time. May 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by These doors are awesome These doors were easy to install. Just measure your opening and buy the doors that you need. For me, I have an unusual opening. I thought that I would have a problem since doors are usually 30x80 or 28x80 or 24x80 or whatever. My opening is 58in. Then I thought find a door that comes in 30x80 and 28x80. It looks beautiful and no one knows, but me and now all of you. April 28, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Was not completely what I expected. Not sure if it is plastic, that's what it looks and feels like. Was expecting composite wood. August 23, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by It's a door, alright! I've put in several other closet doors that were less expensive than this brand, and this door is slightly better quality. In all honesty, I bought this door as it was the only 28" while louvered door I could find - if I were to purchase more closet doors, I would likely purchase the less expensive brand rather than this one as the quality is not notably better here. I also am having an annoying problem with the "opening" side of the door - the door fits into the track with a peg on a spring that you push down for ease of moving the door onto the track. The peg is shaped like a top hat, presumably to stop the peg from going to far into the track and dragging. However, the rim of the top hat (forgive the description, I'm not sure what else to call it) now drags on the edge of the track, causing the door to stick. A small annoyance that I'm sure can be remedied with some googling and time, but still an annoyance that I don't have with my other (cheaper) doors. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bi Fold Doors - Great Item Great item that I was looking everywhere because of the unique size 28inch, these doors saved me $1000s in remodeling cost. Thanks Home Depot July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than I expected! Love this door. I have a small master bathroom and wanted an alternative to full door as I just installed a jewelry armoire into the wall. This door is perfect! It looks great, takes up little space, bathroom is cooler from shower as louvered allow steam to scape & is easy to clean. So much nice then the skinny wood louvered doors. I love the larger 3" wide louvers. Gives it a beach feel to my new bathroom. Great door for the $. November 17, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor quality This door is cheap and flimsy. Not worth the price. Spend about the same and get yourself a wooden bi-fold door that will look and last longer than this piece of junk. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love These Doors These doors replaced very old, wooden louvered closet doors in a bedroom. Couldn't be more pleased. I never have to paint them, and they will never warp. They are also lovely to look at! June 5, 2016
