How would this product hold up to scratches?

This question is from Authentic Walnut 8mm Thick x 7-9/16 in. Wide x 50-5/8 in. Length Laminate Flooring (21.30 sq. ft./case)-DISCONTINUED

I was wondering how this flooring would hold up to scratches from furniture being moved, such as recliners, rockers and so forth. You can put padding under beds and other large stationery items, but furniture that is constantly moving like chairs or rockers concern me. I have seen flooring where the finish and color is missing where chairs were constantly being moved. I was just wondering about this product.

The ceramic (I believe) coating on this product is incredibly durable. I had to drop a very heavy hammer on it to ding it, and have not scratched it yet.

It holds up great to scratches, but to be on the safe side I would use felt pads under any furniture in the room. The heavier the furniture, like a bed or dresser, the greater need for the pads. You can always take a scrap piece and test it with a knife to see how sensitive it is to scratches. Read Less

Answer:
It is snapped together, no glue or nails required. It is a "floating floor" so you leave a small gap around the perimeter of the room to allow for expansion and contraction of the floor during various weather condition variations (cold, hot, humid, dry)

Answer:
Each box contains approximately 21 square feet. I would order 10% extra to account for waste, although when I installed this product in my bedroom I would up with very little waste. If you have a box that you don't open, you can always return it, but I'd rather have a little extra so that I don't run out and can't get additional supply for some reason.

Answer:
Step 1: Find the area of the room by measuring length and width of room.
Step 2: Convert inch measurements to decimals (ie. 3” = .25; 6” = .5; 9” =.75; etc.)
Step 3: Multiply length by width to get your square footage
Step 4: Add 10% by multiplying the result by 1.1 (this provides you the extra needed when unusable planks are encountered due to damage or mis-cuts, ect)
Step 5: Divide result by square

Step 5: Divide result by square feet contained in each carton. This gives you the number of cartons needed to complete your room.
Note: This product contains 20.3 sq. ft. per case
For example, if your room is 14’ 6” by 12’ 9”.
Multiply 14.5 x 12.75 = 184.875 (actual square foot of room)
184.875 x 1.1 = 203.3625
203.3625 divided by 20.3 = 10.01
One would need 10 cases to complete a 14’6” x 12’9” room

Answer:
It will handle spills as long as you clean them up when they happen, do not let water stay on flooring for any length of time as product will swell and start to delaminate.

It is necessary to wipe up any spills immediately. Each plank is coated with a polyurethane seal; however, prolonged water exposure can seep between the planks and cause damage your flooring.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 13 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed for the inaccurate image While the price, service, shipping was great, I was totally disappointed by the photo image on the laminate. It is not straight. (See attached picture). It is supposed to simulate 2 adjacent lumbers in per laminate board, but the width of the "simulated lumber" does not match the ones in the next laminate board. If you care the way how your floor looks, do not buy this product. If you don't care. it is a great buy. Other than this imaging innacuracy issue, other things are perfect, though, I'm going to return all these 46 boxes (1800lbs) of them!!. May 5, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not as hard of a material as I am use to edges break and splinter easily. every 3rd box on average had a bad plank that had to be used on an edge or in the pantry ended up sorting thru boxes before using to make sure a bad one did not slip in. April 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding, cost-effective product! Bought the material on a great Home Depot on-line deal. Simple to install, looks fantastic and is very durable - I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. March 12, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product looks exactly like what you see in the picture online. I love my new floor. It is beautiful and I have been getting compliments from everyone who sees it. As for installing it, I was lucky to have a friend who does flooring so for us the hardest part was pulling out the old floor/carpet and preparing the rooms but our friend did the work of putting the floor down. The price was outstanding and I feel I got the best deal. June 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing look for pennies I purchased this floor for my dining room. 18x24. It went down like a dream. I had the entire project finished in under 3 hours. The wife and I loved it so much that we purchased 2500 sq ft to do the entire house. We have 2 very large dogs and a very active 7yo and it has held up beyond expectations. Not even a mark. Extremely great value for very minor buy in. March 28, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful and really look like hardwood This floording is really beautiful and really look like real walnut hardwood. From looking at the previous reviewer's picture, seems like s/he had the pieces reversed. It is very durable and you can tell a big difference between the lower grade 25 years warranty vs this 55 years warranty. January 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Meets Expectations This was the first I've installed any flooring. It definitely takes more time than you'd think, and, easy as it is, there is a learning curve. I would order this product again. Ultimately, I am satisfied. April 16, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good, but chips easily Good product. Looks great, but is a little flimsy. You have to be very careful installing it or it'll chip/scratch. Although it says to use tools, I found it better to just do it in with my hands, and once I ditched the tools the process not only sped up, but also there was no more chipping. May 31, 2011
