Should I glue the joints when floating this floor on concrete using the recommended vapor barrier? And if yes...what type of glue should I use?

Asked by: Kylo67
To be clearer.......I'm wondering if gluing the joints will make the seams waterproof.

We are doing a kitchen remodel. Can this flooring be installed under appliances and cabinets or should it just butt up to them?

Asked by: westernteach
In needs to have spacing around wall edges to expand with wetness/ humidity changes - 1/2" recommended. Weight of cabinets or appliances on it at sides will prevent expansion and may cause floor center to warp up a bit. Also, I am not sure how well this type of flooring will tolerate the water and food spills you will get in a kitchen, as well as dropped pans & cutlery. I would use laminate for that application. It is more water and dent resistant.

do you need to put pad under floor when installing over concrete or should you glue it down

Asked by: Anonymous
You will need an underlayment with a vapor barrier. The floor is designed to float.

I considered using laminate, but it still looks like plastic. Easy to install. The only significant work is trimming it around objects like door trim or, in my case, stone fireplace. Mid room runs are extremely fast and easy. Quiet (i used 3mm foam underlay). Cons: It does not lay directly on ground if floor is slightly uneven. Concrete floor had break lines where surface was slightly raised to sides of break lines. Walking on floor, I could feel it press down a fraction of an inch as I crossed that area. Not sure if planks will eventually change shape to conform to floor. Furniture or rugs weight will probably help. Unknown: Long term wear and durability. Only time will tell since I just installed it. Dropping cutlery and other objects on left over scrap pieces does dent them a bit. I soaked scraps underwater for 48 hours and wet parts HDF expanded, but returned to original size when dry.

I've done three rooms so far with this flooring using a 2mm purple foam underlayment. The underlayment is harder to put down than the flooring - it curls, it doesn't line up easily, it tears easily. The flooring goes down nicely - locks well. Very few damaged pieces. Most can be cut to remove the damage and used as the first or last piece in a row. Because it is thin (3/8") and floating, I notice creaking here and there but I don't care about it. I grew up in a house with oak flooring that creaked more. I scratched several pieces accidentally after installation. I used Minwax oil based walnut stain on the scratch and followed up by wiping on some polyurethane spar varnish which dries yellowish. Can't see where the scratches were except one where the scratch was deep into the wood underneath and there is a thin dark line of stain. Not bad, though. Where the flooring meets tile I put down a T strip using Loctite PL375 Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive. It worked better for me than Liquid Nails Floor Adhesive which seemed rubbery when it dries.

This product is very nice to look at but I seriously regret putting it down in my house. I had it professionally installed but did not ever think it was be so noisy. I regret using the 3/8" planks for the floating floor method. It is way to thin and unless you have a perfectly flat, flat floor all over it will creak and crack and sound hollow and not just in spots. It has ruined my house. After nearly a year of searching for flooring and saving for the high cost I wound up with a creaking, popping , cracking, hollow sounding mess. I am now ready to sell and move out. Also, the Roberts green underlayment came highly recommended but it does not do a good job in creating a good foundation for the planks. If you must use this for a floating floor on concrete slab at least consider cork as the underlayment. So disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As good as advertised Had shipped to store, not one piece damaged out of 7 cases, looked better in person than on the web, installation was incredibly easy, looks great in one of my kid's bedroom, probably going to do the other two kid' rooms with it as well. Used the orange underlay and it is fairly quiet, only been down two weeks but so far I am very happy with it

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good flooring with a caution Installed in Feb 2016. Floor looks great. Easy to install. The only downside is how the floor makes a snapping and crackling sound when you walk on it. I replaced a naildown 3/8" engineered wood floor that did not make any noise with this one. I used a premium sound underlayment and the subfloor was sanded flat. I wish I knew about this before I installed 1100sqft of it. I read that applying something like babypowder to the joints will stop this. You would think the manufactuer would have mentioned this as I have done some research and found quite a few posts on this subject. The good thing is no one can sneak around at night without me knowing. I would recomend this floor but with this caution.
