Customer Questions & Answers

Can this floor be floated?

The description indicates this floor must be nailed or glued, but a reviewer said he floated his floor. Can this floor be floated? TIA.
Asked by: Anonymous
No. A slid floor should only be nailed. Manufactures have claimed you can glue them down, but that will create problems later on. The glue down method only come about because the solid wood floor industry was losing business to the engineered industry. That being said, you should only install a solid hardwood floor by the nail down method. This will relieve future headaches. If you want to float, there are options for the click or the tongue and groove gluing method used on the engineered hardwood floors.

Should there be so many short 12"-15 "random lengths in each bundle . Too many short lengths ruin the job.

Very disappointed in the finish and short lengths per bundle. Many have a blochey finish.
Asked by: Anonymous
This all depends on the floor you purchased. A more rustic floor will have an abundant supply of short pieces. Done right and with some thinking this can be a beautiful floor. A lot of short pieces can be frustrating if you were not expecting them. Next time contact the manufacture on such questions before buying. Good luck

I am extremely dissatisfied with my purchase of the Home Legend Hand Scraped Maple Saddle hardwood. However, I must say the appearance is great but that is the only good part about it... I specifically purchased the flooring not only for looks, but at the recommendation of the Home Depot sales representative for the hardness (4 out of 5) and 55 year warranty. The hardness and warranty are the worst part. Within weeks, I began to see scratches that went right through the top layer and exposed the inner material. To make matters worse, I had a rolling chair on the hardwood floor with special wheels made for hardwood (keep in mind these wheels received a thousand of 5 star ratings on Amazon) and within months the top coating of the floor began to come off. Interesting enough, I have a brother that lives in the same building and purchased hardwood from Home Depot around the same time. He has the exact same wheels on his desk chair, which were special wheels meant for hardwood. He has had no issue with his wheels damaging his hardwood flooring while mine has become discolored and torn up the coating. I am baffled to believe that a 160 pound person with appropriate hardwood wheels could damage flooring like this. When filing a claim, the independent (hmm..) inspector's report stated it did not meet the stipulations of the warranty and after numerous calls/emails to Home Depot and Home Legend, they stated it does not meet the claim eligibility. However, after further review of the Installation Instructions, you will find Home Legend basically suggests that anything more than walking on the floor in your bare feet would violate the warranty. If you can't use furniture, walk in heels, have pets, etc. on the hardwood without damaging, what is the purpose of this flooring? I dare you to read the Care & Maintenance Instructions that must be followed for them to honor the warranty. You will realize a 55-year warranty means absolutely nothing and they might as well make it a 100-year since it will never cover anything. Before you buy, check out the pictures (trust me that is not dust in the picture but rather the top coating completely removed) and ask yourself if it is worth thousands of dollars to deal with this headache?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saddle Maple floating floor I live in Florida so I got the floating wood floor. I was advised not to purchase the glue in because of the humidity in this area. I only had the floating wood installed in my bedroom I do hear a little creetch in the floor. I love the way it looks and will have the rest of my house completed at a later date with the glue in same color same brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from POOR QUALITY Not happy with the product. the boards were so different in width that the installer would not put them in. He opened about 6 boxes of the 75 we ordered and stopped. The Manufacture told HD to send back a box and they would measure it before they would replace the product. They HD employee was also told that if we reordered they would not guarantee the same issues. So much for customer service. HD had us pick another product and hopefully it will be better. This is a new home and with the delay we had to reschedule the carpet, closet systems, final plumbing connections and inspections. The movers will also have to be rescheduled.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very Disappointing If you have any pets I would definitely NOT recommend this floor. I purchased this flooring partly based on the hardness rating which was a 4 our of 5. I do have a medium sized dog and knew that she would eventually leave scratches and marks. But, I was not prepared for the huge scrapes and gouges! I had my contractor actually put a scratch in a board with his fingernail! He said that he had never seen a hardwood floor do that and even had another rep. from a different flooring company come out to look at it. He agreed that this type of floor should be much stronger and wear better than it was. Needless to say, the floor is all in and does actually look very nice - if you don't look too closely for the scratches! Unfortunately, will have to have this floor sanded and re-finished must sooner than expected.
