I have to lay down a cork insulating layer over my concrete base in order to install bamboo or hardwood flooring. Can the bamboo be glued to that type of subflooring?

Answer:
Our solid bamboo products can only be installed over three different kinds of subfloors: plywood, solid hardwood, and concrete. It must be nailed into the plywood and solid hardwood subfloors and glued onto concrete. Any other installation method, on any other surface, would put the warranty at risk.

Answer:
This solid bamboo flooring can be installed over concrete as long as subfloor preparation is conducted and an appropriate urethane flooring adhesive is used. The Roberts R1509 and R1530 are good examples of an appropriate flooring adhesive.

The directions on the flooring state to use 10d nails which I found means 3" nails. Most staple/nail guns hold up to 2" inch nails. Would I be able to use 2" nails on this flooring installation?

Answer:
Our installation instructions pertaining to our 5/8" solid bamboo products are going through a revision, where we will be suggesting fasteners that have different specifications than our current solid bamboo installation instructions. The new specification are: 6D-8D finish nails, 16-18 gauge. You can also use either T-shaped or L-shaped flooring cleats with the same aspects as the nails.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by beautiful floors! As previously stated by other reviewers...this floor is soft. We have two large dogs (60-70lbs. weims) and they have made small scratches and gouges on the floor. We went with the bamboo however because we found these floors for a amazing deal and couldn't pass it up (we bought the remaining wood we needed from home depot)! We knew going in that they were soft but we are not too worried about it because we are just going to sand them in a couple of years and coat them with a good poly. I am actually surprised at how well they have held up to our dogs. We have had them down about 3 weeks now and although there are some scratches they're not terrible. I was expecting worse. For a house with small dogs or children I think they would hold up fine. Another good thing about this flooring is that it is solid bamboo so there is the option of sanding and refinishing the floor many times. The look is beautiful and everyone that sees it complements how pretty it is! January 10, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Looks Nice I really like the look of bamboo flooring. I chose to purchase from home depot because of the price. I glued it down. It was fairly easy to install myself. The big complaint is that it marks very easy. My dogs nails scratch it very easy. If she slides on the floor and peels out it makes big long indentations. My dog only weighs 20lbs. I have to be careful walking in my heels on it also. I wish I would have spent the little extra money to get better quality bamboo flooring. I would recommend it if you never were going to walk on it except in your socks. Also no kids or dogs. Not worth the money spent. March 26, 2010
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Bamboo floor Having installed a variety of hardwood flooring in the past, I was very skeptical of the whole pre-finished, click lock floating floor idea in general. Everything I have done in the past was unfinished nail down stuff or glue down solid wood parquet. I bought a room full of this stuff and got it installed and went back to the store and bought a housefull. We have lots of heavy furniture, and sliding it around on the floor has not hurt it a bit. The only thing that I am disappointed with is the fact that T moldings, solid surface reducers, etc are not available at the store. I had to buy a different brand and modify it to make it work, otherwise I would give it 5 stars instead of four. March 8, 2008
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't have to wait six days I had to special order the bamboo flooring .. They told me that it would take 6 days to come in but it was at the store in three days . That made the project done faster . Thank you October 7, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by The good and the bad This product attracted my attention because it looks good and was only $2.29/ft. It was fairly east to install. THe boards fit together perfectly and the finish was really good. Color was a bit inconsistant so get extra and return the boards that are too dark or light. We installed a 12 X15 room in a long day. The floor looked fantastic when finished. However, 3 days later before we even started using the room, our 50 pound dog was in the room and ran across the floor. Her claws (trimmed) pushed long scratch-like indentations into the surface in several places. The finsih was not damaged but the bamboo is so soft that it's vry easy to damage and the marks in the surface are very visible. We have oak flooring in other parts of the house and we have found the oak to be MUCH harder to dent or damage than the bamboo. I would recommend the product only for people who have no dogs or kids and will be very careful with the floor. January 29, 2009
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Delivered very quickly. This was to patch 20sq ft that was installed 4 years ago. It was very easy to install and a perfect match. The old floor shows very little sign of aging. December 26, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by bamboo flooring I am glad I chose bamboo over hardwood. It looks very attractive and natural. I used over 1000 sq.ft. and the color is consistant and installation was perfect. I am glad I chose HD for this project. May 5, 2010
