Assuming that this is the HL11H, this flooring is a engineered bamboo, comprised of a layer of bamboo, a layer of high-density fiberboard, and a layer of birch to stabilize it.

Answer:
In the assumption that you are referring to the HL11H, this flooring is engineered bamboo. What this means is there is a layer of actual bamboo, a layer of high-desnity fiberboard, and a layer of birch to stabilize it. It is a mesh of laminate and bamboo.

IS THERE LESS UREA FORMALDEHYDE IN ONE OR THE OTHER? THE TITLED DESCRIPTION OF MODEL #HL11H, DOES NOT USE THE WORD "ENGINEERED", WHEREAS THE TITLED DESCRIPTION OF MODEL #HL13 DOES USE THE WORD "ENGINEERED". WHY IS THAT? CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT THE PRACTICAL DIFFERENCES ARE?

Answer:
Both products are engineered. Each product has a hardwood veneer over a core. HL13 has a multi-ply core whereas HL11H has an HDF core. In addition, these products vary in total thickness. HL13 is 9/16" thick; HL11H is 3/8"
Each product is GreenGuard GOLD certified and therefore meets the same criteria for VOC emissions.

Other sites selling similar products mention the necessity of an "under layer." I plan to use this over an outdated linolium floor in a rental property. Do I need to put something between the linolium and these boards?

Answer:
Although not required it is recommended to use a quality underlayment. Underlayment provides many benefits such as sound reduction, moisture protection, comfort and helps to minimize minor sub-floor imperfections.
Detailed information of specific underlayment’s can be found at the underlayment manufactures website.

The chart for HL11H indicates the product comes unfinished, yet the sample definitely has been finished. Is the information here correct?

If the floor does require finishing after installation, what is the process and what additional products are required. Also, there is no indication as to the age of the bamboo used. Hardness is indicated as 2 out of 5, so I am assuming it is young [under 5 years] not mature bamboo. Is that correct?

Answer:
This product comes with a UV cured polyurethane finish on it, just as the sample indicates. All of our bamboo is aged between 3 and 7 years.
