Answer:
Yes. The 1/2" has a different build-up the the 3/8" flooring. There are more factors than just floor thickness as to sound though. I would recommend going to the manufactures website as they are very informative.

Answer:
No; sounds from the flooring are a result of stress in the joints of the flooring, as it is walked on. These factors are determined by the amount of flex that the flooring is allowed to have. Using the flattest planks available, proper staggering, and a sturdy underlayment system would ensure the minimal amout of sounds possible.

Customer Reviews

Rated 2.9 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Run away from this product as fast as you can! We have had our flooring in for less than a month and we HATE it. It seems that looking at it will cause it to scratch. If you live in a museum-like atmosphere with no pets and don't walk on it, you will be fine. There has to be something better out there. Big mistake on our part. March 4, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful finish but be careful of scratches My builder installed the flooring without problem. However, we found a number of scratches and gouges on the floor which was not completely covered with construction paper subsequent to installation. The area that was gouged had to be replaced. Stain pencils can be used to hide small scratches. The wood is rated as very hard but the finish is not thick so can be scratched easily. Since it is engineered hardwood, it cannot be refinished. I would not recommend in a household with dogs, and care must be taken (as with any hardwood floor) to avoid bringing in rocks or sharp objects which could come in contact with the floor and scratch it. Also, the floor, while beautiful when clean, shows dust and debris very clearly against the dark surface, necessitating frequent cleaning. November 12, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not the Best Choice Flooring I've had this in my home for 2 years now, and while the color still looks great, it really is an easy floor to damage. I make everyone take their shoes off when they come in, so typically there's only furniture (other than feet) that touch the floor. No kids, no dogs, no high heel imprints. Flooring under dining room chairs (with felt pads on the bottom of them) has half-moon impressions in it where chairs move around when people are sitting in them. The other day I dropped a hard plastic liner from the garbage can on the floor and it dented the floor in two places where you can now see lighter color through the dents. Some of this may just be "what you get" when you put down a wood floor but for the money I spent on this, I wish it was lasting longer. If you want durability, I would not recommend choosing this floor. As a side note, I had HD install this. The installer that HD farmed this out to did a great job but I had to be the one managing the flooring materials from HD since the flooring sat at the store for 3 weeks before I had to call and find out what was happening and had to get them to schedule the installer. Lessons learned - manage your own projects, don't rely on HD, they're just too busy. March 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic! We absolutely love this flooring! We used the bubble looking moisture insulation underneath& it was so easy! The floor warmth compared to our tile in the house is much better and we are going to replace all our carpet with this flooring. Make sure you buy the saw tool to cut the door jams & fit the wood underneath them it looks much better. We painted our baseboards we were installing first and then simply touched it up after nailing it in. Less of a hassle for painting with the wood floors down. Both our toddlers are enjoying their wood floors & a simple steam mop is the easiest way to sanitize it after sweeping up the loose dirt or dust. Hope you enjoy it as much as we have for the last year! December 22, 2011
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Store sample different from actual flooring We were very disappointed because the flooring we received was not the same as the in-store samples. What we received was not 1/2 ", but closer to 3/8". It was also not constructed the same. When we took our sample and a piece of the actual flooring to our local HD, the flooring person agreed with us. She finally reached a HD technical rep who said that the store samples had not been updated. We liked the color and style of the Maple Saddle, but not the quality of the 1/2" engineered. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Too much noise We bought this wood but 3/8 inch thick for about 700 sq feet. After installing, the wood looks gorgeous, especially the color. However, it makes too much noise when walked on. The noise is some type of creeking sound between the planks. It is not the subfloor and defeinitely not the underlayment. We left enough extension gaps around the edges and corners for the wood to expand or contract. Do not go with the click lock, stay with the solid if you want durability. February 29, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful flooring This product is great!! Looks great and installs very easily. Hard to beat the hand scrapped look. December 21, 2012
