What is a recommended stain to use on stair treads to accompany the flooring

I purchased unfinished maple treads to install along with this floor and was looking for a recommended stain which would match the flooring.
Asked by: TheKop
Any Autumn colored stain looks best, also colonial Maple stains look great also but you will have to put two coats of stain to match this wood if using colonial Maple

Does this have a lot of color variation?

I know that natural acacia can have quite a significant amount of variation in color in the boards. This seems to be stained, and seems more uniform. store sample shows this as well. but in the end, these are small samples. can you confirm if this tends to have a lot of variation when installed in a room, or is it more subtle? thank you!
Asked by: Happy
We think it is subtle and that the color looks rich.

I am very happy with this floor so far. being a dark color shows more dust then light colors. it just means I clean more. it is a extremely rich looking floor. was going to put down throw rugs but at this point don't want to cover up the wood.

Just so everyone knows, The Tuscany hand scraped hickory is a nice solid product. There are some down sides to consider. First, the finish is very uniform....so the distressing is not distinct enough to easily hide mistakes and blemishes that will occur from everyday use. The blemishes will stand out but can be softened by touching them up with stain. The finish is hard but will still get marred to some extent from pet toenails as well as rough treatment. But this is to be expected. The boxes arrive with only 4 lengths in a box. There may/may not be a 4' length in the box. You can count on every box having mostly 24" lengths and a couple of 20" and 28" lengths. So, in a smaller room that will be mostly covered by furniture, this is not so much of an issue. But in a larger room, the 4 lengths will tend to show joints that are in close proximity to each other. The planks are in pretty good shape and you can count on very little waste. The depth of the hand scraping is not very distinct, but it is present. It would be helpful if the distressing and chatter marks were a bit more distinct.

It was easy to put down and looks beautiful. It's been down for over a year now and has performed very well. We have 2 kids and a 10lb dog with very sharp nails and there has been MINIMAL scratching/damage. We have a few "dents" here and there but that's from dropping large objects(mostly in the kitchen). We have been impressed for a 3/4" wood, bargain-priced product. I would use it again knowing that our family is very considerate that they are walking on wood. We have "inside" shoes. If you think you are going to treat hardwood like carpet, you are better off getting laminate. I did NOT give this flooring 5 stars because I would not expect this to be an "excellent" product with regard to what it is(wood)and it's price-point.

But I wish there is photo of backside to show the wood treatment. The wood feels light than I was expected. The on-line purchasing experience is great. The return to store option is very good, helping to make the decision to pull the trigger. I certainly would recommend the on-line purchasing. Whether or not one likes the product is personal preference.

I had read the reviews before buying. some were not good but most were. One review complained about "worm holes". Those are not worm holes. They are part of the distressing process to make the product look hand scraped as advertised. I have installed plenty of hard wood before, just recently an American oak product. This hickory was harder and more dent resistant than the oak. The 4 plus inch width made it a pleasure to work with. I installed 220 square feet of this last week and only one board out of 12 boxes had a slight color defect. It was like a dark spot. I just installed that piece in the closet. this wood is very light in weight compared to oak but harder. as a result it will flake or splinter if your not careful. Use a good finish blade on your miter saw. I used a 15.5 gauge hard wood floor staple. I had to set the compressor around 85 lbs. Went in very nice, and looks great. Again better than last years oak.

Had to reload and return to another store (Local) the next day causing a MAJOT project delay and reconfiguration!
