Answer:
Well, each type of underlayment seems to have their own selling points. Some tout their product as being quieter, but I've never had a problem with noise and I used the cheapest 25 cent per square foot 1/8" foam underlayment rather than the more expensive foam underlayment.

If you are on concrete, or perhaps any first floor application, you need to think about underlayment with moisture barrier. If you are on a second floor, moisture is not a big concern, but noise may be. I am not sure what the best answer is for the second floor but I use Black Jack there also and it does a great job on muffling the sound of a hard floor. Just make sure to get any squeaks out of the subflooring before you lay the underlayment....also check for any low or high spots that need to be addressed....floor leveling compound for concrete but fixing low spots in a wood subfloor can get expensive depending on the cause and the size of the affected area. If its not a serious low spot on wood subfloor, you can just slide in a custom fit piece of BlackJack in the low spot. Read Less

Answer:
The answer to your question depends on what purpose you want the underlay to serve. If you're looking for cushioning or insulation, polyethylene foam would be best. If you're looking for anti-fungal, anti-microbial, cork would be a great choice. If you're seeking anti-water, it could be from either of the aforementioned choices. As long as the underlayment used is designed for that purpose, and is not Read More

Like laminate flooring this product has an HDF core and will respond to negatively to moisture. For areas of the home that are have more likelihood of experiencing moisture, it is recommended to use a joint sealant during installation as an extra layer of protection.

Answer:
I suppose you could glue down the flooring, but it would be better to install it on top of underlayment/subfloor (with a water barrier) and some space along all edges so that the floor can shrink and expand with changing temperatures.

I don't know why you would want to glue it down. It doesn't matter what kind of floor it is, you can float an engineered hardwood floor over concrete easily and safely, as long as it's the click lock variety of engineered hardwood. We did this in our family room, which is on a slab, 6 years ago with no problems. Gluing would be something I would want to avoid, it can be messy as well as harder to Read More

We did this in our family room, which is on a slab, 6 years ago with no problems. Gluing would be something I would want to avoid, it can be messy as well as harder to uninstall. However, even click lock engineered hardwood CAN be glued down if you want to go that route for some reason, as well as nailing or stapling it down on a plywood floor. But I think the floating floor method with the click lock kind of flooring is a very good method of putting down engineered hardwood, and it's much easier than gluing tongue and groove type flooring. Make sure you get a click locking product if you want to float the floor. If you get tongue and groove like solid hardwood has you will definitely have to glue it. Read Less

Hi there Kera,
You can indeed. This isn't always the case for engineered though so be sure to double check on the product and manufacturer before proceeding with it unless you're using this product, in which case you're good to go!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Looks great, scratches easy We had this installed a month ago and it is already scratched. Luckily, I wanted character, so this is not an issue for me. Looks great!! August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it We installed this floor this past weekend (we used 3 1/2 inch wide panels, which are now discontinued, but otherwise, it's the same product). I don't usually take the time to review products, but it was so easy to install, and it really looks gorgeous, so I wanted to share this with others. We put a ceramic click lock floor in the foyer, and it was SO much work...this floor was a breeze, even fun to install. One thing I love is that the wood has a wax coating to protect it. I spilled my water bottle while insalling, and it just beaded up on the wood. The wax is a great barrier and will help it last. I would definitely recommend this product. January 28, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fabulous Look My husband, myself and my young preteen son installed this flooring yesterday in our family room. It was so easy to install! Prepping the floor took the longest time. The best part was it was more than worth the cost. We were fortunate to get it for $35 a box on sale. This flooring looks great and the engineered wood allows multiple choices of installation. Much better than the look that you get from laminate flooring. Definitely would recommend. April 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by From Dull to Dynamic - HomeLegends Floors I have wanted wood floors for years and outside sources have always been too expensive and I thought the process was daunting but, after watching the DIY videos for Home Depot's Home Legends click and lock engineered floors, we did it ourselves. The transformation is amazing! And it was easy. All you need it right there at Home Depot - flooring, Best Underlayment, moulding and thresholds. The overall cost was half the price of professional installers... the results are fabulous. June 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I'm glad I chose this product. I was fortunate that I was able to order the first 16 boxes online and have my brother pick them up. We needed 1 more box to complete the 2 rooms we were laying new floor in and my husband was able to pick that last box up. We live in a 200 year old farm house and the existing floors were beyond repair. It continues to be a work in progress and the $$$$ would go far to reach our dreams of finishing this old homestead.
