Hardness Rating

The wood on display in your stores has a hardness index such as 3 on a scale of 0 to 5. What is the hardness rating for this wood?
Asked by: Will
Not hard at all. Scratches MUCH easier that I thought it would. Just installed in in 4000 sq foot home with regrets. Go with ceramic tile that looks like wood.

how thick is the "wear layer" or the vaneer?

Asked by: nilo
Since this is real wood, it would be an actual wear layer, unlike laminate flooring systems. This means you can 'lightly' refinish them throughout the life of the floor, something that you could never do with laminate. Joseph

How thick is the wear layer?

Asked by: Pamela
The wear layer thickness is not published. This product is protected by a 7 layer aluminum oxide polyurethane finish to protect the flooring. Care should be taken to reduce abrasive material from shoes and flooring to prevent damage (scratches, etc.) to the flooring. Samples are available for order online for your personal evaluation; use Model # HL-484404

How thick is the top layer?

Asked by: Anonymous
Its about 2 milimeters or so. The finish is pretty tough though, it is reasonably resistant to scratching. Heavy heavy traffic or big dogs will eventually scratch though. Drop anything heavy enough to make it through the finish and you pretty much go through the top layer though. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask more questions.

Hand Scraped Tobacco Canyon Acacia 3/8 in. T x 4-3/4 in. W x Varying Length Click Lock Hardwood Flooring(24.94 sq.ft/Cs) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 211.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy installation and great value This is the 7th floating floor I have installed over 15 years. Engineered floor have improved over this time period. This is a good choice (3/8") because it has a thicker top veneer and could be repaired (sanded) if needed. The installation needs basic DIYer tools. I usually use the cheapest underlayment, but if your budget can stand it, upgrade to a 3-1 underlayment. It goes down easier and gives the floor a more solid feeling. I put together a generic how to that can be used and answers a lot of questions. click on:

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice This is the second time I have purchased this grade of engineered flooring. Every once in a while I purchase less quality flooring and figure "its good enough" and every time I am wrong! This stuff is wonderful, easy to install and of excellent quality. All of the locking prices were absolutely perfect, making the joints look great. I am a wood products engineer by profession and a wood scientist by education, so I have a lifetime of study of these kinds of products and I highly recommend this one.

The coordinating trim pieces finish off the job well and are very reasonably priced. The material is very consistent and positively locks together. Color on the 1220 square feet that I installed was uniform and consistent. Durable product that will provide years of service- made a big difference in the look of our home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it We installed this floor this past weekend (we used 3 1/2 inch wide panels, which are now discontinued, but otherwise, it's the same product). I don't usually take the time to review products, but it was so easy to install, and it really looks gorgeous, so I wanted to share this with others. We put a ceramic click lock floor in the foyer, and it was SO much work...this floor was a breeze, even fun to install. One thing I love is that the wood has a wax coating to protect it. I spilled my water bottle while insalling, and it just beaded up on the wood. The wax is a great barrier and will help it last. I would definitely recommend this product.

I am very happy with the color and variation in the the boxes. 2. I am very unhappy with the variation in lengths with in the boxes. the site says random variation in boxes. 11 boxes opened each box had the same amount of each sizes in each box. The biggest disappointment in this is each box only had 3 full length boards. I have not started the job yet and will give further input .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful floor This was our first floor of any kind that we attempted to put down. We used Black Jack underlament which went down easily. The installation of the Maple Sedona went without a lot of difficulty, especially after we had a few rows in place. The color is beautiful, rich honey and carmel color. The natural grain of the wood and natural variations of each board make it a unique and beautiful floor. I would recommend this to anyone. One tip, if you are able to get to Home Depot in person to choose your floor, it will give you a much better idea of the true look of the product. The picture on the web site does not do it justice.

Ordered 3 boxes of this flooring and one of the boxes had a strong yellow tint and heavy grain on all the flooring pieces. I ended up using those pieces for cut ends and in the corners, because I didn't want to go through the hassle of ordering another box online (isn't carried in store). The color was completely different than the other two boxes and from what I ordered. Disappointing....
