If I use the glue down method, what type of glue do I use? Do I glue it to the wood floor boards or the tongue and grooves?

Asked by: LAURALOU
I would only recommend the glue down method if you are installing over concrete. it is very messy, expensive, and the glue basically has to be entirely used in one day or it will harden (even in a covered container). If you do use it, you spread it on the slab or subfloor, not the flooring.

Should or can you put bamboo flooring on a cement slab

Asked by: Anonymous
I've only just installed mine, but here in Texas it is installed straight to the slab with the sealing adhesive recommended by HD. My slab is several years old, so even in the midst of wet winter the water content was only 10%. On a new slab you may want to wait a couple months or so to let the slab's water content to down significantly so the flooring and slab are both low moisture content when installed. The floor is not cold, my other concern before installation. If the slab cracks in the future and water seeps up, the strand woven bamboo is supposed to be much more resistant to moisture than wood because it is full of resin which is impervious to water (not to say, though, that the product is waterproof, cause it's not). If you have a recent slab with modern design, like post-tension or piers, you probably have little to worry about. On an old slab, a design infamous for cracking, it may still work out fine. Cracked slabs will wreak havoc on tile, stone and wood, too. Even carpet can get mildew from wet cracks, so the flooring choice is only your secondary problem with slab faults. My opinion is that the strand woven bamboo will prove to be a good floor glued down to the slab. Even in an old house where the floors are not even, knowing that old houses have their imperfections, I'd probably still do it.

Is this a good flooring choice for a bedroom?

Asked by: Anonymous
This flooring can be installed in a bathroom, but to answer your question, no. Because of the fluctuating termperature and humidity levels that are common in a bathroom, and because of bamboo's increased tendency to react adversely to these conditions, it would involve a higher level of maintenance to keep the bamboo stable. Cork and laminate would be better choices. If bamboo is a must, go with the engineered click, rather than the solid.

Does this require a special gun and special staples if nailed down?

Asked by: alangski
No, the installation is the same as any other hard wood floor install. Make sure your nailer maintains the correct PSI throughout the install. Good luck.

How does it rate for denting? Would this be a good choice for a kitchen?

Asked by: Anonymous
dents pretty easy, everything that I have dropped on it has dented it, as well as rolling of my refrigerator and install of my range. The (empty) fridge actually made indented grooves the size of the wheels.

Horizontal Toast 5/8 in. Thick x 3-3/4 in. Wide x 37-3/4 in. Length Solid Bamboo Flooring (566.16 sq. ft. / pallet) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value for the money While time-consuming to install, was well worth the effort. The only reason I would not give it 5 stars is there is no lot number on the boxes and there was some variation in color from lot to lot. In fact, one box had boards with different lot numbers in it. I opened all the boxes and made sure the boards were scrambled while installing so I would not get blocks of different colors. It produced a somewhat variegated look which I like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Flooring at a Fraction of the Cost This bamboo is beautiful! And it costs a fraction of what other hardwoods and even new carpet would cost. It matches well with pine and oak fixtures I have stained and finished to a similar color. The shipment arrived quickly and the delivery driver was very friendly and helpful. Some tips he told me: Make sure to acclimate the wood (we acclimated it for a day and a half). Unpack the pallet and bring the boxes into the room where it will be installed; unwrap the plastic off of each box, and stack it so air can flow around each box (I have attached a photo of this). The boards are packed nicely; I found no damaged boards through all the boxes. It was easy to install; I rented a hardwood floor nail gun. I recommend renting as these will cost several hundreds of dollars new, and Home Depot also does not sell the L shaped nails recommended for this floor (although I did not check to see if they had them online.) Where you rent the nail gun will likely have nails. Another thing you will need is a rubber mallet and some scrap wood to hammer them into place before nailing. Some wood glue to do the last couple rows as the nail gun will likely not fit against the wall. A table saw or a handheld circular saw will do nicely to cut these down to size (I used a circular saw). A jig saw, hack saw or bow saw to cut contours around where vents, etc. will go is also necessary. A small handheld one will do the trick. We had two people install, and it took us about 10 hours of work to do about 480 square feet. Remember to purchase underlayment as well. Also, alternate pulling boards from 3 or 4 different boxes as you lay them. There is some variance of color (not a huge variance, but natural variance a la hardwood) between boxes, so pulling from different boxes as you lay will ensure the boards are distributed randomly. Also, be sure to watch the product for pricing. The price decreased about a week after I placed my order; Home Depot is very accommodating to price adjustments during the return policy timeframe.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Bamboo! Flooring was fairly easy to install. Hardest part is staggering cuts & weighting it down after install to ensure flat finish. It looks great--entry, dining room & kitchen all done in the Toast finish. Only negative is that it is very SOFT, so it is not forgiving if you scratch it. Otherwise, looks great & a DIYer can do it! Be sure to get your transitions and quarter round. Suggest buying extra in case of miscuts. You won't be disappointed with this floor--appearance is superb, maintaining is easy with Bona floor care products. Looks great, warm, reflective glow. Even blends well with our real oak stair treads and custom kitchen cabinetry!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful looking bamboo This flooring is very attractive. Installation was fairly simple, with boards fitting, tongue and groove, nicely together. Very few flawed boards. Home Depot was helpful with our selection to putting it on my truck.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Installs well, looks beautiful, BUT... This is a beautiful looking product. The problem is, even after carefully following the instructions regarding conditioning the wood to the installation area, after a few months, in one area, it started cupping. Now it's happening randomly in many other areas and is getting quite noticeable. This is not a very stable material. It's also a very soft material. If you drop a TV remote from coffee table height, it can dent it. It's not a surface suitable for a kids playroom or bedroom... they will ruin it. Even adults need to be very careful to never drop anything on it. I think it's a good value for the short term, but if you plan on staying in the house for a while, it's just not stable or durable enough. In retrospect we wish we had gone to a higher quality material, but were seduced by its good looks and low price. We installed almost 1800 square feet of the stuff so our buyer's remorse is pretty intense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value at the per-pallet sale price We used 18 ga. cleats to nail this to the subfloor, using a pneumatic-assist nailer. We used both table saw and miter saw to make the custom cuts that were needed. There is some color variation both within and between boxes on the same pallet, but nothing extreme. We followed directions, opened several boxes and selected boards at random. With all of the boards exactly the same length it takes a bit of planning to avoid having a stair-step pattern develop as you lay the floor, but we didn't find it a problem. Our boards were straight, we had no "blems" in the form of dings, tongue damage or whatever. It's probably too soon to tell if the floor will suffer scratches or dents, but we've minimized the possibility by buying those little stick-on felt pads for all the furniture feet.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worth the price. I am an experienced flooring installer and installed this floor in my own home. I am happy with how it has held up over the last 3 years and it still looks great. I get lots of compliments on it. Installed this floor a few times before putting it in my own home and had trouble with the planks moving apart from eachother over time causing gaps between. I glued each tongue and groove joint as well as nailed it down and it has worked out great. my only complaint is how soft it is. Drop a fork in the kitchen, dent. Dirt on the bottom of your shoe, scratch. Good floor all in all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from machining is excellent ,high quality finish My second purchase of Bamboo flooring. I was impressed with the quality and durability . If you have a little carpentry skills it is not difficult to install , go slow and clean up as you go or you will spend a lot of time cleaning up adhesive. The cost is half that of other outlets. Looks great and wears well, did not find any splits or broken pieces every piece was useable. I would not use in wet area like kitchen or bath
