Customer Questions & Answers

Can this product be used over concrete without installing subflooring?

Asked by: Anonymous
This solid bamboo flooring can be installed over concrete as long as subfloor preparation is conducted and an appropriate urethane flooring adhesive is used. The Roberts R1509 and R1530 are good examples of an appropriate flooring adhesive.

What type of glue do you recommend, do you tap or roll?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi there harley, The adhesive you will use for this job is the Roberts 1408 Urethane Wood Flooring Adhesive. You will be troweling out the adhesive, using a tap block to lock the pieces in and then a 75-lbs roller to roll the flooring immediately after installation.

What is the best way to clean this floor? The mop/cleaner recommended by Home Depot and the installers leaves dirty splotches.

There are mop lines all over and it just looks terrible and never looks clean. What do you suggest? Can I put a low gloss hardwood floor wax on it?
Asked by: Anonymous
DAILY MAINTENANCE: 1. Sweep dust mop or vacuum your floor regularly to remove any particles that could cause abrasion or scratch your floor. CAUTION: Vacuums with a beater bar or power rotary brush head can damage a floor and should never be used. 2. Use a damp mop to remove spots and soil. Apply appropriate cleaning solution to the cleaning cloth / mop. Do NOT apply directly to the floor. • For lightly soiled area, clean with distilled water. • For moderately soiled area, use a mild solution of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. Isopropyl alcohol is commonly referred to as rubbing alcohol and is sold in 50% to 70% concentrations. This product should be diluted by mixing one part alcohol and 2 parts distilled water. • For tougher spots, use a higher concentration of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. • For extreme cases, a solution of nail polish remover and distilled water can be used. HINT: For best results, clean the floor in the same direction of the planks. When the cleaning cloth/mop becomes soiled, rinse or replace it with a clean one. Following up with a clean, dry cloth will remove residual streak marks and spots. 3. Do NOT leave any amount of liquids (water, juice, soft drinks, spills, etc.) on the floor. Clean any wet spots immediately. 4. Do NOT use a steam cleaner. 5. Do NOT use a wet mop or douse floor with water or liquid cleaners. Liquid can seep between the cracks and cause moisture damage. 6. Do NOT use any cleaning agents containing wax, oil or polish. Left over residue will form a dull film. 7. Do NOT use steel wool or scouring powder which will scratch the floor. 8. If none of the above are effective and you choose to use a store bought product, test the product in a non-conspicuous area (i.e., closet, corner, or scrap pieces) for potential adverse side effects.

Hello eddard and thank you for your question. The Home Legend Strand Woven Cherry Solid Bamboo Flooring (Store Special Order SKU# 182-164) is beautiful! I spoke to the manufacturer; they recommend using the direct glue down method for installation of this solid strand woven flooring for best results. Is there a lighter color for this product ?

Asked by: netbuyer
Lighter colorings of strand woven bamboo are available; however specific flooring modals are not available in shades. Maybe consider Model HL214 Strand Woven Spice or HL217 Strand Woven Cherry Sangria.

Can the bamboo flooring be installed over a cork padding?

I have to lay down a cork insulating layer over my concrete base in order to install bamboo or hardwood flooring. Can the bamboo be glued to that type of subflooring?
Asked by: Anonymous
Our solid bamboo products can only be installed over three different kinds of subfloors: plywood, solid hardwood, and concrete. It must be nailed into the plywood and solid hardwood subfloors and glued onto concrete. Any other installation method, on any other surface, would put the warranty at risk.

Solid cliq or Tongue & Groove

The sample I picked up from the store with this Model and SKU number is solid 9/16 cliq that can be floated. The description on the site sounds like glue down tongue & groove. Which is it?
Asked by: Anonymous
This flooring is a solid click bamboo flooring. If you have Home Depot install it, however, they can only glue it down.

can this be used as wainscotting ?.What glue used? Will weather effect wood/glue during minus 30 degree temp during winter when cabin not heated ?

Asked by: Anonymous
We do not recommend the use of any of our floors for wall paneling, or wainscoting; we would not warranty it being installed that way. Also, the flooring's potential to expand/constrict increases the farther outside of the recommended temperature range (between 60°F to 80°F) it is kept in. We would not recommend our products in non-climate controlled environments.

Strand Woven Cherry 9/16 in. x 4-3/4 in. x 36 in. Length Solid Tongue and Groove Bamboo Flooring (19 sq. ft. / case) is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 40.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks nicer than we expected - makes noise I installed a 12 X 14 room with this product and I'm really pleased with the look. I was concerned that it would look like a cheaper laminate when installed, but I think it has a much richer look. Installation was quite easy with a power compound mitre saw to make the end cuts. I highly recommend this and note that a table saw is nessesary for the first and last rows. My floor is far out of level, and as a result this floor makes noise when I walk on it. It has a soft crackle to it. I actually pulled the whole thing up and put down a more expensive underlayment to see if that would help. It may have, but only slightly. I think I would have to completely level the floor with leveling cement to eliminate the sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product; smaller boards I'm so happy we didn't listen to some of the reviews on here in regards to the scratching. We installed this beautiful floor in a matter of hours. It was a first time installing hard wood -- the laminate floor boards we normally use are a lot larger so we were a little surprised when the boxes arrived. But they were still easy to install. We have three year old twins, cats and dogs. Needless to say, the kids can certainly be less than gentle with their toys on the floor and there have been no scratches. I tried to scratch a spare piece and eventually did, but it was a challenge! Love this floor and it looks so beautiful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful flooring! We installed this flooring ourselves in our living room and kitchen, approximately 600 sq ft. The quality of the product is fantastic, but you do pay a premium for that quality. Installation is very simple. We used the premium 3-in-1 underlayment on a concrete slab. We started to glue the pieces together in high traffic areas and in the kitchen. A couple of things to note. The floor will make creeky noises but that seems to minimize after time. We have one area where the floor dipped down somewhat and we get flexing and more noise in that area. Gluing the pieces together with tongue and groove adhesive would have probably prevented that. The bamboo is VERY hard so your table and miter saws will take a beating. Mix up the boxes sufficiently because the colors can vary but the variation actually makes the floor look very nice. It doesn't scratch very easily but it won't look perfect forever. It wears very well and is fairly water resistant. I LOVE my floors and would buy this product again in a heart beat. The only thing I would change is that I would glue all the pieces together. Our floor has been installed for 4 months.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEAUTIFUL FLOOR!!! The previous reviews were confusing to me when deciding on this product because some of them state that they're really soft and can scratch easily. I believe other consumers are confusing the strand woven, solid bamboo floor (this floor) and the standard bamboo hardwood floor (not strand woven). This solid, strand woven floor is incredibly hard and scratch resistant. We've only had them a month or two, but the floors were uncovered during the remainder of construction (oversight by our contractor) and stood up to work boots, cabinet install, appliance install, etc. without any major visible damage. And now we've been living with them and our little dog, and they still look great. Plus, unlike the engineered or standard bamboo floors, these floors can be refinished over and over again. The eco-friendly aspect of this particular floor was also important to me...to know that trees aren't the source for this floor, but the bamboo plant which regenerates over and over again is great. I am thrilled with my purchase, and look forward to seeing it last for years and years to come.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing Waited a year to write review-not sure y there negative reviews regarding the durability? I took hammers and knifes to the number of samples I had mailed and picked up from home depot. The engineered Bamboo Walnut was the best. Unless you take the tip of the knife and scrape directly to the floor it doesn't scratch. Read another review said it was cheap and looked faked? The planks are solid and very heavy. When you get your sample I recommend CHECK THE PROFILE! MAKE SURE YOU DONT PURCHASE THE VANEER! You want to look for a solid piece that is slightly blended in color. Thats the flooring you want to buy. We have two Rodesian Ridgebacks 80-100lb dogs. Zero scratches on are floor. If your concerned about dogs these are the floors to own. We were concerned about the wear from them-which is y we only covered the master bedroom before we decided on the living/dining room. We are finishing these rooms this month will re-post another review after another year. Only problem with floor is you cannot steam mop and light colored hair(from the dogs) shows. Easily sweeps up. Floor will creek and pop until it settles in was about 4-6 months.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality/appearance awesome Installed this product in our new home covering over 1200 sq ft of flooring including the stairs. Overall we are very pleased with the look & quality, however there were some setbacks along the way. The instructions in each of the boxes indicated this was a floating application & not to glue or nail this floor down. After contacting the Home Legend directly they indicated the wrong instructions were placed in all 69 boxes I ordered and they emailed me the correct installation procedure which indicated floating or glue down. Home Legend highly recommended the glue down application so this is the method of installation I used. My floor has no squeaks or noises of any kind as indicated in other reviews where this was installed as a floating floor. I will say the glue down application is very messy and be prepared to toss out some old clothes once your completed. This has taken me about 2 months to complete this 1200 sq ft job with a staircase and minimal help. Not hard to install but very time comsuming. Overall we are extremely pleased with the result but if we ever do this again I will hire someone to do the work!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High maintenance floor avoid dark colors! The flooring is beautiful but noisy and very high maintenance. The dark color shows all marks and scratches easily. Less than one week after install and already multiple scratches. Had I known this I would have opted for lighter color. Installation is in basement so really not a big deal but would not recommend for high traffic areas. We will be getting area rugs and investing in a sharpie marker to try and cover the scratch marks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful flooring with rich color. I chose this floor because of the color and texture of the wood. And also for the hardness level, which is 5. I picked up several samples at Home Depot and I hit each of them with a hammer. This flooring didn't dent at all! I needed it quickly and HD delivered it quickly. My sons laid the 16' X 20' floor in 1 1/2 days. Since it was just put in a week ago, I don't know how it will wear in the long run. If it gets too scratched, it can be sanded and refinished twice. Definitely worth the money!
