Customer Questions & Answers

Are the quarter rounds absolutely necessary for this product?

What is the purpose of the quarter rounds? I plan to have this flooring installed over concrete foundation, floating, and will cover the edges with baseboard.
Asked by: Herb
You can buy pine or composite 1/4 round and paint it the same color as the baseboard. Much, much cheaper, you can buy it in much longer lengths so less cutting fewer joints, and you will never notice the difference in the way it looks.

Does this floor have an attached underlayment?

No, it does not.

do I need to take it out of the box and acclamate it to the room for a while? How long?

Asked by: jamie
No as it is engineered flooring. But if you want to "be safe" probably just a few days.

is this hand scraped floor going to impact levelness of furniture sitting on it?

I'd like to use in a bedroom. Will the bed's feet need steadying?
Asked by: Anonymous
It added a nice texture, but did not impact how level my furniture was.

This product was on sale and we loved the color and texture so we jumped at the opportunity. Buyer beware...there is no guarantee you will get a box of full-length boards. We were surprised upon opening our first box that there were a couple of full length boards mixed with shorter length boards. This may be fine if you don't mind random-length installation; however, anticipate more planning if you would like an established pattern or purchasing more boxes. The installation instructions state, "Each box can contain all full length boards or a combination of full length and shorter boards." This information is not stated on the outer product packaging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great flooring, great value! My husband and I bought the Home Legend wire brushed forest trail hickory for our weekend cabin and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and ease of installation. Only a handful of boards out of 11 boxes had minor imperfections like light color spotting or slightly damaged edges. The installation was super quick only taking about 2.5 to 3 hours start to finish for 200 square foot space. That time included sweeping, rolling out the underlayment, taking flooring out of packaging and laying it down. Each piece locked into the previous piece beautifully. We will definitely consider buying this flooring again for future projects.

The only downside is a low dent rating isn't the same as kids dragging furniture around. Shows wear and tear much more than the scraped dark hickory we have in most of the house. Looks a bit darker in the rooms due to the grain which we like. The brushing helps it to feel warm even in the winter--albeit we are in Texas--but also feels a bit like there is dust under bare feet. Definitely wouldn't recommend in more high traffic areas, better to have scraped/distressed for those. All said we like this enough that we are going to put the grey one in the master for our last decarpeting.

We installed it in the master closet for a more sophisticated look. I have installed Home Legend click lock before so this time it went in even faster. This product is very durable and stands up to our large dog. I gave it 4 stars due to not having matching quarter round or t-moldings and customer service for Home Legend lacking. I contacting them about recommendations on how to match the quarter round and t-moldings and they told me Home Depot could color match the stain. HD laughed when I asked them if they could match stain. They can match oil and latex based paints, but not stain. So, I set out on my own to find something that was close. I ended up using Minwax oil based stain in Classic Gray (271 color code). I put on one coat to pine quarter round and then hit it with 000 steel wool once it was dry. This took some of the shine off and dulled it down.

The boards have many tones in them, from beige to gray. What I love most about this flooring is the entire color palette is light so even with the different hues, the overall look is fairly monochromatic. No dramatic color differences like acacia. We installed 400 + square feet and had hardly any bad boards or waste. Easy to install! No complaints!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far looks fantastic I read the reviews on here and took a chance on a few good ones and was very pleased with the outcome. I didn't have a huge budget with flooring so I found the color and texture I liked the best in the store and pined over it for a while. I don't usually leave reviews but hoped mine would help someone with a budget. I'm not sure what "real" wood flooring differs from this, as some reviews called this laminate. IT looks like wood, feels like wood and even smells like wood. A thicker wood flooring like this would cost 5.99 a panel ad opposed to 1.99. We have done one room and it looks fantastic. NO damaged peices. A bit of a creeky sound with good sub-flooring, but less after we ripped out the flooring from before and put this in. The click lock was a charm, boards cut nice and the final product looks beautiful! It gives the look of a slightly rustic hardwood for a price that won't murder you. The wood is durable and has great texture. Best part is, its wired brush texture can hide from animal scratch imperfections. If you are looking for a budget hard wood, don't be afraid! It looks amazing!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent given the price. This is one of those products that, when installed well, looks like you spent twice as much as you actually did, so it is an excellent choice especially if you need to replace a badly worn floor to ready a house for sale. I feel I should clarify some of the other comments I read, which caused me to strongly reconsider before going ahead with the purchase. 1) This IS an engineered wood floor, NOT a laminate. 2) The backing on this flooring is not plastic, it is a wood product. I have the feeling some of these other reviews are for a different product. 3) My brother recently built a house and had very expense ($10/ft) solid hickory flooring installed. At some point a friend wearing sneakers traipsed over the entire floor not knowing he had a small piece of gravel embedded in the tread of his shoe. As a result, the floor was pock-marked with hundreds of small indentations, similar to what one reviewer shows happening on this flooring as a result of high heels. Now of course, being a solid floor, my brother could have the whole thing sanded down and refinished. You can't do that with this flooring obviously. But I can practically guarantee that when my brother does choose to refinish that floor of his, it will cost more than $1.99/sq ft to do it. The lesson here is that ANY wood floor, regardless of cost is going to be much softer than, say, cement or stone tiles. You DO have to be careful with any wood floor, regardless of price. This flooring seems to be reasonably durable for average residential use. Use care and common sense and you should get many years out of it.
