Overall this is a very nice looking pergola. If you are handy you can make one yourself for half the price. This achieves a very nice look without having to do any of the wood working yourself. Easy to follow instructions and predrilled pilot holes makes assembly a breeze. I suggest using a finish nailer instead of trying to hammer the supplied nails into post trim pieces. Not worth buying one just for this project but if you have one use it. My only regret is not getting the 10x10 but I wanted to be certain it would fit with roof overhanges and deck edges. I assembled this unit by myself with only getting help to hold one side up while I put two beams across. A second helper would make it a lot quicker and easier.

There were a lot of parts in the kit but the structure turned out beautiful. Some of the pieces were not straight and some compensation had to be allowed for the slight difference in the final product.

This pergola was purchase and built by my 17 year old son for his Eagle project. The instructions are clear as he was able to understand them and provide direction to other people (most 14-17 years old) in the construction of the pergola. It was very clear and very beautiful.
The only thing I would do would be to stain/seal the wood before construction. Being his Eagle project, he heard us say this but did not do it. It would have made his volunteers life so much easier to do this ahead of time.

The product seems to be OK, but the overall experience was not. I am working on a patio project and have contracted help. I stained the whole pergola before assembly, only to realize we were missing several large pieces (7-8). I now need to pay the contractor for a full extra day of work, causing me to go way over budget.
It is crazy that this simple mistake could be made.

My experience was not that great. I received the pergola and proceeded to stain the entire thing piece by piece. I hired a contractor to finish my patio and put the pergola together...only to find out the box delivered was missing about 7-8 big pieces. I now need to wait an extra week and pay the contractor for an extra day of work.
Does this happen often?
