The only good feature of the Stainstick, is the ease of loading it. Other than that, it is pretty much useless. The pads fell off the bottom during the staining process. I have a 3-level, 750 sq ft deck. By the time I got done with the upper level, my back was broken from having to bend over to use this thing. I suppose if you are three feet tall, it would be ok. I didn't even bother to wash it out. I threw it right in the trash. There is no way to control the rate of flow of the stain, it makes a sloppy looking job. Had to keep going back over what was already done to make it look good. I'm going to get out my old Wagner DeckMate and finish the job!

The worse product. The head of the stick that is supposed to paint between the deck boards.. Does not stay stationary no control how it works.

Purchased StainStick to touch-up the deck at beach. Contacted HomeRight to make sure I understood the instructions, since I would not have time for research once I got started. Cus Rep assured me I was doing everything correctly per written directions. When I asked about the difficulty in pulling the tube, she suggested Vaseline as a lubricant. As I later found out, the cure-all for this product is petroleum jelly. They should include it in the product box.
I spent 2 hours trying to draw stain into the tube. I lubricated and re-lubricated. I just made a mess, I had stain on my arms, legs, hands and dribbles on the deck. Also had an abundance of Vaseline on everything! But not one plank stained. The StainStick rings became distorted and no way to re-align them. I finally learned my lesson, headed to Ace Hardware, for paint rollers, and spent the rest of the day refreshing my deck the way I've done it for years.
I spoke to HomeRight customer service 3 times. I should have gotten a clue from my first call, the Rep said that the StainStick did not work as well as the PaintStick, but if I used the Vaseline, I would not have a problem. I did have lots of problems, and the rings needed to be replaced, These rings are not sold at HomeDepot and probably not easily replaced if I had them.
On my call today to HomeRight, I offered to send my stick directly to them so they might see what issues I encountered. The Rep said they sold thousands of the product and I should return it to HomeDepot. There was no discussion about my dissatisfaction or even sympathy from their 'customer service'. I have no doubt that I will get my money back, from HomeDepot, but I will definitely not buy another HomeRight product. I will also pay more attention to the customer reviews and much less attention to the videos and demos on the product.

When I started using this applicator to apply my deck stain I thought it was the greatest thing. It applied just the right amount of stain and I didn't have to keep going back to a tray like I would if using a roller. I got about 3/4 of the way through my first coat and the applicator fell off of the stick. I was not happy. I went to my neighborhood HD to try to get a replacement and they don't carry them in the store. Very disappointing.

Easy to assemble, easy to use. My sister and I stained my entire living room, dining room and hallway all by ourselves using this stain stick. Worked perfectly, made the job so easy and we finished within a couple of hours. Gave me exactly the look on my floor that I was looking for. Comes with an extra pad set that we did not even have to use. Perfect DIY tool. We had absolutely no problems with it at all. Plan to use it on my mom's floor also.

I used more labor with this than I would have with a regular brush. It would not fill properly with the deck stain; only a small amount at the bottom of the tube, then it would loose suction when trying to fill the tube further. I managed to put one coat on the deck floor, then threw the applicator in the trash. I plan to finish the job with a regular paint brush.
