Customer Reviews

Calabria Metal King-Size Bed-DISCONTINUED is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great concept, poor implimentation As can be seen from the photos, this is an antique style metal bed frame that is made in China and shipped around the world in two boxes. One box contains the side rails, three cross beams, and six interior feet. The other box is contains the headboard and footboard. Assembly is par for the course; and the finished product looks, at first, great. Upon further inspection, however, it tends to fall short. Welds, particularly on visible elements on the footboard, are of a poor quality. Sloppy with voids and splatter. I wouldn't give the bed a two-star rating based upon this one item, but a potential purchaser should be aware of the issue. If you want something that will pass a close inspection this is not the frame. But it wouldn't annoy me. Of a more serious problem is a fundamental flaw in the engineering of the bed.The dimensions of the bed do not match a standard king sized box spring. A standard king box frame is 76" x 80"; unfortunately, the interior space between the insides of the side rails is 78". Likewise, the interior length between the headboard and footboard is approximately 84" (measurement varies due to a problem identified below). While box spring sizes vary, on mine this means there is a 1" gap between the edge of the box spring and the interior face of the side rail. The side rail itself is 1" wide, resulting is a 2" obstruction on the side of the bed that is quite ugly and prone to kicking in bare feet. Because there is no other mechanism to prevent lateral movement of the box spring, the foundation is also likely to slide laterally 2" during movement in the bed. Even worse than side-to-side is parallel to the side rails (e.g., head to foot). Not only is there a 4" gap in this direction too, but there is no bar to block box spring movement at the headboard end. Coupled with the dimensional difference in that direction and the lack of a mechanism to secure the box spring to the bed frame, the box spring slides all over the place. So, if you measure your box spring and it is a non-standard 78" x 84", you're perhaps luck with the exception of the headboard issue. Otherwise, it is a nice bed frame once assembled that will have you wondering how to get it back in the box to return to your local HD. Note on photos: I've verified both the length and width of my box spring, due to the angle of the photo it appears the gaps may not be as cited above.
