Bought the Homelite Cultivator and assembled it at home. Easy assembly. We tilled 2 raised bed - 9 x 12 and 8 x 20 - both beds had sifted soil so we just needed to mix in leaves and compost and softed the soil to make the beds ready for planting. The cultivator initially ran very well - nice and quiet. However after 3 hours of usage the tiller began to make a terrible noise - sounded like a bearing was gone - checked the cultivator and nothing was caught up in it so we returned it. The staff were great and exchanged it for another one. We got the new one home and found that one of the tined wheels was not manufactured correctly and wouldn't go on the drive shaft properly. We returned this one and that was enough for us - poor quality machining and poor quality control from the factory. I wouldn't recommend this brand of cultivator to anyone.

I was pleasantly surprised by this great little machine. Easy to assemble and use, and lots of power to rip out the sod left by the white grubs. After two days I was almost finished the lawn when the gear box gave out. Great return policy so a few weeks later I bought another one to finish the job, hoping that the first one was a lemon. It didn't last as long before its gear box seized up so it too got returned.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by KopyKat This thing is KILLER!
I just tried this little workhorse on our garden and it is incredible!
The secret to using this thing is all in the user and im not sure why this thing has any bad reviews unless the people don't know what they are doing.
Like another reviewer said, set the stake correctly and then if you really wanna hit that 8-10 inch deep mark you should pull it slowly towards you while rocking it and letting it really dig in. I practically made ditches in my garden using it this way!
Excellent product IF used correctly and still really good even just using it normally with no technique!

It is not 12 amps, but 8.5 and it says so right on the box. This is a very hard working little machine. I was afraid at first that it could not do the job that I wanted it to do. But, it went right to work and really impressed me. I am chomping away at the back lawn and it mostly moss and rocks. These kinds of things do not stop this machine at all. It really likes to work and I am glad - because I don't. Don't let the tiny motor turn you off. It is a great little performer and easy to use. And, even easier to assemble. No tools required at all.

8.5 amps chews through a lot when you use a rated extension cord. Our garden is 200sq ft (10 x 10). It took me 15 mins and I let it dig down to around 10".
I've rented gas tillers for years - no more!
NO LAG, NO OVERHEAT!
This was an excellent purchase!
It took all of 5 mins to assemble too.

We went about 5 steps with this machine in sandy soil, within an area that was gardened a couple of years ago but was (cut) weeds. It stopped working and smoke came out of it. We took it back and got our money back.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by chazinLR An amazing little machine!
I was skeptical of purchasing this machine due to the fact that our entire backyard needed to be tilled for levelling and new sod, and the soil in our area is clay and rocks. This amazing little machine tilled to a depth of 6-8 inches without much effort on my part, other than trying to keep it under control while it churned the soil, and didn't want to stop. The slate and quartz rocks were no match for its outstanding tilling abilities, but did struggle a little if a tree root was encountered. Easy assembly, easy operation, maximum outcome!

I received the tiller. It is a replacement for a gas tiller that I've had for years. The out-of-the-box setup was very easy and took less than thirty minutes and required no tools. I used it and was satisfied with the results. In comparison with my gas tiller, this unit is much easier to maneuver. The unit does overheat and at one point during the project I saw smoke. The unit will shut itself off and can be easily restarted once it is cooled. For the money, it's a decent deal.
