It depends on the size. It tilled up my garden that has not been tilled since at least 4 years, but it does need a bit of patience when it encounters resistance.

I tilled hard original soil with a different 8.5amp tiller. 2 passes was enough. Just keep clearing rocks.

Hello GoldiB. If the ground has not previously been broken then this cultivator is not made for your job. This unit best performs on ground that has been tilled before. If your yard has been previously tilled then this will perform shallow cultivating to remove weeds at 7-3/4 in. tilling depth at up to 200 RPM. Avoid working the soil when soggy or wet. I hope this helps. Thanks for reaching out to us.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to Use, worth the price Made my life easier when working in the yard through hard Virginia rock and clay. Easy to use and lightweight. June 7, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by electric cultivator Great power, front end kept flying upward instead of grinding the dirt apparently not enough weight . took me 2 hours to do a 4 x 6'section. Ugh. June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great machine This was the fastest machine next to my lawn mover to assemble. Worked great and was down in the dirt working like the larger tillers I rented, but was not dragging me around the yard. It was a breeze getting around my garden without damaging the plants. I am very glad I found this tiller. Doesn't take up a lot of space when I'm not using it. Also nice and quiet. can use it anytime before 11 at night. June 1, 2016
