Good idea , bad execution, first unit broke the first day out of the box.. HD service desk took it back and I went home with a replacement , one year later unit came apart again, black handle and motor housing connection is too flimsy and weak. Tried to find new motor housing , no longer available ,.
Don't waste your money and time on it . HD should dump Homelite !

I have an older Homelite articulating/extendable hedge trimmer that is beginning to wear out. I ordered this one when I thought I had lost the old one one on a youth mission work trip. Although this new one does not extend or articulate 90 deg, I find it more useful and managable. It is lighter weight, shorter, and has a bar handle, thus more useful for smaller shrubs (like small podles), for reaching out and up over your head, and is easier on the back/sholders/arms. I like the leaf scraper fence - it really works well in removing the cuttings. Because it is sharper (newer), easier to operate, and has the fence, the work is much faster with the newer unit.

I just bought this after reviewing many different types of pole trimmers. After reading many reviews, I decided to buy an electric corded pole trimmer since they sounded like they had the most power for the price. I put it together in 5 minutes and trimmed my 12 foot arborvitae hedge. I had extended the pole and it was pretty heavy so I shortened it and it was very manageable and still reached up quite high. I was very pleased with the performance and surprised that it cut through some of the thickest branches! I would definitely recommend this!

The unit performs well, when it works. The extended reach pole helps in trimming wide or tall bushes. However, the poor construction hobbles this product. First, the lock on the on switch failed, so that one either had to hold the switch down the entire time while cutting--painful for the hand-- or tie the switch down. Finally the entire handle tore off the device. Because it actually broke the part of the main casing where it is screwed in, it is now unrepairable, unless one puts in a lot of effort.

I had high hopes for this trimmer but the quality just isn't there. The top handle is a bit flimsy, but the real problem is with the extension handle; it is simply a poor design that comes loose and will only worsen with time. I agree with the post that mentions the non-locking trigger as well. For maximum reach on a big hedge while working on a ladder I need to be able to lock the trimmer on, and this trimmer doesn't allow that. Save your money.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by jrumple Product works very well...cuts well, is light and is easy to use.
While I am please with the product and it works very well, it would be nice if it had a built in extension of up to 6 inches in the handle. That would aid in trimming large or tall bushes. It would also be nice if there was a lock on the trigger that makes the trimmer run. It is somewhat difficult to hold the trigger on while trimming across large bushes so locking it in run would be a help.

Used it 3 times and the motor burned up! Owned it to long for homelite to do anything about it! No more homelite for me!

Extended reach on hedges four feet wide and eight feet high very helpful. More powerful motor would be a plus.
