Bought this chainsaw to replace my garbage Poulon 42CC chainsaw...they both must have copied the worst of each others chainsaw designs. This chainsaw stopped running after about 20 minutes of light use. Primer bulb stopped pumping fuel and the gas cap spewed fuel all over me. Seemed like a good deal at 149 bucks but it cost me more to return this and drive around to find a decent chainsaw than if I would have just bought a decent chainsaw to begin with. Dont be tempted by the price of this paper weight to think that you will be getting a deal...its not. At least I got a killer back workout trying to start this chainsaw over and over and over again.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JR Very Disappointing Purchase
Since new this saw was very difficult to start. Will not start after it has warmed up - until the next day. So your only choice is to fill the tank run until it's empty and pack it in for the day. Have only used it four times since I purchased it 11 months ago and would not recommend this product as it is very difficult and frustrating to use. Had an Echo chain saw previously for 36 years and had to get rid of it because I could not get parts for it any longer. My brother in law next door has a Stihl, which is a serious tool unlike this Homelite product. Do yourself a favor, spend the extra money and get something like the Stihl or Echo products that will start and restart when you need them to.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BigAl Buy a Carb Adjustment Tool!!!
All 2 cycle small engines today are factory adjusted. Purchasing a Carb tool will save you many headaches. Also never use any gas w/ethanol in it. It's the main reason for 80% of all engine start and run troubles. All the problems I've read about on any 2cycle almost always points to the carb and/or the fuel or both!!!!

Bought the 18" home lite around a year ago and used it a total of 2 hours max. Won't run and shop told me it needs a new carburetor. Total pile of junk. Please buy another brand and save yourself a headache.

This is the second Homelite Chainsaw that I've purchased. The first one lasted several years. The price was excellent and even has extra accessories included.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cosmo712 decent saw
The saw was ordered to help me clear some tree damage caused by recent storms, I initially had trouble starting the saw, but it was my fault for not priming it correctly, at worst it now cranks on the second or third pull. I used it quite a bit the first day and plan on sharpening the chain, but found it quicker to switch to the extra one included.Since then I have used it quite a bit and have had no issues, I used to work in the hardware industry and I know Husky, Stihl and several others are better made, but also designed for daily use. I typically cut for 5-10 minutes and haul while it cools. I have not had any heat related issues. I would grant it 5 stars but my case came in broken up, (shippers fault, says "fragile" in big letters on the side of the box) and it has been several weeks since I contacted HD about it. The saw works so I can't be too upset.

I've owned two Homelite gas chainsaws over the past 40 years and they have always run & cut well. Proper maintenance & fresh fuel are the key! My latest, a 42cc W/18" bar works great! I got a carb adjusting tool on the internet because from the factory the carbs are adjusted a little too lean to run well (Government Regs). Good saw, great price!
