Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Will Discontented with string trimmers
I owned a Homelite string trimmer for years, but the newer trimmers I have had the opportunity to operate have all left me in discontent including my new homelite purchase. They are set to factory specs with tamper proof carburetor adjustments and will not run properly in northern Illinois climate. I also do not like the clutched string head. The head will not operate ate lower RPM'S for light trimming.

String replacement has improved significantly. A lot easier now then two previous units I had over last 10 - 15 years. The length of the string has been reduced to about 12 feet from previous 15 feet which require a bit more frequent string replacement. Overall, good unit. This is my 3rd unit over last 12-15 years. Good value for money.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PapaTom39 EASY TO ASSEMBLE, EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR A LIGHT WEIGHT TRIMMER!
My wife was preparing for a baby shower for a great-grandbaby, and said she wanted me to tidy up the front area of our yard... Home Depot is nearby and Homelite gas trimmer was my first choice. Name brand quality, easy to assemble and trimmed the sidewalks and flowerbeds quickly! It surely made good points for me with the Lady of the house!! Super-satisfied!! I'm Happy with Homelite!

Starting cold... After going through all the steps and running this thing for at least 10 seconds I flip it to full and It stalls.... After that... It refuses to start... so I pull the plug and go through the bs it get it started again. Sometimes I can keep it running if I keep pumping the throttle at half choke and sometimes it actually runs on full... but only if the idle speed is cranked up. I never know if it will work or not...when I go to use it... very irritating. I don't have the time this thing requires to just do some trimming...
Wish I would have returned it but I thought it just needed some run time.... Ha ha stuck with this junk now.

Spool technology is junk. Still using my Home-lite from 1994. Where do these engineers come up with this.

Right out of the box, it was easy to put together and get up and running. It has plenty of power for around the house. The engine started almost immediately with no problems and ran extremely smooth!

Simple assembly, lightweight, starts easily, simple to restring.
Only negative is it's loud. If I was younger and had good hearing, I'd wear protection.

I've had mine a couple years now. Usually takes 5 pulls to crank. On mine, pump the primer 4-5 times, set choke, pull 3 times, turn off choke, pull 2 times and it runs. My previous trimmer (same model) lasted 2 years, so I expect this one to croak any day now. I'm not a pro lawn guy, mine is used about 30 minutes a week, for 8-9 months of the year, and is stored in the garage or shop when not in use.
The trimmer works fine, takes down the weeds and grass with little effort. I use the Ryobi .080" premium spiral line in it with no issues.
