Customer Questions & Answers

Dad bought homlite 26 CC trimer last week only put gas no oil mix, it ran for a while and stopped now it will not start , any ideas

Asked by: Hector
what you have my friend is a classic case of piston melt down that when you run a 2 stroke with straight gas and no oil in the mixture its important to mix oil in with the gas because that only way to lube the engine by design in the end the piston overheated and cause the ring land too melt in turn the results is no compression which is important too design on how 2 stroke operate

This is my 3rd Homelite curved shaft trimmer. 1st one I got 14 years service. 2nd one I got 10 years service. Really think I would have gotten longer time on 2nd trimmer, but the ethanol in the gasoline plays havoc on the fuel system. My new trimmer will use only ethanol free, engineered 93 octane fuel @$4.98 qt. Folks, you got to take care of your equipment and in return it will take care of you. Great trimmer! Starts fast and is dependable as the day is long. Highly recommend! Love the new reload on the line spool. Definitely an improvement. Hope this helps someone make up their mind.

I've owned this for 2 years and it was strong at the start. However, after 2 years of regular use on a small lawn (trimming, edging, etc.) the power started dwindling and now it won't start. It has spark, air, fresh fuel, but it appears to have lost compression. Online research indicates this is a common problem and replacement parts make repairing cost prohibitive. I'm going to try a Ryobi next and will probably get the extended warranty. These entry level gas trimmers seem to have a life span of 2-3 years so we'll see. I wouldn't recommend this one though.

Product worked great for one year, then never wanted to start again, no matter a new spark plug, new oil/gas, took thirty pulls to get started. Pure junk, better off pulling it out by hand

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seems fine I killed my corded electric trimmer in the thick weeds that grew up this winter. I was debating between a more expensive electric when I saw this gas trimmer. I only use my trimmer two or three times a year, so I was interested in spending hundreds of dollars. It is so much better than the electric. Bigger cutting area, and more power. I'm sure it is not as nice as the big name expensive ones, but for around the house, it worked perfectly. I bought some premixed fuel as well, and was running within minutes.

I debated about an electric trimmer to replace my old electric trimmer and then I settled on this Homelite trimmer. Bad mistake. The preloaded line was all used up within 15 minutes of trimming leaving me with a frustrating attempt to reload the line from unclear directions and then once that was figured out the head jammed up and would not allow line to run out. I finished my trimming with the aid of a neighbor's Worx 18 volt battery trimmer. The end result a 30 minute job took 1 hour and I took the Homelite back for a refund. What to buy now? Maybe I will just fix my old electric!
