Spool technology is junk. Still using my Home-lite from 1994. Where do these engineers come up with this.

I've had mine a couple years now. Usually takes 5 pulls to crank. On mine, pump the primer 4-5 times, set choke, pull 3 times, turn off choke, pull 2 times and it runs. My previous trimmer (same model) lasted 2 years, so I expect this one to croak any day now. I'm not a pro lawn guy, mine is used about 30 minutes a week, for 8-9 months of the year, and is stored in the garage or shop when not in use.
The trimmer works fine, takes down the weeds and grass with little effort. I use the Ryobi .080" premium spiral line in it with no issues.

This trimmer worked ok for a couple months until out of knowhere, the trimmer head locked up. We cannot get it to work. We will be calling the warranty number to see if we can get it repaired but I never heard or experienced this in a trimmer. Not happy

Right out of the box, it was easy to put together and get up and running. It has plenty of power for around the house. The engine started almost immediately with no problems and ran extremely smooth!

Starting cold... After going through all the steps and running this thing for at least 10 seconds I flip it to full and It stalls.... After that... It refuses to start... so I pull the plug and go through the bs it get it started again. Sometimes I can keep it running if I keep pumping the throttle at half choke and sometimes it actually runs on full... but only if the idle speed is cranked up. I never know if it will work or not...when I go to use it... very irritating. I don't have the time this thing requires to just do some trimming...
Wish I would have returned it but I thought it just needed some run time.... Ha ha stuck with this junk now.

Primer bowl broke on third use. Cutting line reload is tough to do, must remove head and feed manually. When hot, hard to start - I bought new from HD. Use Premium fuel if it won't start, the mixture has to be perfect. NO ethanol. Has decent power when it runs. You will build big shoulders starting this junk. Look elsewhere.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Will Discontented with string trimmers
I owned a Homelite string trimmer for years, but the newer trimmers I have had the opportunity to operate have all left me in discontent including my new homelite purchase. They are set to factory specs with tamper proof carburetor adjustments and will not run properly in northern Illinois climate. I also do not like the clutched string head. The head will not operate ate lower RPM'S for light trimming.

It was easy to put together, but near impossible to start. I cannot start it myself. My husband has to come out and start it for me every time. Even he cannot get it started when using the instructions to start it in "start" mode and has to set it to "run" to get it started. It is almost as heavy as my mower, and the vibration is makes is really extreme and hard on my hands. It does a fair job of actually weed-eating, but it's not really worth the trouble. If you are debating this trimmer because it is so affordable, don't get this one. Pick a different trimmer.
