The B&D trimmers I have chopped more than cut, leaving lots of ragged ends. This cuts very cleanly on all the hedges/shrubs I use it on: lots of rose-of -sharons, 100 ft.+ of thick mature privet hedges along both street facing sides of my yard, etc. Haven't had a problem yet. Especially like the HedgeSweep---outstanding idea more trimmers should have. My only criticisms: No lock for the handle switch and the hand guard should be clear. After 3 seasons it's still going strong and the only maintenance it gets is spray oil on the blades before/after each use.

Hedge trimmer is powerful enough to do my mature shrubs, and the "teeth" are far enough apart to where you can trim a good sized branch/stem, without having to let the trimmer "chew" it in two. My only complaint is the same as several people have already mentioned...you have to keep constant pressure on the trigger...there's no "lock" that keeps it in the "on" position...after a little while my hand starts cramping.

A good inexpensive hedge trimmer. Assess your requirements before buying. This trimmer can manage medium thickness bushes with ease.

I replaced a trusty 5 year old electric hedge trimmer with this unit. I bought it for the large length and branch size ability. While it was great for "trimming" my whimpy evergreen hicks yews, when I got into actually "cutting" back some older Spirea, it didn't last very long. Did I jam it up once or twice?? Yes, I always do. Did I exceed its branch circumference? No, because you really can't. Did the clutch burn out and make a grinding noise under heavier cutting? Yep. Do I chase down the 2 year warranty from a service center across town or do I just buy another $40 hedger? I'll buy another hedger, but with a different name.

The hedge trimmer is just what I needed. I only use it for light touch up work which the HOA landscapers miss. And a few hedges that they are not responsible to cut. At the special price I paid of $25 you cant go wrong.
