Is the battery replaceable? If so where is it located? I have Model UT44170. Works well but doesn't hold a charge very long ( have to keep the charger engaged with a extension cord).

Answer:
No, not really. I opened mine after it died. The battery is basically hardwired. Furthermore, I searched for the battery "pack" and didn't find a replacement.

First of all , I do not own one of these, but I do anticipate getting one so this is mostly basic information.Basically any battery operated rechargeable item can have the batteries replaced.Think of a cordless phone or cellphone. With sealed units like this trimmer, it is just a matter of removing the screws that keep the outer body halves together to reveal the type of battery that it requires.Someone at the factory installed batteries in it when it was made,so you just need to open it up to see what type they are.Unplug the old ones and remove. There will always be a number on the battery to identify the type and a voltage number as well.Often the trickiest part is getting the halves back together once you install the new ones.Just be careful as to how any wires and the switch go back in. I just did this on a very old rechargeable weed eater.Do a seach on the battery number or check one of your local battery outlets and I can almost guarantee you will find a replacement! Open it up! You were going to throw it out anyway , so what do you have to lose?P.S. The tool manufacturers don't want you to know this, so you will go out and buy another one! Good luck. Read Less

7.2-Volt Electric Cordless Grass Shrubber is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT AND HANDY PRODUCT Super easy to put together, great to work with, the larger one can only be held for so long, before your arms get tired, this is easy to handle, and works great. Would recommend to others, super buy, great price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Such a little trimmer does such big jobs Love this little hedge trimmer. It is perfect for keeping my little planter shrubs neat.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No charge Never was able to use. It held a charge for less than a minute. Don't waste your money.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from poor power supply After two seasons of light trimming, about ten to twelve separate times using it, the battery holds only enough charge to cut the smaller branches (it used to easily cut ones twice the size) and is good for only about five to eight minutes before it gives out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Battery can not be replaced Bought this 2 years ago. I only trim the hedges once a year, have a preference for electric items for ease of maintenance but they didn't have any in the store. Loved the wt. of this since I'm 70 and have weakness in my arms. I could trim the hedges around the backyard fence and a couple in the front with 1 1/2 charges -I would run the battery down before storing it. It worked fine the first 2 years but this year the battery will not hold a charge and it can not be replaced. Will buy a corded one now, unfortunately, they all weight twice as much as this one but can't see throwing away a perfectly good item every couple years because it needs a new battery.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy this, terrible battery life I bought this believing it was like most rechargeable units, plug it in and let it charge up. That worked fine for the first year then died. Awful unit.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from You wont get very far with this I have cut the power cord on my corded trimmers on accident more than once. I thought having a cordless trimmer would be a great idea. Unfortunately, the power is drained so quickly that using this for anything other than the very smallest area, it requires a recharge within minutes. I tried to use it on a small hedge, leaves only and thin branches, and it was not able to do the job, again, almost immediately needing to be recharged. The blades were not very sharp either. I would recommend getting a corded electric shrubber/trimmer, and just be sure you don't chop your cord.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Battery Unavailibility This product worked well and was light weight enough for my mother, who is in her 80's, to use. After about a year of owning this product and using it intermittently during the growing season, the battery stopped taking a full charge and drains down immediately after disconnecting from the charger w/o even using it. Looked for information on replacing the 7.2 volt battery. Can't find the battery at the place of purchase or information on-line about changing out the battery. I didn't buy this product to dispose of after not even using it less than a few months. Dismayed and disappointed over the power supply issue for this unit. Currently looking for something similar and light enough for my mother to use. Anyone have any suggestions?
