Answer:
no, when I started to install it, I noticed that the bar was bent, and also chain had chips in it. Thanks to Home Depot customer service I was able upgrade to a new homelite 14 inch saw. I really like this saw, and works great.

Hi Mickey, We usually recommend bar and chain oil for lubricating the bar and chain. Motor oil is not recommended in the manual for this tool. Hope this helps.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 103 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It works and leaks! It works and leaks! I cleaned a backyard and I saved a lot of money August 9, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not sure refurbished is the way to go Purchased on line and had shipped to the store. Arrived in a box that was saturated in oil. Oil was also coating parts of the chainsaw. The salesperson at the store where I picked up said that it was probabbly shipped to me in the same box that it was returned for refurbishing. Really? Home Depot couldn't afford a new clean box to ship it to a new customer? Didn't give me a lot of confidence in my purchase. The chainsaw wasn't assembled even though in 'assembly' instructions in the manual it just said 'unpack'. I had to assemble the blade/chain myself. The jury is still out on whether purchasing a refurbished unit was worth the small amount that I saved. October 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Could not be more happier with this purchase. Chainsaw worked great for what I needed to do, cleared my backyard of old fruit trees and large overgrown shrubs. Made ease work of felling an 8" diameter apricot tree. Chainsaw is easy to handle and use, I would recommend this product to anyone. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The chainsaw worked better than I imagined. I was able to trim back some trees that were about to lean against my home and also cut some bigger branches from other trees in my yard. I had no problems with this saw and would recommend it to anyone who needs a chainsaw for occasional use. It suited my needs perfectly. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It worked great for my needs. I was only cutting small branches. October 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do not purchase this You are not buying a REFURBISHED chainsaw. There is ZERO refurbishing done! This saw came to me as a filthy mess!!! They hadnt even bothered to wipe it off. This is merely a returned item they cannot sell as new but they refurbish NOTHING!!! Very disappointed they would bother to ship this item. October 17, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by The Saw cut very smooth with the New blade which was included. Not sure what the word re-conditioned means other than the new blade. The condition of saw wasn't that good; the AC cord was pull halfway from the saw handle body, and the string attached to the oil cap won't stay connected. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by wasnt sure what to expect I wasn't sure what to expect with a electric chainsaw, but this thing is super! Just be sure the nut that holds down the bar is TIGHT as in take a pair of pliers and crank it down. then you won't get the problem that others describe on here about the chain coming off. Every few cuts I simply give the chain adjuster and the hold down a quick check to be sure they are tight and I was able to cut half a day only stopping to refill with oil. It doesn't seem to use an inordinate amount of oil like others have described. September 29, 2016
