Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by abc123 Best mower I have ever owned!
I bought this on clearance at Home Depot for $599. Brought it home and was very nervous about the reviews I had read after I had already purchased it. The next day I filled it up with oil and it started on the first pull. I did not have any problems with the Roto stop like others have experienced. The cut is amazing and the mower is very quiet. My only two complaints that I have about it is that it is rather heavy so it is hard to pull backwards easily and the position of your hands feel somewhat unnatural. When I was done cutting my lawn my wrist actually hurt. I am 38 years old, work with my hands daily and I am physically fit.

I do not like the variable speed drive. It is too hard to maintain a constant speed. I would upgrade to cruise control for my next lawnmower.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bigrock My blade stop works great.
It says not sold in stores but I bought mine at a summer clear out of 599 in MI and used the 10% making total 539. Not bad on a $700 dollar mower. Really nice velvet cut on lawn. My first Honda and with a five year warranty. The blade stop function is awesome. You can let go of bar and remove twigs without having to pull again. The select drive can get real fast almost running but I found a nice speed. I am adding a bit of sta-bil 360 in my gas can from now on because ethanol free gas is too hard to find.. I am definitely going to do the things Honda recommends like fill up after each mow not before. Hope to get a lot of years and sick of buying the 350 cheap ones every five. BTW, my eight year old can handle this so another bonus.

This lawnmower came out of the box, ready to run. I merely adjusted the handle bar, added the oil supplied by the manufacturer, gassed it up, and I went to work on my lawn. This is not the first Honda lawnmower I've purchased (the last was 7 years ago) so I knew all the tricks. This mower has several enhancements over my old mower. It starts up immediately and produces a nice, clean cut. Only one minor complaint....it's a little hard to maneuver in tight spaces. That said, this is a top of the line self-propelled mower - and I got it on sale!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RTR GREAT MOWER FOR THICK YARDS
I have a thick Zoysia lawn which is difficult to push a mower through. This self propelled mower reduces the mowing time and does the pushing for me. The dual action blades do a great job of reducing the size of the clippings too.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dustin Now my kids can mow!
I decided to spend a little extra for a good quality mower. So far I am quite happy. It always starts with one pull, and I love the feature where the engine can keep running without the blades while you empty the bag. With our old mower, if I had my kids mow, I continually had to go out and start the mower for them every time they emptied the bag.
I also love the features of being able to mulch some and bag some. you can find the sweet spot where you don't see a trail of grass and you don't have to empty the bag as much.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by EdinTexas Like this Model Better Than the Hydrostatic Cruise Control
I tried for weeks to get use to the Hydrostatic Cruise model. I really wanted to like that mower. But after having a Toro Personal Pace for 15 years, the switch was too difficult. I just couldn't get use to holding three handles. Pinched my finger on more than one occasion too. So I took Robert @ Honda advice and picked up this Select Drive model a couple days ago. I tried it out yesterday and like it much better. The Select Drive is more like the Personal Pace for ease of use. I like being able to keep both hands on the handle and control the speed with my thumbs based on the terrain I'm cutting. With the Hydrostatic Cruise model, I had to either remove one hand off the handle and adjust speed via throttle control or release the the speed handle to control the speed. In three weeks of trying to get use to it, I never got comfortable with the design. After 5 minutes with this model, I knew I made the right choice to switch. HD also had the Select Drive model on sale for $599, which made the switch even easier.
Now that I've tried both, I will say I like how the hydrostatic transmission requires no push to get it moving. The Select Drive does require a push at times, especially going up hills. But overall, the Select Drive works better for me and what I'm use too after having the Toro Personal Pace for so many years. I like the handles on the Personal Pace best of all of these mowers. But Honda's mowers are much better on hills, mulching, quality of cut and ease in adjusting the level. This Select Drive and the Hydrostatic Cruise models are both great mowers. Go with what works best for you.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ShuckyDucky New Honda mower
I recently purchased a new Honda HRX217VYA online and picked it up at the local store within a couple of hours. I was pleased to find the mower had been pulled and was at the service desk. I signed some paperwork and a nice gentleman employee loaded it my truck. I was very pleased with the experience.
Now, about the mower. Assembly was pretty quick, maybe 30 minutes. I can't say enough good things about the mower itself. I have thick Bermuda that requires a twice a week cutting in the heat of the summer. The 190cc engine never strains. I have finally gotten use to the Select Drive which allows me to mow at whatever pace I choose. I also like the clip director. I like to mulch, but set the lever to partially bag. No grass clumps are left behind. Cranks on the first pull, which makes it easy for my wife to use.
I have been a Honda small engine user, for personal use and in a former business. I wont buy any other brand of small engine. I purchased my first Honda lawnmower 20 years ago. It performed flawlessly for 20 years until the plastic deck cracked this year. Nothing wrong with the engine! I decided to get a new mower because I wanted to have the ability to vary my pace. Gave my old mower to a friend in need. You won't go wrong buying this mower!
