I do not like the variable speed drive. It is too hard to maintain a constant speed. I would upgrade to cruise control for my next lawnmower.

The Honda replaced my 13 year old Toro Recycler. The Honda is the best mower I owned. When mulching even thick grass, the engine never bogs down or stops. Leaves less clumps of mulched grass on the lawn the the Toro. The blade stop is an excellent feature. My only complaint is a narrow strip of grass the blade always inexplicably misses.

The blade stop is factory adjusted. Machine is incredible practically mows yard by itself. The power on propulsion is set on low and it climbs my hills with bag effortlessly! The nexlite makes the mower very light..AWESOME HONDA!!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JPE Blade Stop too sensitive
I purchased this mower to replace the Honda I had for 10 years. I specifically bought the one with a blade stop for safety reasons. The new handle design and the sensitivity of the brake stop make it very frustrating to mow. I have a hilly yard and if you barely release the brake stop handle it cuts off. Try to get it reengaged is challenging too, sometimes I have to get on a flat part of the yard to get it to work properly. It makes cutting the grass very frustrating. I thought I might be able to adjust the way I hold the handle and make it better but was unsuccessful, so I asked if there were any adjustments to make it less sensitive and was told that it wasn't adjustable. One other minor design flaw is the wheel adjustments. It's very difficult to tell the slot that you need to get all four wheels into. the numbers are difficult to see.
I enjoyed my previous Honda a lot and that was part of the reason I paid more for it rather than buying another brand. Maybe when I need to buy another one in 10+ years the design will be corrected.

Nice even cut ..Does not need to be stopped with the blade brake and grass clippings are cut very fine making the emptying of the bag not as frequent and fast.Very easy to start.

Originally I bought the Honda HRR 2169VKA $399 model and it didn't bag to my expectations so I returned it and went for the HRX2175VYA mower with Roto Stop and Select Drive for $699. I read all the reviews about the Roto Stop disengaging while mowing and before I even let that happen I stretched the blade engagement bar and put it back in the slot and it works flawlessly. This mower definitely bags far better than the cheaper model and the engine is noticeably more powerful as well. I chose this model because I bag my grass as well as others I cut and the blade stop feature is great. I also like having the speed lever for the engine (fast-slow-stop). I also like being able to partially bag and mulch the grass with this model as well. The select drive system works so much better than the smart drive on the lessor model, just set the dial to your pace and push the bar up and away you go with constant speed even on bumpy parts of the lawn unlike with the smart drive you have to rely on your thumbs and can be tricky on uneven terrain. I highly recommend this mower for those who are looking for a 20-25 year mower that are particular about their lawn.

Best mower I've owned. Very quiet for a lawn mower. I asked a guy I know, who works for a company who make green colored mowers, what the best push mower is on the market and he said Honda.

This is a good product. Home Depot needs to go over the equipment before it goes out. There have been many reviews killing the machine because of the roto lock. It is a setup issue that Home Depot should do before they let the machine out of the building.
