I am looking to purchase a new lawn mower and have been turned off by what my neighbor had to say about the newer Honda mowers. He was wondering why when made a pass with the mower and then tried to follow the wheel marks in the grass to make a second pass that he still has a little line of grass that the mower did not cover. Looks like they engineered the wheels to set wider than the cutting radius.

Answer:
Bruce, the twin-blade cutting diameter is exactly 21", while the outside edges of the wheels are 21.75" apart. Might need to increase the overlap (it can be necessary depending on turf/grass type, cutting height, turf conditions, etc.). Possibly a non-sharp blade? -Robert@Honda

Honda does not publish any specific numbers for the "life" of any product. However, new, original customers who purchase a Honda HRX mower get a limited lifetime warranty on the deck. It won't crack, rust, fade, break, etc. for as long as you own the mower. -Robert@Honda

Why do the blades stop when I am mowing and still have the lever engaged?

I have read and understand how to use the mower but I am having a difficult time mowing my lawn since the blades stop turning when they want. Once I release the lever and re-engage it they will start again. The service center I can take this to said to bring it in and that they should be able to look at it in 3 to 4 weeks. Not acceptable.

Sorry to read of the trouble, Bud. If your mower is less that 30 days old, you can return it for a replacement or refund. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Lawn Mower I do not like the variable speed drive. It is too hard to maintain a constant speed. I would upgrade to cruise control for my next lawnmower. June 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by New Honda mower I recently purchased a new Honda HRX217VYA online and picked it up at the local store within a couple of hours. I was pleased to find the mower had been pulled and was at the service desk. I signed some paperwork and a nice gentleman employee loaded it my truck. I was very pleased with the experience. Now, about the mower. Assembly was pretty quick, maybe 30 minutes. I can't say enough good things about the mower itself. I have thick Bermuda that requires a twice a week cutting in the heat of the summer. The 190cc engine never strains. I have finally gotten use to the Select Drive which allows me to mow at whatever pace I choose. I also like the clip director. I like to mulch, but set the lever to partially bag. No grass clumps are left behind. Cranks on the first pull, which makes it easy for my wife to use. I have been a Honda small engine user, for personal use and in a former business. I wont buy any other brand of small engine. I purchased my first Honda lawnmower 20 years ago. It performed flawlessly for 20 years until the plastic deck cracked this year. Nothing wrong with the engine! I decided to get a new mower because I wanted to have the ability to vary my pace. Gave my old mower to a friend in need. You won't go wrong buying this mower! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Like this Model Better Than the Hydrostatic Cruise Control I tried for weeks to get use to the Hydrostatic Cruise model. I really wanted to like that mower. But after having a Toro Personal Pace for 15 years, the switch was too difficult. I just couldn't get use to holding three handles. Pinched my finger on more than one occasion too. So I took Robert @ Honda advice and picked up this Select Drive model a couple days ago. I tried it out yesterday and like it much better. The Select Drive is more like the Personal Pace for ease of use. I like being able to keep both hands on the handle and control the speed with my thumbs based on the terrain I'm cutting. With the Hydrostatic Cruise model, I had to either remove one hand off the handle and adjust speed via throttle control or release the the speed handle to control the speed. In three weeks of trying to get use to it, I never got comfortable with the design. After 5 minutes with this model, I knew I made the right choice to switch. HD also had the Select Drive model on sale for $599, which made the switch even easier. Now that I've tried both, I will say I like how the hydrostatic transmission requires no push to get it moving. The Select Drive does require a push at times, especially going up hills. But overall, the Select Drive works better for me and what I'm use too after having the Toro Personal Pace for so many years. I like the handles on the Personal Pace best of all of these mowers. But Honda's mowers are much better on hills, mulching, quality of cut and ease in adjusting the level. This Select Drive and the Hydrostatic Cruise models are both great mowers. Go with what works best for you. August 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Lawn Mower This Honda mower is very easy to use and it starts every time. Very good product. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Get 240+ serial number The blade stop is factory adjusted. Machine is incredible practically mows yard by itself. The power on propulsion is set on low and it climbs my hills with bag effortlessly! The nexlite makes the mower very light..AWESOME HONDA!!! July 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best mower The Honda replaced my 13 year old Toro Recycler. The Honda is the best mower I owned. When mulching even thick grass, the engine never bogs down or stops. Leaves less clumps of mulched grass on the lawn the the Toro. The blade stop is an excellent feature. My only complaint is a narrow strip of grass the blade always inexplicably misses. June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Blade Stop too sensitive I purchased this mower to replace the Honda I had for 10 years. I specifically bought the one with a blade stop for safety reasons. The new handle design and the sensitivity of the brake stop make it very frustrating to mow. I have a hilly yard and if you barely release the brake stop handle it cuts off. Try to get it reengaged is challenging too, sometimes I have to get on a flat part of the yard to get it to work properly. It makes cutting the grass very frustrating. I thought I might be able to adjust the way I hold the handle and make it better but was unsuccessful, so I asked if there were any adjustments to make it less sensitive and was told that it wasn't adjustable. One other minor design flaw is the wheel adjustments. It's very difficult to tell the slot that you need to get all four wheels into. the numbers are difficult to see. I enjoyed my previous Honda a lot and that was part of the reason I paid more for it rather than buying another brand. Maybe when I need to buy another one in 10+ years the design will be corrected. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product Nice even cut ..Does not need to be stopped with the blade brake and grass clippings are cut very fine making the emptying of the bag not as frequent and fast.Very easy to start. June 15, 2016
