Customer Questions & Answers

Electric start/key/battery/gas...is gas ALWAYS required, or can this mower run on battery ONLY?

So, now I am confused, after reading the reviews. I bought this mower, added gas and oil, and used the electric start (key.) I did NOT pull the cord the first time I used it (which was yesterday) and it worked find. I am confused about the comments about "ready to start as soon as you take it out of the box." Does this mean that you don't have to ALWAYS add gas---that you have an option of operating the mower using JUST the battery (once charged?) Or is the battery related ONLY to the electric start (which it would seem to be to me...since you do not have to plug it in) and therefore the lawnmower ALWAYS requires gas? That's how I understood it to work...
Asked by: Candy
You did the right thing. All gas power mowers need gas and oil to run. By the way keep the oil level where it is supposed to be. This is a good mower.

Please explain the "electric start" component to me, I need more info to make up my mind.

It looks as though there is a pull rope as well as the electric start. Can you choose which one to use?

Can you tell me how much assembly will be required if this mower is delivered to a home address?

Asked by: Anonymous
Everything is assembled except the bagger which is very easy to put on; you have to adjust the wheels and handle to meet your desired grass cut and your height; this is easy with the levers, no tools required

As a fit senior citizen who hasn't mowed her own lawn in 20 years, I must say I was impressed as the self-propelled mower sped me over uneven lawn and up and down hills. Great instructions and recommendations for maintenance. Steel construction surely will outlast all the less expensive plastic mowers out there. Salesperson "professor Tim" at Home Depot confirmed all my research before we decided to buy. No-brainer.

The electric key start works so well that was over my expectation. And, it recharge by mower engine itself. The con on this mower is that it came with smaller bag, so I had to stop more times than my previous one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Honda 21 in. Steel deck electric start gas self propelled mower with clip direct This mower is great. Started up the first time I used the electric start. Mulches the grass clipping really well. I've read that the self drive system kicks the front end up, I never experienced that issue. On level lawn the self propell, I had no problems. I would recommend this mower to anyone.

Maybe a scale or something to let you know the bag is full could be added as my wife doesn't, know when the bag is full. Other than that it is a great machine.

First, the good/great: (1) It does a fantastic job cutting grass. I use it on "mulch" setting and there is very little clumping, etc. My guess is that with a bag it will do an equally fine job. (2) It is easy, very easy to start. First time, every time. (3) Handles grades/inclines well, or as well as can be expected. (4) Easy to adjust wheel heights. Now, the not so good things, at least for me: (1) Changing the oil. There is no oil drain plug. The owner manual instructions (page 12) say to turn the mower on its side and drain the old oil out through the filler neck. Give me a break. Although it's a pain, I can handle this now, but I see this becoming more of an issue as I get older. (2) Self-propelled drive does not operate independently of the mower blade. In other words, when you stop the blade, you stop the engine and the drive. I would prefer being able to move the mower via self-propelled drive without having the blade engaged.

Assembly out of the box was easy. Just for curiosity, I tried to start it with the key for the first time, and it started right off. I have absolutely no complaints. I especially enjoy being able to bag the clippings. I can't wait to use it again.
