My current Toro mulches great when the grass is not too high. I hate bagging the clippings because I then have to put the clippings in plastic bags and dispose.

Yes - no clipping lines. In fact the only visible lines are where the tires travelled and that only lasts for a few minutes while the grass recovers. I think the double blade design has a lot to do with this.

Yes buy the Honda. I live on the lake and the hill in the back of my house has tall grass. The Honda cuts it with ease. I had Toro mowers all my life and just got rid of one that was only 1.5 years old. Despite being more expensive the Honda cuts even damp grass without clogging the bag. An amazing mower.

The mower comes 'pre-assembled'; all you need to do is add is the oil (which is supplied); you will have to slip the bag cover over the bag frame, but that is pretty straightforward. Also, to connect the clipping bag to the mower is super easy.

Yes, the handles are adjustable for height (I'm 6' and have no issues with the highest setting). To turn, simply place a little pressure on the handles and 'swivel' to the new direction.

The handle is very comfortable. I do not have large hands, but the handle is very easy to grasp and takes very little force to hold. As well, it is responsive and easily managed, such as when you want to back up and must release the drive wheel power but still maintain engine power. The handle, though, is all about the application of power to the drive wheels, and the dial on the handle is used for the purpose of determining how much power you want to apply. It's a very powerful engine, so I don't even use half of what it can provide on flat ground. If I'm going up hill, I turn it up, but that's about the only time. It is a very easy system to manage, since very little hand pressure is needed for any aspect. As for turning, I do not find it different, easier or harder, than any other walk behind mower. I think if you have the drive power turned up very high, it could be a problem on flat ground, since you would not be able to keep up with it that easily. Once or twice around the property and you're an expert. Read Less

After 10 mowings of about an hour in time each, I turned my new mower on its side as outlined in the owners manual. Basically opposite the side on which the gas tank is placed. I found that with the Nexite deck material, very little grass was sticking to the deck surface. This is most likely because I waxed the entire mower, including the under side of the deck before using it the first time. I have always done this with new mowers and found through the years that the decks stay clean longer and with less grass sticking to the underside of the deck. I don't see any problem in thoroughly cleaning the deck with a hose. I am confident that the engineers took that into consideration when the designed the unit. I would start the mower after washing it so that the unit would be dry when I placed it in storage, especially at the end of the mowing season. Once you have it shiny clean, spend a few minutes waxing the unit a good coat of automobile wax will keep your mower looking and working better. Plus, it will lessen the frequency between your need for future cleanings. I hope that this is helpful! Read Less

Tipping the mower over on its side will offer far, far better cleaning than just hooking up a hose. You'll be able to see exactly where clipping, dirt, mud, etc. are and rinse them away easily. You should do this each time you mow to avoid a build-up of material under the deck. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Average Features and terrible support from Honda!! I bought this mower last May from Home Depot. I initially ran the mower for 5 mowings and then changed the oil and plug. I then ran it for the rest of the season with no issues whatsoever. I changed the oil and plug again last fall and drained the gas from the carburetor. Fast forward to a month ago. The mower being less than a year and a half old starts to run extremely rough. I shut the mower off and bring it to my garage. I start looking over things and cannot find anything wrong - good gas flow, spark plug is fine and the choke seemed to be working. I also checked the oil. By the markings on the dipstick, it was full. I decided to bring it in to my service center and have them fix it. According to Honda, I ran the engine without enough oil in it and that caused something inside the motor to seize up and stop working. Honda says that is not covered under warranty. So I now own a boat anchor... So apparently $600 and what one would think is a good brand name doesn't get you anything! I will no longer be purchasing anything with the Honda name on it. Absolutely ridiculous when you follow their rules to a "T" and then they don't honor their warranty! STAY AWAY FROM HONDA!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from disintegrating tires and Honda doesn't care a warning about the back wheels. I used the mower for just over one year when the rubber disintegrated. The mower was under the extended Home Depot warranty but had to be covered by Honda since it was in the first two years of use. Honda claims this is normal wear and tear and NOT covered. Incidentally, the Home Depot warranty service wanted me to transport the mower to a repair shop one hour away in the middle of a small town and I was not allowed to use the Home Depot 2 miles away. I guess you should ignore the sign that they repair mowers there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite New Power Tool I upgraded from an older Honda and wow, what a difference. My old Honda was a Craigslist find when I first bought my house and was still running great, but wanted something a little more visually appealing. Was considering the steel deck model, but spent the extra $200 to get the plastic deck and bigger motor. I use this same mower on a side job, so I know that this is a top notch machine. Can't wait for my grass to start growing again! As a tip to others, give your mower plastics a coat of your favorite car wax before use. It will keep your mower looking new and the dirt and dust will not stick as easily for easy cleaning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive, But Good Value I purchased after extensive online product research - mainly for Honda Quality and I was not disappointed. Followed the simple un-crating instructions, added oil and fuel and started about 2/3 on the first pull - excellent. With regard to mowing - this was the first cut of the season and, unfortunately, the home's previous owner did not maintain their lawn in the fall (I purchased my home in late-November 2015) - below are my observations: CUT: Excellent, the mower powered through even the really high stuff (over 6 inches) DRIVE WHEELS: Very good; I live on hilly terrain and the drive-assist and larger wheels made this a lot easier; also notable is the auto-clutch feature making maneuvering this beast not too much work HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT: Excellent - lawns looks even and plush (make sure you do this BEFORE using your new mower as the front and back wheels are set differently in order to get it in the box properly!) BAGGING/MULCHING: Excellent; I set mine for a 60 bag/40 mulch for the first cut and somehow the mower worked. What was even more impressive was that there were no visible 'clip lines' trailing the mower UNIT WEIGHT: This is a heavy unit; this is OK for me (6'/200+ pounds) but I doubt a 125 pound person would find this unit easy to use on anything but a flat lawn. As mentioned earlier, the drive-assist does help on hills and rolling terrain but it still requires a lot of human power to get it up those steeper slopes SPEED CONTROL: Excellent/really cool; you just walk and dial in your pace and it just works perfectly, slows down a little on hills, but just about close to perfect FIT & FINSH: Excellent and another reason I bought Honda VALUE: Tough call on this because it is expensive; I factored in the standard 5-year warranty (Honda added an extra year if you purchased in March!) so you have to consider that in the cost. As well, their engines are well-known to just work and they are very efficient so we'll see how I feel about this mower in a few years LOUDNESS: Relatively mild, not too loud. It isn't the quietest mower available but it is very quiet in comparison to my neighbors lawn mowers. I measured about 82 db - just loud enough to warrant ear plugs as a precaution Overall, I would rate this as a 'Best Buy'; yes, it is expensive when comparing it to numerous other mowers available, but I've come to the conclusion that Honda has figured out how to make a reliable mower that produces expected results. Buy Once/Cry Once is my dad's favorite saying so with that wisdom, I'll recommend this product. G.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No regrets, love this Honda self propelled mower Purchased from Home Depot last spring and cannot believe we waited this long to finally get a Honda mower. Easy to start, use and maintain. We have very thick Zoysia grass and this strong motor cuts right through that and pulls well on those hilly areas. If you are handy, this unit is a breeze to work on. We use ethanol free fuel and Mobil-1 Oil in the motor after the break in. This unit is also outstanding for mulching up those Fall leaves as well. Have owned several brands of mowers over the years, but this Honda beats them all. Does everything as advertised.. A very well engineered and quality unit, worth every penny spent. If you have to be out there working anyway, it might as well be a little fun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lawn looks like a carpet! I had a 20" push Lawn Boy for awhile to just knock down a patchy lawn. Years later I put in sod, became a yard nut, and began obsessing over having the best lawn on the block. That Lawn Boy just wasn't up to the task of cutting thick, moist turf, and eventually I got this machine. I wanted a machine that didn't leave lines, clumps, stragglers, and left an even cut in just one pass, and that's exactly what I got! This thing mulches the grass into tiny bits that just disappear into nutrients for the lawn. If you're serious about mowing your lawn, then this is the machine! It's literally the Cadillac of lawnmowers, the 190cc engine is awesome, and will leave your lawn with a professional appearance. Buy with confidence.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great mower-does great job, but... This replaced another Honda mower--11 yrs old--that needed some parts. I decided to buy a new one for the new lawn only area. I'll fix the old one and use it for old lawn and pasture-like areas. The one thing I truly DO NOT LIKE about the new mower is that the blade is always on if the mower is running. With the other mower, I engage the blade when I want to. This lets me use the drive system to move the mower from area to area. The new one, sadly, doesn't have this feature. I knew this when I bought it..it is just annoying more than anything else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Quality, Performance and Value... This is an outstanding mower - ready to go right out of the box. Worth reviewing the directions to understand how the speed control works. The rock-steady engine offers ample power to get through thicker vegetation. The bagging system works well - the sliding mechanism that affords the ability to bag, mulch, or anywhere in-between lets you tailor where you want your clippings to go. I was skeptical about the rear-wheel drive, especially in turns, but the mower is quite nimble after just a little practice.
