Customer Questions & Answers

25 cc vs 35 cc

I'm looking for a Honda 4-cycle trimmer. I cannot decide between the 25 cc and 35 cc model. The price difference isn't much to influence my decision. I like that the 25 cc model is lighter, but I'm 29 years old and can handle the extra weight of the 35 cc model if it's worth it for performance. Any thoughts / recommendations? This would be for home use only on 1/2 acre.

Think about this. If you are already thinking of buying a Honda trimmer it's because your'e not willing to buy cheap stuff. Why would you not spend $30 extra dollars for better performance? Just saying. I'm buying mine today.

How hard is it to start? How many pulls

Asked by: Anonymous
Just like this one, starts on the second pull. First one wouldn't get up the revs and would stall out. Home Depot took it back. (Only used it about 2 hours before it started to run bad. Next day it wouldn't start at all) The second one is a dream. Fires up on the second pull, cold, and on the first pull after it's been running.

How do get the trimmer head apart to find the trimmer string that slipped in the hole

Just got this just used it, then the string went in past the hole. I have read the directions and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it apart. Any leads on how to do this would be a great help.

push the center of the head in, and rotate it about 5 degrees. It will unlock and slide out.

It starts extremely easy and has a ton of mid range power. It is on the heavy side, but my jobs get done much faster since there is much better control of the string speed. So far, there are no cons. My father and a buddy both used it for a few minutes and plan to replace their machines with the Honda.

It starts so much easier than my other brand 30cc 4 stroke it replaced ever did. I'm still getting used to the fact I no longer have to yank the cord wildly multiple times to get it to start. Just a steady pull and it gets going. My old machine never wanted to restart after it had been running a while but this Honda seems to start as easily from hot as it does cold. Doesn't stall like other brands either. Will idle till I shut it off. I've read a few reviews claiming this machine is under powered but have to say that is not the case. The line that comes with this unit seems kinda flimsy and is too lightweight for tougher jobs. Ineffective line, yes...under powered unit, not at all. You will need to switch to a larger/better quality line to see what this thing is capable of. I'm using a quality .105 line and tackling everything from dense orchard grass, briers, tall johnson grass, etc....anything that gets in it's way gets obliterated! Search for .105 titanium force if you're interested in what kind of line I've had success with. The bump head has been working great with the upgraded line and I couldn't be happier!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brush hog! I bought this and the kit to attach a brush blade to clear some trails at my 100 acre ranch. Keep in mind that my ranch is a rugged, rocky wasteland. With the saw blade attached, this thing tore through cedar trees a couple inches thick, cacti, yucca plants, blackbrush, and other brush like it didn't even exist. With the very rocky terrain here in west Texas, I inevitably hit rocks fairly often and never got any kickback. Ran it for three hours straight on full throttle, which went through 2 1/2 tanks of gas. It started on the second pull out of the box. I am seriously impressed. If you're just going to whack weeds, maybe a cheaper, less powerful product would suffice. But if you're looking to do some serious brush clearing, with a blade this thing becomes a monster and tore everything in my path, rarely bogging down, and I highly recommend it. I wish I'd got one when I first bought my ranch!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product. You get what you pay for. Pros: no mixing of oil and gas, substantially quieter than 2 stroke trimmers, several official Honda add-ons that increase utility (various blades, etc.), high quality, easy to maintain Cons: usually takes 3-4 pulls to start, full gas tank only lasts me 60-90 minutes (I may be too heavy on the throttle though, I like how it sounds), I do not like the standard semi-magic bump feed head that comes with the trimmer (I prefer the 3-spike blade). Overall this is a very nice product. Well worth the price. Honda still makes excellent power equipment and engines.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Real Workhorse I recently purchased a SECOND Honda 35 cc Straight Shaft Gas Trimmer to help with my expanded work load. My FIRST Honda 35 cc Straight Shaft Gas Trimmer is still going strong. It has been used for 8 years (as much as 8-hours a day in spring and summer) under commercial conditions. I outfitted the trimmer with an Oregon 55-130 fixed-line head and use .155 line for cutting tall grass and brush. The only repairs have been to replace worn-out start cords and fixed-line heads; I did the work myself. Not having to carry mixed gas is great. My business depends on this trimmer; it has always been a real workhorse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT Trimmer!! This trimmer is absolutely outstanding. I've owned several different brands ryobi, Troybuilt, homelite and others. They all only seem to last about a year, and two cycle trimmers don't waste your money. Go with the 4 cycle Honda you won't be disappointed. I live on 5 acres and have no shortage of trimming and this Honda trimmer more than gets the job done. If your going to get a trimmer you won't regret buying this one.

Honda usually makes very good products. The problem with this one is that the string head is almost impossible to open for line replacement. Same problem as our previous Honda. Had to buy an aftermarket head to make it usable. looks like this one will be the same way. Come on Honda! you're better than this.
