I need to create a flower bed where there was established grass. Will the Honda FG110 do this job?

Answer:
It depends on how established the grass is -- for thick established grass, the FG 110 could take a lot of time and effort since it is not very wide nor deep. To start the project I would rent a full size tiller and do it thoroughly once.
Then the FG 110 can do the rest as you should plan on tilling 3 times to kill the grass and weeds.

Answer:
Yes mine tilled up a grassy area pretty well. You may have to go over it a few times, but it gets the job done.

Hi Tony:
This can be hard to say for sure. The FG110 is a tough little machine, and the hybrid tines are surely up for the job. Actual soil conditions and the size of the plot might mean it could take some time to get it in proper shape for the flower project.

Home Depot is usually very good about returns, so if you buy an FG110, you can probably return it necessary. Another option might be to consider renting one from a Home Depot Rental Center. They also rent larger Honda tillers if you have a sizable plot to work. Hope this helps, -Robert@Honda Read Less

The blades are at angles so they can catch the roots.

Answer:
The angle shape of the edger blades are intentional; extensive testing by Honda's engineering team has determined the shape will provide the optimum edging performance in most turf conditions. Honda spent a LOT of time fine-tuning the shape, and it will give great results for most customers. -Robert@Honda

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 17 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Kinda so-so Don't expect this to cut a really clean line. Acceptable, unless you are expecting perfection. June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works Good for Me It worked good for me. Put the inside of the blade on the concrete and it just takes off.. Keep the outside, curved part of blade away from concrete and it does the job quickly. May 17, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Doesn't work as well as expected Putting the attachment on my rototiller was easy, using it anther story. The blade constently jumped around putting big gashes in my grass. I now have ruts along my sidewalk. This was not easy to use and the edging looks terrible. May 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worthwhile Accessory Adding the Border/Edger accessory to the Honda FG110 Tiller was a great opportunity! The first time through was rough, with jumping and cement strikes. Once your edging is acclimated this is a quick trip around. Also found that not going full-throttle helped quite a bit. If you love your tiller as I do, you should add this to it for more use through the year. June 29, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good attachment It takes a little getting used to but does the job. It is a good accessory for the honda tiller. June 9, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Border/Edger Kit I bought the Tiller for a new garden. It worked so well that I thought that the edger would be great to have. It works great. May 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it! Ok, I am ROUGH on yard stuff, and my husband swears I need commercial grade products. Anyway, I previously had an attachment that went on my gas trimmer for edging and I managed to snap the drive cable inside, oops. We actually have very hard soil so this edger attachment is awesome. It did take a bit of getting used to, but I found it works best if you pull backwards in about 3 foot sections and then go forward to clear it out. I am shorter so I can see the path when I pull it. Also, once you use it for a few minutes, you can hear the tines of the edger against the walkway making a faint scrape and you know your at the right spot. This does not make a clean line on the grass when your done, but I just raked up all the cuttings and then got out the weed whacker and edged a nice line before blowing the sidewalk. June 17, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Expecting a Better Product Hard to control and to see what you're doing. Even though the price is cheap I would recommend putting money towards an actual edger. The tiller itself is great but the edger kit isn't very good. I had my dad, brother and boyfriend try it and none of them were able to use it successfully. Because of the Honda brand I was expecting it to work just fine. I wouldn't recommend it. June 2, 2014
