Directions say to release yellow blade button after engaged button will not release stays down will this harm mower

Asked by: Anonymous
The button is meant to be pushed down in order to "engage," then it stays down. If it were to pop up, the blades would disengage. "Releasing" the button simply means taking your finger off of it. If it pops up, you have to do it all over again, this time slower. It disengages on its own regularly - you have to listen for it, since it will not CUT unless the button stays down.

Can the self propelled feature be used with the blade stopped for moving the mower from back yard to front yard through an alley?

Asked by: Splash1
Yes, the blade control is separate from the self propelled lever.

Is the height adjustment done with one lever or do you have to adjust each ilndividual wheel?

Asked by: Anonymous
Each wheel. Have a small sledge hammer nearby, you will need it. Poor adjustment system on the rear wheels.

Does the bag come as a standard item?

Asked by: Anonymous
YES IT DOES COME WITH AN INFERIOR BAG & FRAME. IT LETS A VARYING AMOUNT OF DUST THROUGH THE FABRIC, DEPENDING ON HOW DRY AND DUSTY THE TURFS SOIL IS. IF IT IS DRY ENOUGH YOU CAN BE LEFT COUGHING & CHOKING FROM WITHIN THE CLOUD OF DUST. BUT THERE IS A SOLUTION. (BE PREPARED TO SPEND ~$ 85.00 AT AMAZON). THE SOLUTION IS FOR AN IMPROVED "LOW DUST GRASS BAG KIT". THE KIT COMES WITH THE IMPROVED BAG AND ALSO AN IMPROVED SOLID FRAME WITH A BETTER HANDLE ON THE FRAME. THE HANDLE MAKES EMPTYING THE BAG MUCH EASIER. IT ALSO HAS A SOLID PLASTIC BOTTOM ON THE BAG, MAKING EMPTYING SIMPLER, GRASS JUST SLIDES OUT, NO MORE SHAKING AND SPILLING. IT SOLVES THE DUST PROBLEM NICELY AND MAKES EMPTYING EASIER. . SEARCH AMAZON FOR "HONDA 04813-VH7-K50 KIT". WHY IT IS NOT INCLUDED WITH THIS $730.00 MOWER I DONT UNDERSTAND. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE INCLUDED BAG & THE "LOW DUST GRASS BAG KIT" CAN'T BE THAT MANY $ $ $. THE FACT THAT THEY OFFER THIS UPGRADED ACCESSORY, INDICATES TO ME THEY KNOW THEY HAVE A PROBLEM. I'M HAPPY WITH THE SOLUTION, BUT STILL THINK IT SHOULD NOT BE AN UPGRADE.

GCV190 21 in. Variable Speed Walk Behind Gas Self Propelled Mower is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 763.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Tall Persons Mower ever!!!! I bought this mower about two years ago. I had a good quality mower before it, but this mower cuts incredible well. I was able to cut fescue that was much taller than it should have been (as in would stall my old mower) and it never bogged or clumped. There is usually no evidence of clippings and there's never any stragglers. I ended up moving to a house with a much larger yard with Bermuda built on a cow pasture. With all our rain it was growing 4+ inches per week and I ended buying a rider because it was taking me three hours. I still use this to cut areas my big mower won't get, but if this was faster it'd be my first choice. At 6'5" it's the only mower adjustable to my height. If it lasts forever I'll never buy another push mower again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Mower I bought this to replace the Honda mower I've had for 10 years which the deck was failing. The new mower has an Composit deck which is guaranteed for life, which is awesome. The hydrostatic transmission is very nice. I am throughly pleased with this mower and would recommend to everyone

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The features and ease of use make it worth the price Previous mower brands owned were Craftsman and Toro (LOL) plus a Honda HRR VYA that was showing some rust on the underside of the steel deck after only two years even though stored indoors. My fault for not rinsing off grass clippings after mowing every time so the damp grass must have hastened the oxidation. So, I first went for the HRX VYA Nexite deck bigger engine model with the rabbit ears for drive control. Out of the box it had a wicked misfire at any rpm under no load. Then when I tried to climb a ramped part of the lawn to a plateau area, the drive stalled halfway up the ramp with engine at full power. I had to increase drive speed to make it up the hill but then it was too fast for comfort on the flats. I went back to HD for advice and they said to return it for another but they were sold out of that model. After looking at their stock, decided on the HRX HYA so did the swap and paid the extra $30 for the Hydrostatic Cruise Control. Oh my, what a mower. The HCC is an impressive innovation for a residential mower. Set the speed and it holds it everywhere. Speed can also be adjust up or down on the fly. It's heavier than the the former HRR but feels easier to maneuver with the larger wheels. Some not so obvious observations are that the larger grass bag saves time since I can mow the entire lawn without stopping to empty, the blade control bail is designed to be held engaged with your left hand and the drive bail can be engaged partially or fully with your right hand and then both held engaged with either hand alone. Also, the larger HRX engine is much easier to start than the smaller HRR engine even though both have the same compression ratio and were using the same fuel and the HRR just had a full tune-up. $729 is steep but was able to bring it down with a couple of incentives in place. First, I bought 5/30 so got the free extra year warranty. Then I received the generous 10% military discount. I had just received a new Chase Unlimited credit card that gives $150 cash for purchases over $500 within the first three months...done. I posted the old HRR mower on Craigslist for $400 and had multiple inquiries within two hours and it sold after minimal haggling for $375. I never even got around to taking a picture of the old mower to post with the ad so I either got lucky or there's that much demand for used Honda mowers. Altogether, the upgrade net cost was $131, not bad at all for what will probably be the last walk-behind mower I'll ever buy. I'll be taking better care of this one and already applied a vinyl conditioner to the deck that helps grass clippings fall off. Very satisfied with the purchase so far although it's only been a couple of days. If you're thinking of a Honda mower do it today, the last day to get the free extended warranty on most of their self-propelled models, and buy on a credit card with 60 day price protection in case they go on sale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Best mower I've ever used. The NeXite deck is super durable and light. The hydrostatic variable speed control works amazing. Not having to stop and start my mower every time I had to bag was great and time saving too, thanks to the blade clutch. Bought this because my grandma's 20 year old mower has the hydrostatic VSC and is still in tip top shape, plus with a limited lifetime warranty on the deck, you'll be cutting grass for 20+ years with this baby.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New mower after 24 years I purchased this mower to replace a honda mower purchased in 1992. The new model is impressive. Noticeably lighter, more powerful engine, larger cutting height range, faster hydrostic top speed, and on the fly mulching adjustment and with the larger wheels, very easy to Maneuver. Mine started on the second pull and ran without issue right out of the box. The plastic deck is very easy to clean and appears very strong. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The lawn mower is excellent. It replaced the similar model I had for 18 years. I expect this on... The lawn mower is excellent. It replaced the similar model I had for 18 years. I expect this one to provide the same length of service. It starts very easily and I just love using it. Minimal assembly. Instructions were easy to follow. I especially like the blade brake feature so the bag can be emptied without having to restart the engine each time. It definitely exceeds my expectations. Can not go wrong purchasing this mower.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this mower. Had an earlier version of this mower for years, and when it was time to replace it, this was an easy decision. One-pull starting and easy to use. Perfect for a 1/2 acre lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Lawn More that only Honda could Make ! Been waiting last five years to retire my Snapper lawn mower which I had for 19 years and gave to my son. Honda has certainly designed themselves to the top of the market for push lawn mowers through excellent manufacturing and quality materials over the years as they have done with so many types of outdoor equipment. The model I've purchased is one that couldn't offer more for mowing a lawn. It cuts various types of grasses beautifully and is very easy to handle along wit superb safety features. I have a large lawn tractor for my good size lawn and areas of other grasses but it is great exercise to go out and mow with the Honda and appreciate this fine mower.
