Answer:
This rack is not recommended for heavy clothing like winter coats. I suggest only hanging light weight clothing so it does not break apart.

I know the height is adjustable, but I'm referring to the length of the pole that the clothes hang on.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 59 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Issues with cart First the box this came in from UPS was ripped up and torn. Then when I went to put it together one of the poles was crushed and bent and I had to hammer it into shape in order to get it inside the other pole to snap in place. Something I shouldn't have had to do but I needed it for an event this weekend. Over all the bottom part is pretty solid but anything above click in poles (the adjustable ones) seems a bit flimsy and they rattle so I am disappointed in that. It does not seem like it would hold a good amount of weight. It does roll easily but there are no locks on the wheels to keep it in shape. Overall putting it together was easy except for the pole issue. One thing...when putting in the 2 end caps for the adjustable top poles do that very delicately or they can snap and break. I was able to do it without breaking but you do need a lot of force to get them in and if not done properly they will snap. A bit disappointed in the quality of this and how it was delivered to me. Luckily it had all the parts with all the holes in the box. Having the shelf on the bottom is a nice feature. Had I known the quality I probably would have bought something much stronger. It seems sturdy enough that it won't fall apart but might bend or tip if too much weight is put on it. It will serve my purpose though. One more thing is that it does have 3 different heights you can adjust it too so maybe if not so high it's sturdier but if you have long gowns or long coats you need it on the highest setting. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great purchase! Easy to assemble (my 10yr old did it!). Without any clothes on it, I was a bit concerned because the crossbars are the top had a little bit of give. However, once I put 50+lb of clothes on it, there was no issue whatsoever! Was specifically looking for a fully metal (no plastic connectors) and am so glad I found this. Buying another one since the first is so solid and sturdy! June 8, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Just ok but not for heavy I thought this rack would be good but not quite...... I put it together and was real easy. I put my jackets on it and then had to roll it to where it would stay. Not a great idea!!! As I moved the cart it torqued really bad. There is no real support to stop that from happening and I can see this cart breaking very easily. I will have to fashion some sort of cross support in order for the cart to be useful and have the ability to move May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love It This rack is perfect for my new laundry room providing a rack to hang clothing fresh from the dryer and a shelf on the bottom to put my extra large wicker laundry basket. Perfect addition to make laundry easier plus the cart rolls so you can go room to room to gather laundry or put the fresh laundry away. May 17, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Best of the bunch I had to take another manufacturers similar product back. The pre-formed steel pieces were just out of whack. This one fit perfectly, needed minimal tools (provided) The written instructions are not very clear but just pull up the video on line and it really is easy to follow.. I did it alone in about 15 minutes - would have taken less time but I misunderstood and did not install sides with holes on the outside on one side, had to unscrew and turn it around. However the error was easy to correct. I gave it one less star because a shelf on the TOP would be a great addition. The extenders on each side are handy, the bottom shelf just sets in on top of the bottom support. EASY . I moved into a house with only two closets, each only three feet. These are solving my issues. I just ordered two more. April 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Coat Rack Easy to assemble. Very sturdy. Like the wheels on the bottom. easy to maneuver. Very happy with it. April 19, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Ok for the price It's nice to have something to hang clothes on when you have nothing. But it's a tab flimsy on the 2 legs, for the price, this will do fine. April 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Stronger and easier to put together than described. This is my second garment rack from Home Depot. I was looking for something easy to move around and sturdy. This rack has large wheels that allow you to move from carpet to tile and over uneven floor space. Even when full of heavy items, you can grab it by one of the poles and drag it around without it swaying or tipping. Each of the ends expands to nearly 13" which is the perfect size to add a garment bag (HomeDepot has bags for under $20), I'm not sure what the recommended weight load is but I have both of mine holding well over 50lbs of clothing. I put it together myself in less than 20 minutes and I'm a 60 year old grandma. (tools come with it to fasten the screws) June 26, 2013
