Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by So So 3, cool and dehumidifier. Louder than I expected on high settings but probably normal for high BTU air conditioners. The remote control is nice. The pan to drain the water is not included but that could be improvised easily. Doesn't cool our space as well as I had expected which was the biggest let down...however, incoming light, insolation and a few other factors may influence that aspect and may be an individual case with us. I suggest going to a store to look at your options. June 29, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do NOT buy this product...RUN AWAY! Problem #1: it's HUGE.I mean armchair replacement huge. I've seen swamp coolers smaller than this thing. and there is no short tubing allowing you to get it close to the window and the "keep the hose unkinked" instructions put the stupid thing 3 feet in from the window in the middle of the room. Problem #2: Its' LOUD not just loud, or's LOUD!!! I measured it at 90 db on an app on my phone. Yes...that's the equivalent of standing next to the engine on an idling city bus...and that's pretty much what it sounded like. Problem #3: Ungodly Noise. The thing was making this horrible sound out of the fan like a broken jet engine catching on something on each rotation. Problem #4: Set off my CO detector. So, I had already resolved that I was going to return this thing but decided to let it run to cool the air a LITTLE. It was spitting out cold air but not enough for the amount of noise it was making trying to do so. In any event after about 4 hours my CO detectors went off. I shut it down and unplugged it and had to beat the detector with a stick to shut up. I then went online and found that if there isn't enough "fresh" air coming "in" that the unit can suck the fresh air out of the house and that can set off a CO detector. Advice? Consult my HVAC professional. I'm getting a nice (cheaper) window unit and I'm measuring the decibels before I do. 90 decibels isn't just damages your hearing for cripe's sake. Run Away as fast as you can from this air conditioner. July 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great AC portable unit for one room. Does a fantastic job cooling my FL room. A little tricky to install if you have sliding windows but if you install vent hose vertically in window instead of horizontally you just have a small area to cover with plywood or whatever to keep heat out where the hose plate does not cover. Of course you have to use something to keep the window from sliding but just use good old American ingenuity. Great for cooling one room fast. July 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works for me! I live in a ranch, and bought two of these units. At this time, we are having a heat wave! "Mid 90s high humidity'" With the two units I also added two fans to direct air flow. One unit using top drain is routed to my set tub in the basement. The other using top drain goes to a bucket, I can't believe how much water is collected. At mid 90 degrees the house is in the mid to upper 70' and humidity is very low. The top drain works great on both A/C or dehumidify. Not sure what the bottom drain does, put a shallow pan under it and very little water came out. I'm happy with the units! July 29, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by portable AC We tried this AC and found it did nit work as well as expected. We purchased another AC from a local company August 25, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very Happy With This Purchase This unit was purchased for a 600 square foot space in a home in the Northwest. It's not supposed to get hot up here but the last 2 years have brought record high temps. (high 90's - low 100's) Not many homes up here have central a/c. It cools way down at night so we do not have to run it to sleep. Open windows and fresh air keeps it cool at night. The space it cools includes a family room, dining area and kitchen. You must be realistic. This great looking unit is not going to cool a 600 square foot room into the 60's or even low 70's when it's 100 degrees outside. It will keep that big room between 75-77 degrees when it's that hot outside however. We find that perfectly fine. Also, if you start it running AFTER the room is already hot (90's or higher) it will struggle. Set the thermostat in the low to mid 70's before it gets hot and you will stay comfortable all day. I subtracted a star because you can not get an extended window kit. I installed this in a 58 inch high vertically operated window and had to make my own window extension. What a pain! August 19, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Fails to deliver ice-cold, powerful cooling The black and silver design is stunning. The electronic feather touch panel that illuminates and then fades to black is genius. The drainage hole halfway up rear of unit is convenient for attaching hose and draining water into a bucket for humid environment (filled 2 gallon Home Depot paint bucket in 4.5 hours - Los Angeles, CA). Fan on highest setting is WEAK (fails to really push out air into the room to circulate air). AC cooling is EXTREMELY WEAK. Moderate cool air blows from unit, not a bone chilling cold air. This unit fails to cool a small living room space in an apartment building with the doors closed off, hose properly installed, windows and blinds closed. I have had a 10,000 btu, a 12,000 btu and a 13,000 btu unit cool stronger than this. Unfortunately they all die after 1-2 years. Perhaps my unit was a dud. Maybe it lacked coolant? All I know is it was delivered to Home Depot new and I had to lug this thing back to Home Depot and they took it back after I told them it failed to cool my living room below 80-84F degrees when the temp outside was 90-95F. I cannot function normally unless the room is 68-72, like an office building or mall or store. This unit fails to cool. Period. I do not recommend. PS Have unit shipped to store. UPS and FEDEX handle units with kid gloves when delivering to stores, but when delivering to residences they come smashed up with broken engines. Just my experience over and over again.
